  • Patent number: 5806429
Abstract: In printing machines, especially offset printing machines, an ink profile is produced in the inking unit by means of adjustable dosing devices associated with respective ink zones. A proper production-run state is quickly realized by first implementing a filling process in which the dosing devices are moved into a first filling gap width across the entire breadth of the inking unit. Then the dosing devices are moved briefly into a transitional gap width which deviates more from the first filling gap width than that of the setting for the production-run ink profile. Thereafter, the dosing devices are moved into the setting corresponding to the production-run ink profile.

  • Patent number: 5802920
Abstract: A double gear wheel of a turning device on printing presses comprises an adjustment gear wheel (4). On the adjustment gear wheel a conical seat (7) is formed, which conical seat (7) is engaged in a conical recess (9) formed on the corresponding stationary gear wheel (2), when the two gear wheels (2, 4) are clamped to one another by means of a clamping body (5). The double gear wheel described above has a compact construction, is easy to manufacture with a high degree of precision, and without the requirement for any additional elements essentially guarantees a frictional engagement which reliably prevents the mutual rotation of the two gear wheels (2, 4) during operation of the printing press, even on printing presses which consist of a large number of printing mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 5787813
Abstract: A printing machine, particularly a sheet-fed offset printing machine, which has removable components, such as, in particular, inking-unit, dampening-unit or varnishing-unit rollers, is described. The printing machine includes an arrangement wherein it can be established, particularly via a control station of the printing machine, whether a component and which component is not properly installed. This measure is intended primarily to avoid malfunctions or even machine damage. This is achieved, according to the invention, in that the removable component has a permanent magnet which can be sensed by a sensor mounted fixedly relative to the frame of the printing machine at a point corresponding to the magnetic field produced by the permanent magnet. The signal or signals from one or more sensors are fed to an evaluation unit which determines the proper installation state from these signals.

  • Patent number: 5784991
Abstract: Small lumps of foamed plastic may be used as a shelter for rearing or transporting entomophagous insects. Also disclosed is a container for keeping entomophagous insects, which comprises a hollow body containing small lumps of foamed plastic and provided with one or more holes on its upper surface, the holes being of a size such that the entomophagous insects can pass through them but the small lumps of foamed plastic can not pass through them. This arrangement prevents the entomophagous insects from preying on each other, making it possible to efficiently rear or transport the entomophagous insects, particularly predatory insects such as lacewings, lady beetles and predatory bugs, for use in controlling insects that are harmful to field crops.

  • Patent number: 5784959
Abstract: Hand-held printing apparatus and method are disclosed that provide a replaceable ink cartridge with an ink reservoir defined therein to store wet ink that may typically have a paste like consistency. A piston movable within the ink cartridge is operably connected to the tape spool for compressing the wet ink through a nozzle of the ink cartridge onto the first of a series of printing rollers that smooth out the ink for transfer to a printing roller to effect offset printing of a desired image onto the adhesive side of clear adhesive tape. The cartridge is provided in a low cost throw away package for disposal after the ink is depleted. Multiple color logos or images can be printed by using two to four different color ink cartridges.

  • Patent number: 5765480
Abstract: In a wiping device of an intaglio printing press in which a doctor blade can follow the movement of a wiping roller through a cam mechanism, a holder for the doctor blade is supported on a tank on the machine body side by long holes, formed in the holder in its right-and-left direction and elongated in its back-and-forth direction, and flanged pin members, passing through the long holes, so as to be movable in the directions of throw-on and throw-off movement of the doctor blade. The rightward and leftward movements of the holder are restrained by the long hole and pin member located at one site in the center of the holder. Thus, the doctor blade can fully follow the cocking of the wiping roller, and there are no problems due to the penetration of a solvent or ink.
