  • Patent number: 9400087
Abstract: A shield for a light emitting diode (LED) luminaire includes a frame mountable to the LED luminaire such that the shield is removable therefrom. A plurality of rows of shield surfaces contact the frame and have a first side that faces a row of LEDs located on the LED luminaire and an opposite second side. The first side has a fully or partially reflective surface. The plurality of rows of shield surfaces prevent light from the LEDs from reflecting toward the back of the LED luminaire. The shield may include notches for allowing removal of one or more of the plurality of rows of shield surfaces or a portion thereof from the frame and for customization of light distribution from the LED luminaire. The shield may also be cut lengthwise such that each of the plurality of rows of shield surfaces includes a partial shield surface and shields only a portion of a row of LEDs located on the LED luminaire.

  • Patent number: 9335531
Abstract: LED lighting using optical elements with spectral notching is disclosed. Embodiments of the invention provide an optical element and LED devices and systems using such an optical element, where spectral notch filtering introduced by the optical element improves the color rendering index (CRI) of emitted light. In some embodiments of the invention, the optical element is made to act as a notch filter by including a rare earth compound such as neodymium oxide in or on the material of which the optical element is made. A color pigment can also be used to impart notch-filtering properties to an optical element. An optical interference film can also be used. The optical element may be included in an LED device such as a multichip component or may be used as an enclosure or reflector for an LED lighting system such as a lamp or fixture.

  • Patent number: 9316374
Abstract: A vehicle headlight utilizes a rotationally asymmetric projection lens with its light emitting surface inclined with respect to the optical axis thereof, whereby the light emitted from the light source and projected forward through the light emitting surface of the projection lens is diffused substantially uniformly with respect to the optical axis of the projection lens, for example, uniform substantially in the right and left directions and/or the upper and lower directions. This can be achieved by designing the reflecting surface to have its optical axis inclined with respect to the optical axis of the projection lens by a predetermined angle so that light emitted from the light source and projected forward through the light emitting surface of the projection lens is made uniform with respect to the optical axis of the projection lens (for example, uniform substantially in the right and left directions and/or the upper and lower directions).

  • Patent number: 9279544
Abstract: An LED lighting kit comprises an extrusion, an LED strip, a tapered wedge, and a mounting clip. The clip is sized and shaped to springably engage ledges in a first channel of the extrusion when the strip is mounted. In one aspect, two extrusions are butted end-to-end and are aligned by inserting the tapered wedge into the first channel of each extrusion prior to butting them together. The extrusion contains a second channel that houses the LED strip. A translucent diffuser is springably inserted into the second channel, thereby diffusing light that is emitted by the LED strip. End caps are inserted into the ends of the extrusion to complete the light kit. At least one of the end caps has a hole to admit electrical wires to power the LED strip.
