  • Patent number: 11410335
Abstract: A method includes obtaining first color information for each of a plurality of first samples of a first target color with a color measurement device connected to a computing device including a display. A digital color image of at least one first target color is displayed on the display. An offset value for each first target color is determined such that the digital color image of each first target color matches the corresponding first target color on each of the first samples. A second sample including a second target color is scanned to obtain second color information. A processor of the computing device determines, using the offset values of the first target colors, an interpolated offset for the display such that the digital image of the second target color matches the second target color.

  • Patent number: 11396570
Abstract: This invention relates to urethane acrylic hybrid polymer dispersion with robust dry/wet adhesion and the basecoats prepared therefrom for automotive applications. In this system, the polyurethane dispersion (PUD) prepolymer is based on a combination of polyols and aliphatic diisocyanates. The acrylic portion is based on (meth)acrylated monomers. A combination of this hybrid polymer dispersion and other resins having defined glass transition temperature (Tg) values, organic and/or inorganic rheology modifiers, and different additives including pigment, dispersant, and defoamer are used to prepare waterborne basecoats having modified appearance and performance. The final coatings show excellent dry/wet adhesion to the primer for automotive applications.

  • Patent number: 11396604
Abstract: A coating composition may include a polymeric binder and bacteria that exhibit biologically induced mineralization (BIM) or biologically controlled mineralization (BCM) of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) in the presence of environmental calcium. The bacteria may exhibit BIM or BCM of CaCO3 using the ChaA antiporter protein. The coating formulations may be used to form coatings that exhibit self-healing properties in response to damage, such as a cut, tear, puncture, abrasion, or the like. For example, in response to being exposed to the damage, the bacteria may utilize nutrients, a calcium source, and water to cause precipitation of CaCO3 at the site of the damage. The nutrients, the calcium source, and the water may be provided as part of the coating formulation, as part of another layer of a coating system, from an external source (e.g., an applied spray or wash), or combinations thereof.
