  • Patent number: 4778005
Abstract: This invention relates to shell and tube heat exchangers and similar equipment and is particularly concerned with an improved arrangement for sealing the longitudinal edges of the pass baffle with the inner wall of the shell in such a manner as to prevent fluid leaks through that juncture which have the effect of bypassing the heat exchanger. The invention also relates to an improved tube bundle design wherein an aligned notch or indentation is provided in each of the tube bundle cross baffles adjacent the longitudinal edges of the pass baffle to yield a measure of protection for the edge of the pass baffle when the bundle is removed from the shell for maintenance purposes and to an optimized tube bundle configuration which may be readily reversed or rotated to extend its service life.

  • Patent number: 4778338
Abstract: A turbine stage which has a stationary blade set (204) followed by a moving blade set (205) which have blades (206, 207) mounted between a floor plate (201, 211) and a ceiling plate (202, 212).The surfaces of the ceiling plate (202, 212) and/or of the floor plate (201, 211) have as their meridian lines sinusoids with the maximum for the ceiling plate (202, 211) and the maximum or the minimum for the floor plate (201, 211) located in the plane between the blade sets. The curvature of the sinusoid at the outlet end.The curvature of the sinusoid at the outlet end of the stationary blade set (204) is calculated so as to make the tangential static pressure gradient equal to the radial static pressure gradient at the ceiling plate and/or at the floor plate equal at the outlet end of the stationary blade set (204).The disturbances are confined to restricted zones and the efficiency of the stage is thereby improved.

  • Patent number: 4776164
Abstract: An earth-moving machine has an automatic device for minimizing the running speed of the main engine when no power is required by the hydraulic actuators. This device establishes a predetermined hydraulic fluid flow-rate in the servocontrol in the non-neutral position of the servocontrol itself. This flow-rate is indicated by an on-off flow-rate sensor inserted in the auxiliary hydraulic control circuit between the pump and the servocontrols, this sensor controlling the variation in the operating condition of the injection pump of the main engine by means of an electromagnet.

  • Patent number: 4771678
Abstract: The double acting hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly of the present invention utilizes a unique fastening mechanism for fastening the piston to the cylinder rod. The piston has a rod receiving opening through which the piston rod is fitted. The piston includes a piston groove which is aligned with an annular rod groove in the outer surface of the rod. Extending from the outer circumference of the piston inwardly to the piston groove is an access opening, through which a retaining wire is inserted. The retaining wire is wrapped around the piston rod and fits within both the piston groove and the rod groove so as to hold the piston against longitudinal movement with respect to the rod.The method of the present invention comprises inserting the retainer wire through the access opening in the piston and rotating the piston until the wire wraps around the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 4769989
Abstract: A device for controlling the pressure in an auxiliary-pressure supply system of a hydraulic brake unit for automotive vehicles, which device comprises a diaphragm-type or bladder-type accumulator equipped with a hydraulic and electric switching arrangement by way of which the hydraulic pressure in the pressure accumulator can be reduced to a predetermined value after the engine of the vehicle has been turned off. An electromagnetic multidirectional control valve is used to divert hydraulic fluid back to a reservoir through a pressure-limiting valve connected downstream thereof. After the engine of the vehicle has been turned off, the multidirectional control valve remains open until the accumulator pressure has decreased to at least the gas inflation pressure of the accumulator. The invention reduces permeation of gas molecules through the diaphragm of the accumulator into the hydraulic fluid and thus effects a longer useful life of the pressure accumulator.

  • Patent number: 4765229
Abstract: A portable vacuum pump for desoldering applications has a hollow cylindrical barrel forming a vacuum cylinder containing a plunger. The pump has a trigger housing containing a single compression spring. The spring is mounted outside the barrel. No separate return spring is required to hold the trigger in the latched position. The single trigger keeps the spring end out of the barrel and thus out of contact with the soldering debris. This allows more space for the plunger, producing a longer stroke and a higher vacuum.
