Publication number: 20030191377Abstract: A method is provided for building improved calibration models or for improving modifications to these models or validation of the models used in the non-invasive spectroscopic measurement of an analyte or attribute of tissue. The method uses a matched reference sample and measurement of that sample to ensure that the correct relationship between the spectra and analyte is made during the model building, modification or calibration process. A matched reference sample is one in which the analyte of interest or attribute of interest in the reference sample is representative of the analyte or attribute at the site being non-invasively sampled or the agreement between the reference concentration and the non-invasively sampled concentration is clinically significant.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2002Publication date: October 9, 2003Applicants: InLight Solutions, Inc., University of New MexicoInventors: Mark Ries Robinson, Cliona Fleming, Howland Jones, Mark Rohrscheib

Patent number: 6501578Abstract: A line of sight laser communication system includes a laser to generate a laser signal with femtosecond pulses. A first grating spectrally disperses the femtosecond pulses of the laser signal. A programmable mask converts the femtosecond pulses of the laser signal into coded words. A second grating spectrally recombines the coded words of the laser signal. A telescope then launches the laser signal. The launched laser signal is received at a receiving telescope. A second laser generates a set of reference pulses. A non-linear crystal combines the set of reference pulses and the laser signal to create an output signal only when the laser signal and the reference pulses temporally coincide. A camera records the output signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1998Date of Patent: December 31, 2002Assignees: Electric Power Research Institute, Inc., The University of New MexicoInventors: Ralph Bernstein, Thomas M. Patent number: 6498189Abstract: The invention provides anti-thiol reagents which inhibit enzyme activity of cell-associated protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) by oxidizing or blocking PDI active site vicinal thiol groups which normally participate in disulfide bond rearrangement of PDI substrates. Inhibition of this PDI function is particularly useful in blocking PDI-mediated entry of HIV or other virions into a host cell, as well as inhibiting lymphocyte traffic through the lymph nodes. The invention further provides an assay for the identification of such PDI inhibitors based on the discovery that inhibitors of the invention also induce shedding of the leucocyte L-selectin adhesion molecule. The invention additionally provides for suppression of inflammation and of lymph node entry by calmodulin antagonists that, like PDI inhibition, cause leukocyte L-selectin shedding.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1999Date of Patent: December 24, 2002Assignee: University of New MexicoInventors: Snezna Rogelj, Teresa A. Patent number: 6452166Abstract: An electrical equivalent circuit is provided for an electrospray process. It is a series circuit which includes a power supply voltage (Vapp), a voltage (Vec) established at the electrochemical contact to the solution, a solution resistance (Rs), a constant current regulator which represents the processes of charge separation and charge transport in the gap between the spray needle aperture and the counter electrode, and a voltage (Vcn) caused by charge neutralization at the counter electrode. A current i, established by the constant current regulator flows throughout the entire circuit. Current-voltage curves are developed for each part of the circuit. From these it is shown that in the case where Rs is negligible (the power supply is connected directly to a conducting needle) the shape of the current-voltage curve is dictated by the constant current regulator established by the charge separation process, the gap, and the counter electrode.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2000Date of Patent: September 17, 2002Assignee: University of New MexicoInventors: Christie G. Patent number: 6434037Abstract: A high-speed, ultra-dense, via contact programmable ROM based on multiplexor cells is presented. High density is achieved by fully encoding n-bits of address space and programming the core with 2n bits of information per contact through the use of higher order logic techniques. Subfunction encoding is used to make substantial improvement to the area required for ROM structures. The programming is accomplished using via contacts between the top two metal layers. No transistors are used in the programmed core for the ROM, reducing the bit line load and helping to maintain a high level of performance.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2000Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: University of New MexicoInventor: Sterling Whitaker
