Abstract: Antimicrobial compositions and coating compositions including antimicrobial compositions including copper glass nanoparticles and an additive alkyldiol compound. Coating compositions including the antimicrobial composition exhibit enhanced antimicrobial efficacy and improved coatings performance characteristics including ability to appropriately shade for a base, starting masstone color, as compared to coatings compositions containing copper glass nanoparticles and no such alkyldiol additives.
Abstract: Polycyclocarbonate compounds and upgraded molecular weight polymers made from such compounds are provided. The polymers have particular utility in coating compositions, especially for use on food and beverage contact substrates that are formed into or will be formed into containers or container components.
Abstract: A method of forming a coating on a food or beverage container, which includes spraying a coating composition onto an interior surface of the food or beverage container, where the coating composition includes an emulsion-polymerized latex copolymer having copolymer chains of one or more ethylenically-unsaturated monomers and one or more styrene offset monomers. Preferably, the coating composition is substantially free of BPA, PVC, and styrene. The method may also include curing the sprayed coating composition, thereby providing the coating on the interior surface of the food or beverage container.
Abstract: A coating composition is provided that is useful in coating metal substrates such as interior and/or exterior surfaces of food or beverage cans. In preferred embodiments, the coating composition is formulated using a physical blend of a preformed resin system and an alkali-soluble resin additive.

Abstract: Water-dispersible or water-dispersed polymers are made by reacting (i) an unsaturated monomer containing one or more cyclic carbonate groups, or (ii) an unsaturated or saturated oligomer or polymer containing a plurality of cyclic carbonate groups, with a tertiary amine in the presence of an acid, or with an acid in the presence of a tertiary amine, or in the presence of an acid and a tertiary amine, to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed monomer, oligomer or polymer. When step a) provides a monomer or oligomer, the monomer or oligomer is reacted with one or more monomers in the presence of an initiator to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed polymer. When step a) provides a polymer, the polymer is optionally used to support emulsion polymerization of one or more unsaturated monomers in the presence of an initiator to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed further polymer.

Abstract: A latex emulsion may include an aqueous carrier liquid and a latex copolymer formed from reactants comprising butyl methacrylate, wherein the reactants include at least 20 wt. % butyl methacrylate, based on the total weight of ethylenically unsaturated monomers used to make the latex copolymer. A coating formed from the latex emulsion exhibits a wet adhesion to a thermoplastic polyolefin roofing membrane of greater than about 1 pound per linear inch when tested using fabric embedded peel adhesion testing per ASTM C794. The latex emulsion may be used as part of an aqueous coating composition or a roofing system including a polymeric roofing membrane.
