  • Patent number: 5143461
Abstract: A thermal head of a printer is provided to contact a platen through an elongated print paper and an elongated ink ribbon. One end of the ink ribbon is wound and retained on a ribbon core, and the other end is taken up by a take up spool. The print paper and the ink ribbon can be fed back at the same speed by reversely rotating the platen. At the same time, rotation resistance to be applied from the take-up spool to the ink ribbon is removed by a resistance removing device. Further, the ribbon core is reversely rotated by a ribbon core reverse driving device to rewind the ink ribbon, thereby preventing slacking of the ink ribbon.

  • Patent number: 5138338
Abstract: An edge emission type EL printer having a line head constituted by an array of numerous edge emission type EL devices. One group of electrodes for the EL devices receive driving pulses from a first driver means, and the other group thereof get driving pulses from a second driver means as per emission control signals. This allows the EL devices to selectively luminesce, forming an electrostatic latent image on the circumference surface of a photosensitive body charged by a charger. The image is developed by a developer and transferred to a recording medium by a transfer machine. The emission control signals entering the line head are monitored so that when the absence of EL devices luminescing within one primary scanning line is detected from the monitoring, a driving pulse stopping means is activated to stop accordingly the driving pulses continuously applied to the EL devices by the first driver means.

  • Patent number: 5135315
Abstract: A transfer printer includes a platen drive mechanism for rotating a platen roller facing a print head, and a paper feed mechanism for feeding a paper sheet passing between the platen roller and the head. A ribbon supply device is driven through a transmission mechanism by the drive power of the feed mechanism. The transmission mechanism has a roller holder supporting a transmission gear and arranged to be movable between a transmission position wherein the transmission gear engages an interlocking gear of the feed mechanism and an input gear of the ribbon supply device and a release position wherein the transmission gear is disengaged from the input gear so as to interrupt the power transmission. The roller holder is urged by a spring toward the transmission position, and restricted an excessive movement to the transmission position so that the transmission gear is in mesh with the input gear with a suitable backlash.

  • Patent number: 5133616
Abstract: A printing machine comprises a frame for supporting a pair of roller shafts spaced apart at a predetermined distance from each other and, a flat platen disposed between the roller shafts. An endless sheet-feeding belt made of an elastic material is stretched between the roller shafts. The sheet-feeding belt has an inner surface sliding on the flat platen by rotation of the roller shafts and an outer surface having such a high frictional coefficient that allows a sheet on the outer surface to be fed together with the sheet-feeding belt. A pair of pinch rollers hold the sheet in cooperation with the outer surface of the sheet-feeding belt at the roller shafts, for feeding the sheet. A printing head is opposed to the outer surface of the sheet-feeding belt at the flat platen.
