Abstract: The present invention is directed to a material which can be used to deliver a drug, such as an antibiotic, into a diseased tissue pocket, such as a periodontal pocket. The material is preferably a bioerodible oligomer or polymer. The oligomer or polymer containing the drug is heated and is then delivered, preferably by injection, into the tissue pocket at a physiologically compatible elevated temperature. Once the bioerodible material is injected into the pocket, the material cools to the body temperature of the pocket. As it cools, the material hardens and remains in place in the tissue pocket. The hardened material bioerodes in the pocket and releases the drug over a period of several days.

Abstract: The present invention is a process for forming a low density compression dosage unit to provide increased strength. The process of the present invention includes compacting under bi-level compaction pressure to provide a continuous-volume dosage unit which has a first volume defining an edge portion of the unit and a density which is greater than a density of a second volume defining a non-edge portion of the unit. The present invention also includes the product resulting from the process and apparatus used to make such units.

Abstract: A method is provided for making fast dissolving storage stable tablets by compression on standard high speed tablet production machinery wherein the formulation contains a carbohydrate having a special particle size and/or structure, in combination with controlled amounts of a transitory liquid as a lubricant, which liquid is removed following compression.
Abstract: Antimicrobial metal-based compositions, which are photostable, non-staining, and which are easily absorbed into lipophilic matrices, contain silver cations, complexed by acyclic polyether polymers through the formation of a "host-guest relationship" where the acyclic polyether is the "host" and the silver cation is the "guest," wherein stabilization of this "host-guest relationship" is accomplished through the use of excess anions. The compositions are useful for topical treatment of infections caused by bacteria, fungus and viruses in humans and animals and for treating medical devices, foams and adhesives to impart infection-resistance.
Abstract: An improved embalming composition and method has been developed. The embalming fluid is a mixture including glutaraldehyde, an aromatic ether of ethanol, e.g. phenoxy-ethanol, at least one alcohol, and a polyhydric alcohol humectant. The formulation has no formaldehyde.
Abstract: Stable, single phase w/o aerosol microemulsion final use compositions containing a sprayable agriculturally active composition are described herein.

Abstract: An air purification agent comprising a salt consisting essentially of hydrazine and one or more metal salts of Ni, Al, Zn, and Ti or comprising a shaped body of chain magnesium silicate as a carrier and a salt consisting essentially of the above metal salt and hydrazine supported thereon, the air purification agent being produced by immersing a chain magnesium silicate in a mixed aqueous solution of the above metal salt and hydrazine, then drying, whereby a salt of the metal salt and hydrazine is supported thereon or by immersing a chain magnesium silicate in an aqueous solution of the metal salt, immersing it in an aqueous solution of hydrazine, then drying, whereby a salt of the metal salt and hydrazine is caused to precipitate to support the same thereon.
Abstract: A drug formulation of tramadol or a tramadol salt in orally administrable tablet form containing at least one pharmaceutically acceptable matrixing agent is disclosed from which a non-moisture sensitive, physiologically acceptable tramadol salt is sustained released.
Abstract: Fatty acid amides, but not free fatty acids or fatty acid esters, in combination with either retinol or retinyl ester resulted in a synergistic enhancement in keratinocyte proliferation and synergistic inhibition of keratinocyte differentiation. The effects of the retinol or retinyl esters in combination with fatty acid amides were analogous to treatment with retinoic acid.

Abstract: An apparatus and process for administering minerals to the human body by mixing pre-selected particulated minerals with graphite and coal tar to form a bar (10a), vaporizing the bar (10a) to form a mineral rich vapor, and directing the vapor to a patient's skin using an enclosure (30).
Abstract: Since the present invention is composed of required component capable of changing in color with which a daily product and so on are impregnated, painted or printed, such daily product is convenient in daily life by indicating a contact between the required component and urine and so on.
Abstract: The compound of the invention comprises a combination of four ingredients: a superabsorbent polymer, particularly sodium polyacrylate; a chemical disinfectant, particularly potassium peroxymonosulfate; an organic deodorant, particularly from herbal extracts; and a chelating agent, particularly malic acid. This blood gelifying compound can be used by medical staff in surgery rooms and the like, when wasted blood from the patient is collected in waste bags, to solidify the fluid inside the bag so as to prevent accidental leaks and contamination. Urine or blood spills, which are often accidentally spilled on the hospital floors, can also be recuperated and disposed of in a timely fashion with the present compound, so as not to compromise the hygienic integrity of the hospital.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a skin treating composition containing vitamin E; a blend comprising acetylated monoglyceride and polyoxyethylene fatty acid ester; a blend comprising distilled monoglyceride, distilled propylene glycol monoester, and sodium or calcium stearoyl lactylate; water; and oxidized cellulose. The skin treating composition reduces inflammation, swelling, and itching, and reduces formation of scars in the tissue.
Abstract: Carriers comprising silica-based glass providing for the controlled release of biologically active molecules, their methods of preparation, and methods of use are disclosed. The carriers are prepared using a sol-gel-derived process. Biologically active molecules are incorporated within the matrix of the glass during production.
