  • Patent number: 9282502
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling measuring the frequency of a new cell within a forbidden registration area when a User Equipment (UE) enters into the new cell in a mobile communication system are provided. If the UE recognizes the new registration area as forbidden, the UE does not measure the frequency of the current cell for a predetermined reference time, and searches for a suitable cell for a normal service by measuring other frequencies. If no suitable cell in the other frequencies is found, the UE removes a measuring limitation and searches for an acceptable cell for a limited service by measuring frequencies including frequency of the current cell.

  • Patent number: 9282181
Abstract: A mobile device executes a background process under an on demand model that queries a remote service exposed by a mobile broadband network to receive status updates as to the capabilities of devices, such as the ability to stream video, that are associated with contacts that are stored on the mobile device. When a mobile device user invokes an action like using a dialer application that causes a contact to be displayed on the device's user interface (UI) such as in a contact card or contact list format, the background process immediately retrieves status for that contact card or list. While waiting for the status retrieval to complete, the background process will trigger the display of a temporary UI on the mobile device which can show either unknown capabilities status or show the most recently retrieved status that is read out of a cache.

  • Patent number: 9198002
Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure provide peer-to-peer communication of device movements. A first computing device receives a message from a second computing device via a peer-to-peer connection. If the message does not include movement information, the first computing device requests from the second computing device the movement information describing travel of the second computing device. Upon receipt of the movement information over the peer-to-peer connection, the first computing device presents the received message and the received movement information to a user of the first computing device. The movement information may include route, velocity, heading and an estimated time of arrival, and may be periodically updated via additional messages sent to the first computing device. In some embodiments, the first computing device and the second computing device are configured to automatically send and receive movement information without user input.

  • Patent number: 9191799
Abstract: A technique for facilitating the management of a wireless database related to station records and radio-frequency (RF) information by reducing unnecessary sharing of the data among wireless switches, thus enhancing efficiency in a wireless network. A system constructed according to the technique includes a collection of wireless switches with each switch having associated access points (AP), an AP database distributed throughout the collection of wireless switches, and at least one station radio frequency (RF) database. The AP database includes data associated with ownership of the AP's by the switches, and the station RF database includes wireless station information and RF information. AP radio adjacency is determined by whether an AP owned by a specific switch can detect the other AP owned by another switch. The station and RF information database is shared only within the subset of switches that have AP radio adjacency.

  • Patent number: 9185581
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to identifying stale failure reports in a cellular communications network. In one embodiment, a node in a cellular communications network receives a failure report associated with a connection failure for a user equipment and determines when the connection failure occurred with respect to a most recent mobility adjustment made by the node. If the connection failure occurred before the most recent mobility adjustment made by the node, the node classifies the failure report as a stale failure report. In one embodiment, if the failure report is classified as a stale failure report, the node discards the failure. In another embodiment, if the failure report is classified as a stale failure report, the node considers the failure report with reduced relevance for a next iteration of a process to determine whether new mobility adjustments are desired.
