  • Patent number: 5106652
Abstract: A method for manufacturing edge emission type EL device arrays is disclosed. The method initially involves depositing a first and a second lower electrode layer of different properties. The second lower electrode layer is patterned into a common electrode arrangement conductive to a plurality of edge emission type EL devices. On top of the first and second lower electrode layers, an EL device layer and an upper electrode layer are deposited. The first lower electrode layer is patterned together with the EL device layer and upper electrode layer into a plurality of edge emission type EL devices. The parts ranging from the top edge of the light-emitting edges for the EL devices to the inside of the substrate are etched. This provides a highly smooth light-emitting edge for each EL device.

  • Patent number: 5106212
Abstract: A printing head supporting device including a supporting mechanism for supporting a printing head so that the printing head can be brought into contact with and separation from a platen, and a pressure plate detachably mounted to a printer body. When the pressure plate is mounted to the printer body, the printing head is maintained in contact with the platen to obtain a printable condition. In contrast, when the pressure plate is detached from the printer body, the printing head is maintained in separation from the platen, so that an operator can easily carry out a maintenance work such as cleaning of the printing head or removing of a recording paper caught between the printing head and the platen. Thus, the maintenance work can be easily carried out by a simple operation such that the pressure plate is simply detached from the printer body.

  • Patent number: 5104110
Abstract: A printer comprises a first sheet feed mechanism comprising a first transportation unit and a first sheet container, and a second sheet feed mechanism comprising a second transportation unit and a second sheet container. A sheet fed from the second sheet container is transported by the second transportation unit to the first transportation unit. The insertion of a sheet fed from the second sheet container into the first transportation unit is detected by a sheet detector. The feed speed of the second transportation unit is adjusted to a feed speed higher than that of the first transportation unit before the sheet detector detects the leading edge of a sheet fed from the second sheet container. The feed speed of the second transportation unit is adjusted to a feed speed not higher than that of the first transportaton unit upon the detection of the leading edge of the sheet fed from the second sheet container by the sheet detector.

  • Patent number: 5101287
Abstract: An optical document reader which uses a document keeper to hold a document in place on a document table and which moves an optical unit in the secondary scanning direction along a shaft for optically reading the document. The shaft is supported by a support member which rotates around one end of a support shaft and along the document table. The support member, externally rotated by an adjusting mechanism, is rotatably released by a clutch mechanism. A support member returning mechanism returns the support member to its home position when the member is rotatably released by the clutch mechanism. If the side edge of the document is inclined against that of the document table, the adjusting mechanism rotates the support member to align the optical unit with the document in the secondary scanning direction. When the clutch mechanism rotatably releases the support member afterwards, the support member returning mechanism accurately returns the member to its home position.

  • Patent number: 5096313
Abstract: A dot printer head including a housing that contains electromagnets toward its back end, the electromagnets having cores positioned opposite to armatures which are supported detachably against the core. The housing slidingly supports needles connected to the armatures and pushed in retracting direction thereof. An armature stopper made of an elastic substance is fixedly attahced to the inside of a cover which closes the opening at the back end of the housing, the armature stopper being in contact with the vicinities of the free ends of the armatures. A spacer is made of a substance with a linear expansion coefficient such as to ensure the same expansion as that of the armature stopper in thickness, the spacer connecting the inside of the cover to the opening edge of the housing. In this setup, when the armature stopper extends in thickness in keeping with the temperature rise inside the housing during printing, the spacer expands by exactly the same thickness to retract the cover.
