Patent number: 7879278Abstract: Methods for manufacturing panel units may include applying a cover tape to a surface of a panel in such a way as to substantially extend along a periphery of the panel. An extrusion molding die may be moved relative to the panel in such a way that the extrusion molding die moves along the periphery of the panel while at least partially contacting the cover tape applied to the panel. At the same time, a molten molding material may be extruded from the extrusion molding die, thereby integrally forming a molded article on the periphery of the panel. The cover tape may be then removed from the surface of the panel in order to produce a panel unit having the molded article disposed along the periphery of the panel.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2004Date of Patent: February 1, 2011Assignee: Tokai Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Naotaka Hanai, Tomohiro Sakagami, Toshiaki Kakuto, Takanori Tanaka

Patent number: 7811504Abstract: A molded product includes a matrix formed of a polymer material and a plurality of capsules dispersed in the matrix. An unevenness is formed on a surface due to expansion of the capsules. Some of the capsules have expanded without bursting and include an exposed outer shell portion that protrudes from a surface, and/or some of the capsules have burst and include an outer shell protruding portion that protrudes outward from the surface. Finish processing is performed, which eliminates the outer shell protruding portions and/or the exposed outer shell portions from the surface. This results in a molded product in which a color difference due to frequency of contacting an object, etc. is not easily generated.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2008Date of Patent: October 12, 2010Assignee: Tokai Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yasuyuki Takeuchi, Keiji Hiroe, Hideki Iwamoto

Patent number: 6287406Abstract: Methods for preparing a panel unit having a panel and a frame in which a first molding piece is formed by engaging an extrusion port of an extrusion molding die with a peripheral edge of the panel and extruding an extruded molding material along the peripheral edge of the panel. The extruded molding material preferably simultaneously bonds to the peripheral edge. Waste pieces may be eliminated from the first molding piece after bonding the first molding piece to the peripheral edge and the frame may be completed by adding an additional molding piece to provide a continuously formed frame around the peripheral edge. The first molding piece may be formed by continuously moving the peripheral edge relative to the extrusion port in a predetermined orbital path. The peripheral edge of the panel may be subjected to a primer treatment before engaging the extrusion port.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1999Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Tokai Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Toshikazu Ito, Yoshihiro Suita

Patent number: 6170219Abstract: A flange of a panel is inserted into an extrusion port of an extrusion molding die through an insertion slit, which opens laterally of the extrusion port, to thereby form a molding space that corresponds to a trim member between the extrusion port and the flange. A material for forming the trim member is extruded forwardly of the extrusion port through the molding space. The die and the flange are moved relative to each other while adjusting the insertion depth of the flange into the extrusion port so that the distance between a reference on the panel and the trim member is maintained at a desired distance. Thus, a trim member is extrusion molded on the edge of the flange of the panel and is mounted thereon simultaneously, thereby accurately mounting the trim member on the in a desired outer shape.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 1999Date of Patent: January 9, 2001Assignee: Tokai Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yukihiko Yada, Takeaki Niwa
