  • Patent number: 7853979
Abstract: A method to transmit streamed information at a wireless tele- and data communication network by transmitting streamed high prioritized information via a secure medium, whereas low prioritized data are transmitted over a standard channel. The method combines two technologies, MMS and Streaming, to guarantee that a video client in a mobile terminal has access to high prioritized data on the right occasion. By using MMS as an initial notification for the medium, in a message just any amount of high prioritized information can be enclosed, for instance any number of I-frames. The video client in this way has a lead at the video decoding, and the streaming protocol will have more time to secure that the rest of data actually will get through.

  • Patent number: 6845086
Abstract: The invention relates to a method at a cellular radio communications system which makes possible that the probability of congestion for multislot mobiles in said system is reduced. In the future, the GSM-system will offer high speed data services, at which one of these is HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data). The HSCSD-service includes two services called “fixed service” and “flexible service”. At the first mentioned service, the mobile is allocated a fixed number of time slots which shall be allocated during the whole call, whereas at the last mentioned service the number of allocated time slots can vary during the course of the call. The mobile stations of today with their simplex filters can perform only one thing at a time, i.e. either transmit, measure or receive signals. It therefore is important to have possibility to allocate consecutive time slots for multislot mobiles.

  • Patent number: 6831918
Abstract: An ATM transmission system is adapted for the simultaneous transmission (i.e. multicasting) of IP data packets to a plurality of system users, using ATM as a carrier network, and includes an IP/ATM network including clusters of Logical IP Systems (LISs), a multicast address resolution server (MARS) for each cluster, and a multicast router (MCR) for each cluster. The clusters are interconnected through the MCRs which form an inter-cluster backbone for the IP/ATM network. Each cluster includes an integral number of ATM hosts and LISs, the size of a cluster is dependent on physical and administrative constraints, and each LIS, within a cluster, is adapted to support a number of ATM hosts. Multicasting of IP data packets within a cluster utilizes a MARS protocol, and multicasting between clusters utilizes an inter-cluster multicasting protocol (ILMP). All ATM hosts within a cluster, even if supported by different LISs, are adapted to be configured with an address of the same MARS.

  • Patent number: 6822963
Abstract: The present invention provides a very simple and scalable architecture which gives a substantially optimal solution for an IP over ATM network service, by exploiting the QoS of the ATM network, providing shortcut communication when necessary, reducing connection setup delay and smoothing migration from the current deployments, while retaining simplicity. This is achieved by introducing three additional functions to the normal operation of the Classical IP model, namely: flow classification/detection, explicit indication of ATM address and QoS, to the receiver, prior to connection setup and receiver initiated connection setup. The present invention also provides, a multi-cast architecture based on an extension to the Multi-cast Address Resolution Service (MARS) architecture known from IETF.

  • Patent number: 6687731
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for load sharing in computer networks and, more exactly, an arrangement for distribution of traffic, for instance via Internet, from clients (1) to service suppliers who provide services from many servers. The invention makes possible distribution to one of a number of replicated servers. Suitable server is selected for instance on basis of available resources at the interface of the server, or less delay in the transmission. The invention results in better performance and reduced traffic by distribution of the traffic geographically and from a resource point of view. According to the invention, a number of replicated servers (5A-5E) belong to an anycast-group and each anycast-group is connected to a domain name server (2) which has the ability to select one of the replicated servers, so that a router (4) can establish a connection between the selected server and the service-requesting client computer.

  • Patent number: 6678736
Abstract: A method at a telecommunications system and a data communications system configured to adapt a resource reservation protocol for fixed networks to radio networks with a large variation in bandwidth and quality. Using a method of hierarchical coding, a data stream is divided into separate data streams with different priorities. Using the resource reservation protocol, resources in the fixed network for the data streams are reserved. A node in the fixed network shunts the data streams according to a pre-decided priority as the transmission capacity of the node decreases. Thus, if the transmission capacity at the node decreases and the quality requirement of a data stream cannot be maintained, the data stream in question is shunted. Upon shunting, the node transmits a message instructing upstream nodes to update their resource reservations; use the reserved resource temporarily for other traffic; and shunt the data stream until otherwise instructed.

  • Patent number: 6611584
Abstract: In a telecommunication network a subscriber connected to an originating local exchange requests activation of a supplementary service. The supplementary service establishes an end-to-end TC-dialogue with a corresponding supplementary service of a destination local exchange. The TC-dialogue terminates the request on an interfering telecommunication service in an intermediate node. For preventing service operation failure in case of interaction between the supplementary service and the interfering telecommunication service, a relay link is established between an incoming TC-dialogue and an outgoing TC-dialogue at the intermediate node to realize a chain of end-to-end TC-dialogues between the originating exchange and the destination exchange, while using a transparent relay functionality independent of utilizing TCAP based supplementary service ASEs as intermediate nodes.

  • Patent number: 6606481
Abstract: A system provides interactive control of broadband services. There are today systems which offer distributive services, for instance analog cable-TV, analog satellites and acting terrestrial TV-networks. A paradigm shift, however, has been initiated in connection with that digital transmissions have started, which make possible a more spectrum efficient transmission. This means, for instance, that a broadband service such as digital transmission of video channels can be developed by making it interactive. One solution can be to use the GSM-system. For example, services which require low capacity in uplink can utilize the SMS-function is GSM. At larger demand of bandwidth GSM's data services can be utilized, which however prevents calls when the telephone is used for interactive communication. The invention solves this problem by interactive traffic between the transmitting and receiving equipment being managed by an interactive center (IC) which is arranged to execute wanted broadband service.
