Abstract: Method for securing an insert to a denture. A sheet of standard denture adhesive, which conforms to the denture gum-receiving surface is overlaid over the gum-receiving surface. The dentures are predrilled at the ends thereof with holes to permit fastening of the ends of the adhesive material to the denture. By using a standard household polyester thread and needle, it is possible to sew the ends of the adhesive material to the first and second denture ends, maintaining the adhesive material ends in proper relationship with the denture, and preventing slippage.

Abstract: A hair waving device which can be quickly and easily interconnected with adjacent devices of identical construction so that the devices disposed proximate the outer extremities of the strand of hair to be waved, where the individual hairs are very fine, are held firmly in place by the devices clamped proximate the root portion of the strand where the individual hairs are of larger diameter.

Abstract: Heretofore it has not been fully appreciated that in order to make a hairpiece undetectable it must be possible to position the hairpiece on the head of the wearer with a precision which is nothing short of incredible. However, once correct positioning has been achieved, other factors which were previously thought to affect detectability turn out to be relatively unimportant.A removable rigid mask is fabricated to partially cover and precisely fit the temples and forehead of the hairpiece wearer. A transferable marking is placed on the wearer's head along the base or edge of the hairpiece, and the marking is transferred to the rigid mask. The mask is then cut along the marking, and the edge of the resulting cut mask is utilized to align with the base or edge of the hairpiece to provide a simple, rapid, and precise method for repeatably putting on the hairpiece with the precision required to make the hairpiece appear natural and undetectable.

Abstract: A slitted metal foil and method for forming a dental coping comprised of a composite body formed from at least two layers of precious metal with at least one or more slits extending from the perimeter to a location at or relatively close to the center of the foil to form slitted ends adapted to be overlaid to form a coping having a conical or frusto-conical shape.

Abstract: A simulated eyebrow applicator, comprises a sheet of thin material, a pair of simulated eyebrows formed thereon, a plurality of adhesive areas on the sheet of thin material, and a corrugated part or an extendable part. The applicator can be adhered to the face with the adhesive areas after the distance between the simulated eyebrows is adjusted with the corrugated part or the extendable part. Then the simulated eyebrows can be rubbed-pressed to the face.

Abstract: A face shield device for protecting the wearer's eyes and face from debris, bacteria, and the like includes an arcuate transparent face shielding panel and a support for holding the face shielding panel in front of and spaced outwardly away from the wearer's face. The support is attached to the face shielding panel and lays on the wearer's chest. In one embodiment, the support is suspended from the wearer's neck by a flexible band which fits around the wearer's neck. In another embodiment, the support is suspended from the wearer's shoulders by shoulder engaging hook members. The face shield device may also include means to protect the wearer from ultra-violet radiation or other types of radiation harmful to the face and eyes.

Abstract: A dental cleaning tool comprises a rotatable cleaning body of an elastically yielding material formed in a cuplike concavity extending inward from a rim and where curved ribs having triangular cross-section extend from the rim towards the center of the cup to a point removed from the center so as to provide a free zone at the center of the cup.

Abstract: A dental pin system including an enlongated pin having a plurality of pin sections each of which can be sheared from the next adjacent section by means of a reduced diameter frangible throat portion. The upper end of the pin includes a flattened tang which is securely inserted within an adaptor member. The adaptor member is barrel-shaped with an opposing pair of knobs, diametrically projecting from the midsection of the barrel. The adaptor member can be removably inserted into a pair of receiving slots at the end of a shank. The upper end of the shank is adapted for direct driving by means of a handpiece or hand driver. A plurality of the adaptor members, each color coded to identify their respective pin, can all be mounted on a plate in a prepackaged kit and a single shank can be used to connect to each adaptor member in turn whereby the shank is reused for the adaptors.

Abstract: A dental prosthesis including a secondary member coupled to at least one prosthetic tooth suitable for being effectively mounted onto or readily removed from a primary member coupled to a remaining tooth or implant. A bar member is accommodated inside a common bore in the primary and secondary members for coupling thereof. An arresting disc member is introduced into a recess inside the prosthetic toth to block off a leading shaft portion of the bar member having the largest cross-section and preventing the bar member from falling out. The entire bar member is suitable for freely moving along the bores of the primary and secondary members. Between an intermediate portion of the bar member and the recess inside the prosthetic tooth is a space which is filled with plastic material. A trailing head portion of the bar member is ground off to correspond with the buccal exterior surface of the prosthetic tooth.

Abstract: An article of manufacture comprising an absorbent hair wrapping material coated or impregnated with a hair structure altering, water soluble solution and the process of employing the wrapping. The hair wrapping material is capable of retaining between about 5 and about 15 times its weight of water and a water soluble hair reducing lotion. The water soluble hair reducing lotion contains one of an N--C.sub.8 to C.sub.22 alkyl lactam conditioner or an N-- quaternized amino lactam.

Abstract: A squeeze-type applicator bottle has a cap provided with an opening in the top wall thereof through which solution is adapted to be dispensed and a mechanism for metering the flow of the solution through the opening comprising a disk having apertures aligned with the opening, the apertures being dimensioned to provide a preferred flow rate relative to the viscosity of the solution, the disk being adapted to be replaced by other disks having apertures designed to force solutoins of different viscosities whereby the applicator bottle can be used in substantially the same manner independently of the viscosity of the solution being dispensed.

Abstract: This invention presents improved processes for applying artificial nails to natural fingernails and for applying durable protective coatings to the surface of natural nails. The improvements comprise applying a viscous cyanoacrylate adhesive to the nail surface and subsequently spreading the adhesive over the natural or combined artificial/natural nail surface using a solvent mixture containing a solvent capable of dissolving the adhesive and an effective amount of cyanoacrylate polymerization initiator. The use of this mixture permits easy spreading of the adhesive over the surface and causes polymerization of the cyanoacrylate on the surface. The result is a smooth coating over the entire surface to which polish can be applied.

Abstract: A bendable permanent wave rod is disclosed including an elongate rod that includes a core portion composed of a material that is longitudinally bendable into a selected shape and self-sustainable in that shape, and a flexible, substantially non-absorbent outer portion bonded to and sealably covering the core portion. The outer portion has an exterior surface that includes a coefficient of friction such that hair that engages the exterior surface resists slipping relative thereto. An elongate flexible hair retaining band having first and second end portions is provided. The first end portion is attached to first end of the rod and the second end portion is selectively secured to the opposite second end of the rod to secure the rod onto the hair rolled onto the rod.

Abstract: An orthodontic device has the form of a bracket with wings which are disposed on a base plate and which are constructed in the form of separate shaped parts and welded onto the base plate, the base plate itself forming a separately preformed component. Preferably, the separately preformed base plate is constructed in the form of an adhesive support or adhesive base, and for this purpose is constructed with undercut recesses on the underside of the base plate.

Abstract: An animal cage assembly (10) comprises a cage (12) supported by a base assembly having two opposite, inwardly and downwardly sloping baffles (34 and 36) which are spaced from one another to form a gap (38) therebetween positioned below the cage and a tray (68) positioned below the gap. There are two paper roll holders (54 and 56) each positioned adjacent a respective sloping baffle for providing paper (76) which can be pulled across a respective baffle for periodically replacing the paper on the baffle. The base assembly is comprised of a mounting frame (16) for holding the tray, and an insert member (14) which is removably mounted on the mounting frame and includes the baffles. Both the mounting frame and the insert member have solid end walls (44a and 44b and 30a and 30b) with the paper roll holders being mounted on the outside of the mounting frame's end walls.

Abstract: A material pack for the preparation of plate dentures comprises an outer pack formed of a material capable of shielding active energy beams, on which the necessary particulars are specified including the size and form of the jaws, the size, form and color tone of artificial teeth and the color tone of a photopolymerizable resin and the outer pack containing therein a matrix formed of a light transmitting material, the artificial teeth provided on the matrix while a part thereof projecting from the matrix, and the photopolymerizable resin provided inside of the matrix. The matrix may be coated thereon with a material capable of shielding active energy beams.

Abstract: A series of instruments for use in cleaning and shaping the root canal of a tooth is disclosed. The instruments are files having increasing tapers on sequentially-used files, with all of the files having the same, or nearly the same, small diameter at the tip of the cutting surface. The files create an increasingly tapered aperture in the root canal, which is exactly sized to admit a selected one of a set of variable taper filling materials available for filling a prepared root canal. Each file also has a safe edge to eliminate perforating the root canal, a rounded tip to eliminate ledging, and a handle shaped to provide a tactile reference to the orientation of the safe edge.

Abstract: Automatic hair shampoo machines were the basis of my U.S. Pat. No. 3,521,647. It overcame the problems associated with prior automatic shampoo machines. One of the imperfections of my earlier hair shampooing apparatus was its washing action. Another one was that during the time the apparatus of U.S. Pat. No. 3,521,647 was in service, it became apparent that the use of liquid tanks or reservoirs imposed limitations on its use. Still another area subject to improvement was a lack of a hair drying apparatus. By improvements herein a hair shampoo machine is provided which can be used unattended. It has an improved washing action, uses no tanks, and incorporates a hair drying apparatus. The washing action has been improved by, among other things, manifolds mounted at definite angles to complement each other. The solution tanks have been eliminated and replaced by a system which injects quantities of hair treating solutions. The hair drying apparatus includes outlets in the bowl or cover of the machine.

Abstract: An artifical hair for implantation comprising a loop and a hair root portion is prepared by forming a loop by winding a synthetic resin monofilament around a bar shaped jig, forming an S-twisted part by twining a first end of the monofilament around the second end of the monofilament and twisting the configuration once to form an S shape at the foot at the loop, and fusion bonding the S-twisted part of the monofilament only at a region between two points where both filaments intersect each other.

Abstract: A base structure for a dental prosthesis comprises first and second anchor elements which are permanently securable to the teeth on opposite sides of a space or gap in the tooth structure of a patient and a base element which is securable to the anchor elements in the gap but which comprises slidably interfitted first and second base element portions so that it is expendable to fit the width of the gap. The method of securing and forming a dental prosthesis in the gap with the base structure comprises the steps of securing the anchor elements on the teeth on opposite sides of the gap, assembling the base element with the anchor elements in the gap, securing the first and second base element portions together, forming an outer shell on the base element and securing the base element with the outer shell thereon to the anchor elements.
