  • Patent number: 7518599
Abstract: A display control device and a display control method for use in a portable electronic apparatus are disclosed. The portable electronic apparatus includes a main controller and a display panel. The display control device includes a digital data register in communication with the main controller for storing a digital data display signal received from the main controller, and a digital-to-analog converter in communication with the digital data register, converting the digital data display signal stored in the digital data register into an analog data display signal and outputting the analog data display signal to the display panel to be revealed. The main controller keeps on outputting refreshed digital data display signals in a normal mode, and suspends the output of any further digital data display signal in an idle mode. In the idle mode, the digital data register reiteratively outputs a last stored digital data display signal to the digital-to-analog converter.

  • Patent number: 7339641
Abstract: A transflective liquid crystal display with uniform cell gap configuration throughout the transmissive and the reflective display region is invented. Mutually complementary common electrode pattern and reflector pattern or mutually complementary ITO pixel electrode pattern and reflector pattern produce an electric field in the transmissive display region that has a uniform longitudinal field and an electric field in the reflective display region that is a fringing field. An initially vertically aligned negative dielectric anisotropic nematic liquid crystal material between the electrodes forms a smaller tilt angle with respect to the substrate normal in the reflective display region while a larger tilt angle with respect to the substrate normal in the transmissive display region. Consequently, the ambient incident light experiences smaller phase retardation in the reflective display region while the light from the backlight source experiences larger phase retardation.

  • Patent number: 7327420
Abstract: Methods, systems, devices and apparatus of using a reflective liquid crystal device for projection display operating at a reduced driving voltage and having an increased contrast ratio are disclosed. The reflective liquid crystal device comprises a first substrate, a second substrate with reflector means, and a twisted nematic liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate. A polarizing beam splitter is placed outside of the reflective liquid crystal device and adjacent to the first substrate. By setting the entrance polarization direction of the polarizing beam splitter along the azimuthal angle of the linearly polarized eigenmode of the reflective liquid crystal device at the designed driving voltage, a perfect dark state is obtained, which leads to a high contrast ratio at the designed low driving voltage.
