Patent number: 9340847Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to methods of manufacturing steel tubes that can be used for mining exploration, and rods made by the same. Embodiments of the methods include a quenching of steel tubes from an austenitic temperature prior to a cold drawing, thereby increasing mechanical properties within the steel tube, such as yield strength, impact toughness, hardness, and abrasion resistance. Embodiments of the methods reduce the manufacturing step of quenching and tempering ends of a steel tube to compensate for wall thinning during threading operations. Embodiments of the methods also tighten dimensional tolerances and reduce residual stresses within steel tubes.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2012Date of Patent: May 17, 2016Assignee: Tenaris Connections LimitedInventors: Eduardo Altschuler, Pablo Egger

Publication number: 20140370217Abstract: Equipment for oil and/or gas drilling, completion, storage and transportation, including pressure vessels, tools, pipes, tubes, connections and any other parts is coated with highly structured composite material. Due to its highly structured composition it is a particularly effective barrier to protect metals against attack by corrosive substances such as hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and sea water, if necessary under hydrothermal conditions. At the same time it is also abrasion stable, for example against a grinding effect by sand, as well as resistant to the impact of mechanical load e.g. by tools. This is achieved by a coating comprising a binder comprising at least one cross-linked resin, wherein the resin comprises at least one of polar group; at least one type of hydrophilic flakes with an aspect ratio of more than 10, wherein the surface of the flakes at least partially comprises a metal oxide.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2011Publication date: December 18, 2014Applicant: Tenaris Connections LimitedInventors: Teresa Perez, Maurizio Bellingardi, Paolo Bortot, Douglas Espin, Carsten Becker-Willinger, Frank Hollmann, Marlon Jochum, Michael Opsoelder, Sabine Schmitz-Stoewe

Patent number: 8855965Abstract: Thread parameters for a threaded object are determined. Spatial reference systems (X, Y, Z) and (X?, Y?, Z?) are respectively identified for a position sensor and the threaded object. A transformation matrix describing a quadratic form representing the threaded object in (X, Y, Z) may be determined to relate the reference systems. For example, a sensor trajectory on the threaded object may be determined, along with measurement points on the threaded object. The measurement points may be selected so the matrix, evaluated on these values, has maximum rank. Position data at measurement points in the second reference system may be transformed into the first reference system, yielding first results. After coating the threaded object, position data at the measurement points may be acquired again and transformed into the first reference system, yielding second results. Comparisons between the first and second results may provide thickness of the coating and quality verification.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2011Date of Patent: October 7, 2014Assignee: Tenaris Connections LimitedInventors: Nicolas Hernan Bonadeo, Sebastian Berra, Javier Ignacio Etcheverry

Publication number: 20140262337Abstract: The disclosed manufacture method for a length of tubing can produce a length of fatigue resistant tubing that has relatively high fatigue resistance and relatively low strip-to-strip welding length. The Fatigue resistance is calculated from experimental settings with controlled parameters and/or simulations reproducing similar material properties and loading conditions. A high fatigue resistance means certain product characteristics (e.g., low plasticization, low hydrostatic stress levels and free of imperfections welds) can be retained with an adequate bias weld design at low values after a specific test number of cyclic loading. The relatively low strip-to-strip welding length is an advantage for reducing probabilities of having cracks initiated and/or propagated at weld locations, where imperfections and localized differences of mechanical properties commonly cause failure. Low strip-to-strip welding length can also reduce the costs for welding.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicant: Tenaris Connections LimitedInventors: Sebastian Cravero, Martin Valdez, Jorge Mitre, Hugo Alejandro Emst, Ricardo Schifini Gladchtein
