Patent number: 6202966Abstract: A multi-position bracket includes a cantilever body defining first and second sides, and including rear and upper orthogonal edges. The rear edge includes at least one hook shaped to removably engage slots of an upright. The multi-position bracket further includes a mounting plate interconnected with the cantilever body in a selected one of first and second offset positions and a center position relative to the cantilever body. The mounting plate defines a center portion and first and second opposite side portions. The center portion of the mounting plate includes a center connector interconnecting the mounting plate in the cantilever body with the mounting plate in the center position for supporting adjacent side edges of a pair of side-by-side hang-on furniture units.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1998Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Assignee: Steelcase Development Inc.Inventors: Douglas B. Patent number: 6202374Abstract: The floor system for a work environment providing for access to utilities to be associated with articles such as articles of furniture is disclosed. The floor system includes a plurality of floor tiles. At least one of the floor tiles provides an access pattern. A floor is formed by selective arrangement of the plurality of floor tiles with at least one access point for utilities provided by the access pattern of at least one of the plurality of floor tiles. At least one article of furniture is selectively positioned on the floor. At least one access point can be selectively located within the floor. The position of at least one article of furniture on the floor and location of the access point of the floor are at least partially coincident and access to utilities can be provided through the floor to the article of furniture regardless of the position of the article of furniture on the floor.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 1998Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Assignee: Steelcase Development Inc.Inventors: Robert V. Patent number: 6189270Abstract: A partition wall system provides for lay-in of cables. The system includes a plurality of interconnected panel sections and a plurality of covering skins. Each panel section has a base surface and a protrusion extending from the base surface. At least one of the covering skins is attached to each of the panel sections, forming a passage between the covering skin and the base surface of the panel section allowing the cables to travel between interconnected panel sections and through each panel section, in both horizontal and vertical directions. Interconnected panel sections may include first and second sheets of material, each sheet of material providing a base surface with a plurality of protrusions extending therefrom, wherein the first sheet of material is attached to the second sheet of material so that the base surface of the first sheet of material is substantially parallel to the base surface of the second sheet of material.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1999Date of Patent: February 20, 2001Assignee: Steelcase Development Inc.Inventors: Robert Eugene Jeffers, Karl Jahn Mead, Douglas Bruce MacDonald, Charles Anthony Seiber

Patent number: 6176550Abstract: An armrest construction for chairs includes an armrest support having a lower end constructed for attachment to a chair, an upper end, and a mounting block attached to the upper end. A pivot block is pivoted to the mounting block at a main pivot, the pivot block having an upwardly-extending follower. First and second gears are each pivoted to the pivot block, the gears having intermeshing teeth at an inner end such that rotation of the first gear causes the second gear to simultaneously rotate in an opposite direction, the first and second gears further having outer ends. A support plate having pivot/slide members engages the outer ends of the first and second gears, and further has a guide operably engaging the follower to guide lateral movement of the support plate along a predetermined path.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2000Date of Patent: January 23, 2001Assignee: Steelcase Development Inc.Inventors: Michel A.
