Abstract: A portable light includes a light head that is pivotable relative to a light body and that preferably has a detent provided by a cylindrical projection and a corresponding or complementary receptacle of the pivot joint. The light head may have a latch projection, wherein the light body has a latch ring that can engage the latch projection to retain the light head in a stowed position and that can be stowed.
Abstract: A portable light may comprise: a light body having an illumination, e.g., white, light source and a laser light source supported thereby, each source being selectively energizable for producing light; and a switch for selectively energizing the illumination light source and/or laser light source. The laser light source is configured to provide a plane of laser light, so as to create a line of laser light on objects illuminated by the plane of laser light. The laser light source may include a cylindrical lens to create the plane of laser light. The plane of laser light may be rotatable relative to the light body. A TIR optical element may also be disposed in front of the illumination light source for receiving the light produced thereby.

Abstract: A light comprises: a light body and a light source supported by the light body; and a tail cap assembly including one or more actuators configured for actuating one or more electrical switch contacts internal to the light body for energizing the light source. The tail cap assembly may include a housing shell defining one or more cantilevered supports extending from the housing shell with the one or more actuators at respective ends thereof. The tail cap assembly may further include a resilient material for sealing the housing shell while leaving the actuators flexibly cantilevered. Alternatively and/or additionally, the light may include a mode selecting face cap that is rotatable on the light body for selecting operating modes, including OFF, and or a laser light source having two adjusting screws at an acute angle to each other.
Abstract: A method for charging a battery may comprise: setting an initial low charge current level; repetitively interrupting charging in a periodic cycle, and: measuring an open circuit battery voltage when charging is interrupted, determining from the open circuit battery voltage a corresponding predetermined charging current; applying the predetermined charging current; and repeating the periodic cycle. A method may also comprise: setting an initial charge current level, measuring the supply voltage, and decreasing the charge current level if the measured supply voltage is less than a predetermined voltage.

Abstract: A lighting device includes: a housing configured to receive a light emitting circuit and a battery; a light emitting circuit including one or more light emitting diodes mounted to a circuit board; a translucent or transparent conformal lens formed to cover the one or more light emitting diodes; and an electrical switch for selectively energizing the light emitting diodes to produce light. The housing may be in a shape resembling a key. A method for making a lighting device includes: obtaining a circuit board having one or more light emitting devices; obtaining a housing configured to receive the circuit board; placing the circuit board in the housing; then dispensing a conformal coating material onto the circuit board; allowing the dispensed conformal coating material to spread and level; and curing the conformal coating material to form a cover on the circuit board.

Abstract: A portable light and charging device therefor. The portable light includes a light head that is pivotable relative to a light body and that has a projection, wherein the light body has a latch ring that can engage the projection to retain the light head in a stowed position and can be stowed. The charging device defines a receptacle for receiving the portable light and has a pair of latch arms that pivot to permit the portable light to be placed into and removed from the receptacle and that are biased to retain the portable light in the receptacle.
Abstract: A portable light includes a base having a deployable pole pivotably supported on the base, and a light source supported on the deployable pole. A latch is configured to retain the deployable pole in a deployed position and to release the deployable pole from the deployed position at which it is retained. The latch includes a latch plate that is biased to move toward the deployable pole to engage a base end thereof when the deployable pole is in the deployed position and that is movable to release the deployable pole.
