  • Patent number: 4828492
Abstract: The present dental implant comprises a hollow perforate trans-mandibular or -maxillary bolt, adapted for receiving a trephined core of bone, for transverse implantation in the maxilla or mandible in conjunction with contiguous straps. These contiguous straps tighten against the periosteum, encase the alveolar ridge and thread through an adjustable implant receptor having a receptor site for abutment thereon. As a result of the combined hollow bolt/strap structure, the dental implant achieves stability by means of (1) medullary bony union with the perforate bolt; (2) subperiosteal bony union with the perforate contiguous straps; and (3) mechanical union afforded by the alveolar-ridge-encasing structure defined by the bolt and contiguous straps. The dental implant thus positioned can be used to support teeth, partial dentures or an entire dental arch. Implant materials may be those known in the art but are preferably biologically inert stainless steel and/or titanium alloys.

  • Patent number: 4824367
Abstract: In dental surgery when a tooth is to be crowned, the tooth has to be prepared by cutting a taper. It has been found that for the successful mounting of a crown the taper must be much more exactly prepared than is possible using currently available equipment. The present invention allows the initial position of the axis of a cutter to be related by means of electronic "spirit levels" to a selected axis. Deviation from this axis by more than a predetermined amount is indicated by light sources which can be seen regardless of the position of a handpiece holding the cutter. By means of a code these light sources indicate how the dentist must move the cutter to return to the correct axis.

  • Patent number: 4819675
Abstract: A method and a product employed in the method for the mechanical and cheml removal of dental plaques are disclosed. The method comprises providing cotton filaments of a size suitable for passing between teeth as a dental floss, chemically impregnating the cotton filaments by soaking in a saturated solution of potassium hydrogen tartrate and potassium hydrogen citrate, subsequently drying the chemically impregnated cotton fibers, and passing the dried chemically impregnated cotton filaments in the form of a dental floss between teeth and over the surfaces of the teeth containing plaque compositions including a calcium phosphate to thereby convert the calcium phosphate to the more soluble compounds calcium citrate and calcium tartrate which go into solution and the plaque is, thus, removed from the surfaces of the teeth.

  • Patent number: 4820153
Abstract: A process for treating periodontitis existing in the mouth of a patient having teeth with roots extending downwardly in the gums by using a scaler including a scraper with a cutting edge and a handle for the scraper. A dentist uses the scraper to remove tartar, concretions and necrotic root element from a tooth by guiding the cutting edge along the tooth root under the gums from the lowest point of the gum pocket and while exerting pressure on the root suddenly moving the cutting edge with a powerful jerk in scraping manner toward the chewing face of the tooth. The scaler is adapted for manual movement by the dentist and also has a mechanism which when actuated initiates and performs the jerk action without manual movement of the scraper by the dentist.

  • Patent number: 4807652
Abstract: A comb for removing lice and nits from the hair is formed by a base and a plurality of teeth extending from the base in substantially the same direction. The longitudinal axis of each tooth is parallel to the longitudinal axis of each other tooth. Each tooth has a polygonal cross sectional shape such as in the form of a modified triangle. The cross sectional dimensions of each tooth enlarge from the free end of each tooth toward the base so that the spacing between adjacent teeth narrows toward the base. The facing edges of adjacent teeth interact with each other to capture lice and nits therebetween. A rib is provided longitudinally along one of the faces of each tooth.

  • Patent number: 4802850
Abstract: A dental-porcelain color matching system comprises a plurality of dental-porcelain beads arranged in a closely spaced manner on a common support so that their colors vary in an ordered manner. The beads are carried at the ends of arms which are either flexible or pivotable on a main trunk of the support so that a bead to be located against a patent's natural tooth for color comparison therewith can be moved away from other beads on the support to avoid color interference therefrom. Additional beads provided have varying translucent enamels on opaque porcelain bases to allow the color, translucency and depth of enamel of a patient's teeth to be gauged. The beads also vary in shape from that of an unworn natural incisor tooth with a ridged cutting edge to that of a worn incisor tooth with a smooth cutting edge.
