  • Patent number: 5974323
Abstract: A frequency allocation plan for a wireless communication system that accommodates growth in demand from a low density reuse pattern of twelve cells to a high efficiency reuse pattern of three cells. The available radio spectrum is first divided into three ranges and each range is further divided into four groups. The frequencies in each range are sequentially assigned to the four groups, and the groups are further identified as even and/or odd index groups. The twelve cell groups are laid out in rectangular shapes of four cells across by three cells high, with a first set of three cells in the upper left portion being assigned to use a first even index frequency group. A second group of three cells in a lower left portion are assigned to use a second even index frequency group. A third and fourth group of three cells associated with upper right and lower right positions are assigned the first and second odd index frequency group.

  • Patent number: 5970935
Abstract: The assembly comprises a flexible bulb 12 defining a pumping chamber 14 and secured at opposite ends by bands 34 to inlet and outlet housings 26. An inlet check valve 18 is supported by an inlet valve wall 38, which is, in turn, supported in a recess 36 in the inlet housing, to control fuel flow to the pumping chamber 14 while preventing reverse fuel flow out of the pumping chamber 14. An outlet check valve 22 is supported by an outlet valve wall 52 which is, in turn, supported in a recess 36 in the outlet housing for controlling fuel flow from the pumping chamber 14 while preventing reverse flow from the outlet housing into the pumping chamber 14. The assembly is characterized by a pressure relief valve, generally shown at 24, disposed between the inlet and the pumping chamber 14 for allowing fuel under a predetermined pressure in the pumping chamber 14 to reverse flow into the inlet. The opposite ends differ only by the inlet valve wall 38 supporting the relief valve 24.

  • Patent number: 5970964
Abstract: A circuit is provided in which a voltage due to a minute current is applied to a gate terminal from a collector terminal when a collector voltage is higher than a gate voltage in an operation of current limitation. Thus, an increase in the collector voltage immediately after the operation of current limitation starts serves to boost the gate voltage. The boosted voltage suppress an abrupt increase in the collector voltage. When the collector voltage is reduced by oscillation, the action of boosting the gate voltage is lowered to suppress the reduction of the collector voltage.

  • Patent number: 5960338
Abstract: A system and method in a radio telecommunications network having a home location register (HLR) and a serving mobile switching center (MSC) of preventing fraudulent long distance calls from a subscriber's mobile station by selectively barring the mobile station from accessing the network when an indication of fraud exists. The system sends from the serving MSC to the HLR, an indication of a long distance call origination from the subscriber's mobile station, starts a timer, increments a counter which counts long distance call originations, and determines whether the number of long distance call originations exceeds a predetermined threshold. The system allows the long distance call upon determining that the number of long distance call originations does not exceed the predetermined threshold. The system further determines whether a time period threshold has been exceeded, upon determining that the number of long distance call originations exceeds the predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 5946621
Abstract: System and method for optimally updating a neighbor set for use by a mobile unit during soft handoff of the mobile unit in a CDMA cellular telephone environment is disclosed. A two-step process is used to ensure that the individual neighbor sets of active set members are combined in a manner such that only pilots representing the more important sectors are included in the updated neighbor set and pilots representing the less important sectors are excluded therefrom. In the first step, active set members whose RTD is more than twice as great as an OWD threshold are eliminated from consideration. In the second step, the neighbor set of the mobile unit is updated using the sectors included in the individual neighbor sets of the active set members that were not excluded by the first step, wherein those sectors are included in the updated neighbor set according to the number of individual sets in which they are found and their priority within those sets.

  • Patent number: 5934249
Abstract: The EGR gas flow is established based on the difference between an assumed value and a control target value of non-air components partial pressure calculated from target control values such as engine torque and at the same time the intake air flow passing through a throttle valve is established based on the difference between an assumed value and a control target value of air components partial pressure and based on the air components within EGR gas. Further, based on thus established EGR gas flow and the intake manifold pressure, the operating amount of an EGR actuator is calculated and based on thus established air flow passing through the throttle valve, the operating amount of an throttle actuator is obtained. Further, based on an estimated value of air components partial pressure, a final basic fuel injection amount is determined.

  • Patent number: 5930702
Abstract: The invention provides a mobile communication system in a network that receives a location schedule from a subscriber and directs a call to the subscriber based on the location schedule. The network may include a telephone network, a data network and a cable network interconnected together. Each of the networks connects to communication devices. For example, the cable network is connected to fixed location devices such as cable units conventionally provided to cable subscribers. The fixed location devices may be connected to communication devices such as televisions, stereos or mailboxes. When a subscriber location schedule indicates that the subscriber is reachable at a specific fixed location device, the mobility system pages the subscriber at the specific fixed location device when a call is received for the subscriber during the specified date and time found in the location schedule.

  • Patent number: 5927075
Abstract: A system for controlling exhaust gas recirculation flow rates and power augmentation of a turbocharged internal combustion engine operating on diesel fuel or other fuels. Exhaust gas from the engine's exhaust manifold is used to drive the turbocharger. Exhaust gas exiting from the turbocharger is directed through a filter trap. A first portion of the exhaust gas exiting the filter trap flows through an exhaust gas recirculation cooler to provide a first input to an electronically controlled diverter valve. Filtered intake air is supplied as a second input to the electronically controlled diverter valve. A mixed output of intake air and recirculated exhaust gas is directed from the diverter valve to an electrically driven compressor and then to the intake manifold of the diesel engine.

  • Patent number: 5924405
Abstract: An improved apparatus and method for controlling fuel injection in an internal combustion engine. The engine includes main-injection valves for directly injecting fuel into corresponding combustion chambers and a sub-injection valve for injecting fuel into a surge tank. The engine is able to perform a plurality of fuel injection modes. An ECU selects a homogeneous fuel injection mode, in which the injected fuel is evenly mixed with air supplied into the combustion chamber, from the plurality of fuel injection modes when the engine is being cranked and fuel injected from the main-injection valve will not adequately vaporize in the combustion chamber. The ECU controls the first and second injection valves according to the selected fuel injection mode. This improves engine starting and increases fuel efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5926746
Abstract: A novel and improved method and system for reducing the bandwidth requirements of satellite or wireless communication networks is described. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a training sequence is transmitted over a training channel from a terminal to a master station. The master station measures a frequency error of the training sequence, and provides the frequency error to the terminal. The terminal adjusts its transmit frequency by the frequency error, offsetting all further data channel transmissions by the frequency error.

  • Patent number: 5924412
Abstract: An engine is provided with a dual cooling system having a head-side cooling water passage formed in a cylinder head, through which a cooling water can be circulated, and a block-side cooling water passage formed in a cylinder block, through which a cooling water can be circulated, in which a block-side circulation can be stopped without stopping a head-side circulation. An exhaust gas recirculation control device for such engine comprises a temperature sensor for detecting a temperature of the cooling water circulating the head-side passage (THW); and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system for supplying an EGR gas to the engine. The EGR system performs the supply of the EGR gas when the cooling water temperature (THW) is higher than a predetermined temperature (THE), and stops the supply of the EGR gas when the cooling water temperature (THW) is lower than the predetermined temperature (THE).
