  • Patent number: 8619028
Abstract: A mobile communication terminal includes detection means that detects at least one of the position, orientation, attitude, and motion of a mobile communication terminal. Application program execution means can concurrently perform two direction changing processes different from each other according to two direction parameters by executing an application program, and determines at least one of the two direction parameters based on detection data detected by the detection means. The two direction changing processes are, for example, a visual point moving direction changing process for changing a moving direction of a visual point for viewing an image on a display means and a visual line direction changing process for changing a visual line direction. One of the direction parameters may be determined based on a key operation signal from key operation means.

  • Patent number: 8594563
Abstract: A mobile terminal is disclosed which includes a near field or RFID tag (41). The mobile terminal (1) communicates with the mobile telecommunications network and is authenticated with that network using the SIM (15). The mobile terminal (1) is operable to obtain security data from the user thereof, such as a PIN or biometric data, or the mobile terminal (1) incorporates a sensor such as a light sensor, pressure sensor, heat sensor, skin resistant sensor or inertial sensor. The input device or sensor is used to confirm the identity of the user or to evaluate whether the user wishes to use the near field tag (41) to make a payment or obtain entry to a building (for example). Data from the sensor is passed to the SIM (15), which issues a command enabling the near field tag (41), via link (43). The near field tag (41) may then be read by a reader.

  • Patent number: 8576801
Abstract: A method of assessing for a mobile terminal 1 the suitability of a cell of a cellular telecommunications network includes measuring the radio signal at the mobile terminal 1—step A; and calculating at least one of a first mean value of a plurality of the radio signal measurements over a first time period—step B—and a second mean value of a plurality of the radio signal measurements over a second time period, longer than the first time period—step D. Two different thresholds are provided. The or each mean value is compared to one or respective ones of the thresholds—steps C and E. If the or either of the mean values are below the or the respective threshold, then this indicates that the cell might not be suitable for the mobile terminal. In that instance, a cell reselection process—step F—or a cell handover process can be triggered.

  • Patent number: 8571071
Abstract: A method for scheduling traffic in wide area cellular telephone networks supporting the High-Speed Downlink Packet Access. The traffic contains packets related to users that are buffered in priority queues according to a value (i) which indicates a priority for transmission assigned to an incoming packet. The method includes determining a delay td of the incoming packet. The method also includes calculating at a current scheduling time t at least one value of a scheduling priority SchedP(i,t) where scheduling priority SchedP(i,t) is a function of the value (i) indicating the priority of the incoming packet and the delay td of the incoming packet. The further includes scheduling the packets buffered in the priority queues according to the values of the scheduling priority SchedP(i,t), and repeating the method every transmission time interval.

  • Patent number: 8543112
Abstract: A system and method for restricting public access to a mobile telecommunications network in order to prevent congestion. The system and method are particularly useful in situations where the number of end users exceeds, or is likely to exceed, network capacity, for example in emergency situations or for large public gatherings, such as sporting events or New Years Eve celebrations. The system and method disclosed uses filtering by network elements, such as the base stations and MSCs. In particular the system and method can filter low data messages, such as SMS, from more demanding services, such as voice calls, so that all low data messages are transmitted, while the more demanding services are terminated, unless special conditions are met.

  • Patent number: 8521467
Abstract: Acceleration and attitude angles are measured by sensors mounted on a moving object and the measurement results are collected. The measurement results of acceleration are separated into low-frequency acceleration components and high-frequency acceleration components, and a time-rate-of-changes of attitude angles are calculated based on the measurement results of the attitude angles. After finishing extraction of the high-frequency acceleration components and the low-frequency acceleration components, and finishing calculation of the time-rate-of-changes of attitude angles, the rotation contributing acceleration and translation contributing acceleration are estimated based on the high-frequency acceleration components, the low-frequency acceleration components, the attitude angles and the time-rate-of-change of attitude angles.

  • Publication number: 20130203408
Abstract: A telecommunications system includes a first (home) mobile telecommunications network A5 second (roamed) mobile telecommunications network B and a third (virtual) mobile telecommunications network C. The virtual network C does not have its own radio access network but uses the radio access network of network B in accordance with a commercial contract between networks B and C. Network C is a MVNO. When a mobile telecommunications device that has network A as its home network roams to network B, the mobile telecommunications device initially registers with network B as the roamed network. Conventionally, communications between network A and network B would be transmitted via a fixed communication link (25) (such as a leased line). However, in the embodiment described, the network A transmits a command to the mobile telecommunications device, instructing that device to de-register from network B and to re-register with virtual network C.

  • Patent number: 8472335
Abstract: Method and RNC for selecting transmission technology when a UE enters the network, which checks whether the UE is MIMO and, if so and only one carrier is available, allocates its traffic to said carrier and uses a S-CPICH to provide all MIMO traffic with a diversity pilot and Virtual Antenna Mapping for balance. If more than one carrier is available, the number of UEs, their radio conditions and load of carriers are checked periodically. If the carrier is busy only with MIMO and its load is higher than the load of the remaining carriers, diversity CPICH of STTD is selected; otherwise and only if the UEs vulnerable to STTD with good radio conditions exceed a certain number, the S-CPICH is selected. The RNC can reconfigure the network from transmitting MIMO traffic with STTD to using MIMO with S-CPICH or vice versa dynamically by periodical check of the load and UEs criteria for configuration change.

  • Patent number: 8473001
Abstract: A communication device is disclosed which includes a wireless communicator part for use with a cellular telecommunications network and a supplementary part to which the wireless communicator part is coupleable. The wireless communicator part has an associated identifier for uniquely identifying it to the network. The supplementary part also has an associated identifier for uniquely identifying it to the network. The identifiers enable the network to determine the functional attributes of the part with which the identifier is associated. Embodiments are described which allow the network to always be aware of the functional attributes of the device. The functional attributes of the device will change depending upon the coupling and uncoupling of the wireless communicator part to the supplementary part. The identifiers may be IMEIs and may be transmitted as a USSD string.
