  • Patent number: 6168096
Abstract: A fuel injection device for internal combustion engines which under the control of a control unit supplies fuel injection valves with fuel from a high-pressure fuel source. The fuel injection valve has an injection valve member, whose opening and closing position is determined by a pressure acting upon the injection valve member set in a control chamber. To perform an injection, the pressure in the control chamber must be relieved, which is accomplished with a control valve that opens two different outflow cross sections of an outflow conduit of the control chamber in succession. It is thus possible to accomplish an adapted opening of a fuel injection valve member for a preinjection and a main injection.

  • Patent number: 6164382
Abstract: A device and a method for explosive quenching of fires are indicated, for example forest and area fires. The quenching device contains two flexible hoses (1, 2) disposed next to one another and transversely to the direction of risk (5), and closable at both ends, for accommodating quenching agents, and in each case an explosive (3, 4) in or on the hoses (1, 2) atomizes the quenching agent by its ignition to form a mist, which is applied to the fire. In order to achieve a directed ejection of the quenching agent in the direction of the area of risk, the pulse (I.sub.1) which emerges from the first hose (1) facing way from the area of risk is greater than the pulse (I2) emerging from the second hose (2) facing the area of risk. For differing hose diameters, dimensioning of the quantities of explosive in relation to the diameter of the associated hose is effected taking into account the density (of the quenching agent according to a formula according to the invention.

  • Patent number: 6164569
Abstract: A flexible shower arm assembly that allows the user to repeatably adjust the position of the shower head in three dimensions by configuring the shape of the shower arm attached between the water source, such as a shower pipe, and the water dispenser, such as a shower head. The particular position of the shower head, and the direction of the shower spray, can be modified by re-configuring the shape of the shower arm. The flexible shower arm holds the desired position until modified by the user. The flexible shower arm is sealingly attached to the shower pipe by a pipe connector nut, and is sealingly and pivotally attached to the shower head by a connection structure. The flexible shower arm assembly includes an elongated flexible member defining a fluid transfer path, the flexible member having a first end and an opposite second end.

  • Patent number: 6164561
Abstract: By provision of paint cartridges of different colors which are detachably mounted on a coating system, the paint can be changed from one color to another in a multi-color coating operation without necessitating to discharge residues of a previous color. The paint cartridge of each color is replaceably mounted on a housing. Each cartridge is provided with a paint valve (46) which functions to communicate and shut off a paint supply passage in a feed tube. In addition, a thinner valve which serves to communicate and shut off a thinner passage on the housing is provided either on the side of the housing or on the side of the cartridge. These arrangements make it possible to cope with multiple color changes on one coating system. Since both of the paint valve and thinner valve are opened and closed by spray-on and spray-off command signals, respectively, the paint spray can be turned on and off immediately in response to these command signals.

  • Patent number: 6161624
Abstract: A linear fire extinguisher system is described that includes a flexible, substantially closed plastic tube containing an extinguishant, the tube containing a multiplicity of selectively weakened pre-scored orifices at preselected spacing along the tube length, whereby sufficient heat from a fire contacting the tube will weaken and rupture the tube predictably and facilitate efficient discharge of the extinguishant directly onto the fire. The structure of the invention may include two coaxial inner and outer tubes, each tube containing extinguishant wherein the outer tube may initially rupture upon heating and discharge extinguishant onto the fire, the inner tube being available for rupture and discharge onto the fire upon re-ignition or if the discharge of the outer tube is insufficient to extinguish the fire.

  • Patent number: 6161769
Abstract: Method and apparatus for making snow by generating water spray from a triple array of multiple nozzle sub-boom branch-pipes transversely protruding from the upper end of a main boom of a pivotably adjustable snow making pipe tower. Three air jet streams, one for each branch pipe, are simultaneously discharged under high pressure into and sequentially through the throats of each associated multiple stack of water sprays issuing from each set of branch pipe nozzles to thereby form multiple spray plumes of atomized and seeded water all directed forwardly from the upper end of the tower pipe. The water pipe may be an elliptical aluminum extrusion with two interior air tubes respectively controllably feeding large and small diameter air jet arrays to thereby provide a range of air jet water spray interaction.
