  • Publication number: 20100241659
Abstract: Particular embodiments generally relate to using a single library that allows users to view media content located on a plurality of devices. In one embodiment, an interface allows a user to view content stored on multiple devices. Information may be received for a plurality of content stored on a plurality of devices. The information may be metadata that is stored in a library. The information may be used to display an interface that shows various content. The information displayed in the interface is agnostic of where the content may be stored on devices. For example, a unified interface is provided that allows users to view content in a manner that does not take the location of the content into account. In one example, a user may view all pictures that are found on the plurality of devices in a single list.

  • Patent number: 7756547
Abstract: A communication interface device includes a wireless Internet packet (IP) transceiver and a PCMCIA card electrically connected to the transceiver. Also, a universal serial bus (USB) connector is plugged into a hub that holds the PCMCIA card, with a cord extending from the USB connector and terminating in another USB connector. Accordingly, the device can be engaged with the PCMCIA bay of a user terminal or, if a user terminal has no PCMCIA bay, with a USB receptacle of the user terminal, to establish wireless communication. To simplify set-up, a CD containing all operating system versions of PCMCIA and USB drivers is engaged with the user terminal. The terminal's operating system is then automatically determined, and only the drivers associated with that operating system are loaded onto the terminal.

  • Publication number: 20100125881
Abstract: Automatically conveying content acquisition opportunities to users following detection of proximity to interactive signage. This may entail detecting proximity of a portable device to an interactive sign. The interactive sign is associated with a content item, such as music or a video that may be playing on or with the interactive sign. The portable device is associated with a user and has a user identifier. A unique identifier is generated in association with the proximity detection, which correlates the user identifier and the content item. The unique identifier is transmitted to a content site, which has some form of identification of both the user identifier as well as the corresponding content item. The content site then conveys to a device separate from the portable device an opportunity for the user to acquire a digital representation of the content item.

  • Patent number: 6956833
Abstract: A method and system for remotely storing data on a server through a wireless connection instead of storing data locally in a consumer device, as well as devices for use with the method and system. More particularly, a video camera, still camera, laptop computer, or other consumer device which normally stores data in local memory such as film, disk, random access memory, memory sticks, or other forms of storage would transmit the data to a remote server through a wireless connection. The data would be saved on the remote server for subsequent retrieval through, for example, the Internet or a wireless connection to the server. In addition, data not originating from the user device could be downloaded to the consumer device. The data to be retrieved can be specified by the user, or sent to the user according to a user profile stored on the server.

  • Publication number: 20050123168
Abstract: A system and method for efficient recovery of watermarks from compressed video is disclosed, wherein, in one embodiment, cyclic watermark noise blocks are tiled and embedded in a plurality of frames of compressed video, quantized coefficients are computed for a group of compressed video frames on a pixel-by-pixel basis, the scaled coefficients for the group of compressed video frames are summed into an output transform frame, and the entire summed output transform frame is transformed to recover peak values for the group of compressed video frames to recover the watermark. Additionally, zero band normalization and edge filtering are also provided to increase the accuracy and efficiency of recovering watermarks from video frames.

  • Patent number: 6473138
Abstract: A television receiver monitor intended to be built into a wall and used in connection with an audio/video entertainment center can be adapted to provide various visual aspects corresponding to the control capabilities of the user. When only a bezel surrounding the screen is visible, all controls are made through a control center unit of the audio/video entertainment center, so that the user must have a high degree of knowledge about the overall system, whereas when the bezel and a control panel are visible, the user need not extensively involve himself with the audio/video entertainment center except to control the audio portion of the program. When confronted with an unsophisticated or underage user, a speaker grill is provided in addition to the bezel and control panel, so that no interaction with the audio/video entertainment center is required by the user in order to enjoy a video and audio program.

  • Patent number: 6425129
Abstract: Channel information is displayed for a user in improved fashion by adjusting the amount of information according to the rate with which the user previews channels. For example, at a first rate of preview, the channel number, channel logo, program name and video could be displayed for each previewed channel, while at a faster rate, the channel number and logo could be displayed, and at a still faster rate the channel number alone could be displayed for each previewed channel. The rate of preview can be dictated by remote control signals, such as those produced by a remote control jog dial. The user can rotate the jog dial to preview channels at various rates and receive corresponding amounts of information for each previewed channel dependent upon the rate that the channels are previewed.

  • Patent number: 6384869
Abstract: A method and structure is capable of scanning through available programs on a display screen and selectively displaying the most recently scanned programs in a spiral formation on the display screen. The spiral formation conveys visual information to the viewer about when the programs were scanned by the arrangement and sizing of a number of positions of the spiral formation. Provided with the visual information of the recently scanned programs in the spiral formation, the viewer can readily determine which programs were recently scanned and when they were scanned.

  • Patent number: 6281940
Abstract: Information corresponding to previewed channels is displayed using a sequential arrangement having a main channel location and several remaining channel locations. A currently previewed channel resides in the main channel location. The channels move along the sequential arrangement and into the main channel location for previewing. An arc shaped arrangement having the main channel location at an intermediate point allows channels to progress from one side of the arc, then into the main channel location for previewing, then to the other side of the arc. A jog dial can be rotated to cause the previewed channels to rotate along the arc. Thus, the user can cycle through available channels or a subset of channels by merely holding the jog dial in a given position.
