  • Patent number: 4646706
Abstract: In the representative system for continuous fuel injection described in the specification, an air pump withdraws air from the air intake line of a gasoline engine and a fuel pump delivers fuel from a fuel tank through a fuel pressure regulator to a metering device which supplies fuel as a function of the operating state of the internal combustion engine, the air withdrawn from the intake line being mixed with the fuel from the metering device. The fuel pressure regulator returns excess fuel to the fuel tank through a return line and, in order provide fast response to sudden load changes, a valve device, which can be adjusted as a function of the variations in the rate of application of the load on the internal combustion engine, is provided in the return line. The valve device is controlled according to changes in the vacuum in the intake line downstream from a butterfly valve.

  • Patent number: 4638719
Abstract: A pressure-unbalanced hydraulic amplifier valve assembly has an axially slidable amplifier piston and a control plunger axially slidably arranged in the amplifier piston with a loose fit to permit a slight radial movement thereof in the amplifier piston. For providing a tight seal in the zone of control ports arranged in the amplifier piston, the control plunger is urged in that zone radially against the amplifier piston by a transverse piston continuously exposed to the system pressure. A pressure piston engages one end of the control plunger and is exposed to an external force (such as a braking force applied by a pedal) for axially displacing the control plunger. In order to eliminate undesired axial force components from the force applied by the transverse piston, a force-transmitting ball contacts the transverse piston and an inner wall of the control plunger forming a throughgoing axial bore and constituting an axially linear track for the ball.

  • Patent number: 4616617
Abstract: For the purpose of identification of a combustion chamber producing undesirable hunting in a fuel injection combustion engine, the duration of injection of a defined injection valve is changed in such a manner that additional hunting is caused, and from the crank angle interval (KW) between the additional and the undesirable hunting, is derived, taking into account the rotational speed n of the engine, an identification signal for the combustion chamber to be identified. The identification signal is utilized to change the fuel injection time for the combustion chamber causing the uneveness to eliminate the latter.

  • Patent number: 4605087
Abstract: In the particular embodiments described in the specification, an all-wheel drive system is disclosed wherein either the wheels of both the front axle and the rear axle of a vehicle are driven continuously and the front axle and rear axle can be rigidly coupled with each other, or wherein the wheels of only one axle are driven continuously while the drive for the wheels of the second axle can be obtained automatically by means of a viscosity clutch arranged in the driving train between the front axle and the rear axle so that the front and the rear axles are coupled with each other essentially rigidly according to the torque. In addition, one or more coupling devices are provided which are constructed so that a decrease in the rotational speed of the front wheels, caused in particular by the actuation of the service brake, cannot be transmitted through the driving train to the rear wheels.

  • Patent number: 4585281
Abstract: In the particular embodiments described in the specification, a pressure-actuated brake system for motor vehicles with a brake slip control includes a control means electronically detecting the commencement of a brake slip control operation to provide a signal to increase the brake pressure of at least some of the other wheels which are not yet under brake-slip regulation. The pressure applied to those wheels is increased above the pressure inherently applied by the operator's actuation of the brake pedal at the wheel brake cylinder until such time as brake slip regulation commences at those wheels as well.

  • Patent number: 4544299
Abstract: In the embodiments of the invention described in the specification, a piston and a connecting rod of an internal combustion engine have opposed approximately semi-cylindrical bearing regions partially enclosing a pin, leaving free gaps between the bearing regions to permit swivel motions of the piston and connecting rod about the axis of the pin. Two symmetrical rings which surround the pin axis retain the bearing regions against the pin. The provision of such opposed bearing regions reduces the oscillating mass of the link joint.

  • Patent number: 4543855
Abstract: A method for operating a vehicle having an automatic, continuously variable speed transmission comprising at least three control phases. During a first control phase, the engine speed is maintained at a substantially constant value while the transmission gear ratio is increased to the maximum transmission gear ratio. During a second control phase, the transmission gear ratio is maintained at the maximum transmission gear ratio while the engine speed is increased to the maximum engine speed possible at the maximum gear ratio and selected throttle valve angle. During a third control phase, the transmission gear ratio is decreased from the maximum transmission gear ratio, so that higher vehicle traveling speeds may be obtained. During the third control phase the transmission gear ratio may be rapidly changed to a ratio corresponding to maximum engine power when the accelerator pedal is placed in a kickdown position.

  • Patent number: 4533011
Abstract: A hybrid drive for a vehicle includes an electric engine supplied with energy from an electrical storage device and capable of returning energy back to the storage device. The electric engine is connected with a driving axle of the vehicle by a first disconnecting clutch and to an internal combustion engine arranged in series therewith by a second disconnecting clutch. Operation of these clutches can be independent of each other. In order to save fuel the internal combustion engine is not supplied with a dedicated flywheel, but instead utilizes the rotating masses of the drive between the disconnection points of the two clutches, e.g., the rotating elements of the electric engine, as a flywheel.
