Abstract: Techniques are provided for small file aggregation in a parallel computing system. An exemplary method for storing a plurality of files generated by a plurality of processes in a parallel computing system comprises aggregating the plurality of files into a single aggregated file; and generating metadata for the single aggregated file. The metadata comprises an offset and a length of each of the plurality of files in the single aggregated file. The metadata can be used to unpack one or more of the files from the single aggregated file.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the invention relate to an apparatus and a method of managing a snapshot storage pool (SSP) associated with a storage unit of a distributed data storage system. One apparatus includes a logic module and a processor. The logic module is adapted to provide a threshold corresponding to a ratio between a current amount of storage resources used for storing snapshots in the SSP and a total storage capacity defined for the SSP. The processor is adapted to trigger an action that may be effective for managing the SSP in response to the amount of storage resources used for storing snapshots in the SSP crossing the threshold.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for resolving ambiguous queries. A search query is received and metrics are identified for the query that are associated with respective categories. Each metric indicates a user preference for search results that are responsive to the query and associated with the metric's respective category. The identified metrics are used to determine whether the query is ambiguous. Responsive to determining that the query is ambiguous, the identified metrics are used to determine a user preference for one or more categories of search results responsive to the ambiguous query. Search results associated with the one or more user preferred categories are ranked higher than search results that are not associated with the one or more user preferred categories.

Abstract: The invention pertains to methods, systems, and apparatus for identifying media items relevant to a selected subject matter, the method comprising determining the subject matter of a first media item, the first media item comprising at least one of audio content and video content, determining the classification within an ontology of the subject matter of the first media item, analyzing the ontology to identify other subject matter related to the subject matter of the first media item, and performing a search for other media items relevant to the subject matter of the first media item as a function of at least the other related subject matter according to the ontology.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for distributing content pursuant to audit-based processes. Audit content in runtime workpapers may be dynamically constructed in response to industry-driven and response-driven rules using information from one or more of the distributed content libraries. Dynamic updates may also be provided for generated runtime workpapers constructed from the distributed content. The system and method may also provide drilldown functionality for enabling a user to view a source workpaper for a specified data value which has flowed into the generated dynamic workpaper and/or tip functionality to provide a user with additional guidance based on the status and data associated with the generated workpaper.

Abstract: Documents written using a markup language such as XML may be decomposed into Path and Parent Associated Node (PPAN) elements, each of which is a linear data structure that includes the content of a node, the parent-child relationship of the node, and the path level of the node. A number of PPAN elements may be grouped together to form A PPAN chain. A PPAN matching process uses the PPAN elements/PPAN chain to search for structured documents that match the PPAN chain. The PPAN matching process is able to perform query and match at the same time to accelerate the PPAN matching process, and also enables complex services to be represented by generic structured documents. Optionally, the PPAN matching process may support wildcard requests so that services may be discovered without prior knowledge of the services.

The content management system receives data about entities from originators associated with the entities. The content management system classifies the data and stores the classified data. The content management system may authenticate the data by determining an authenticator of the classified data. The authenticator may be the most appropriate person to authenticate the data. The content management system may determine an authenticator by determining the entity most related to the classified data and determining an originator representing or designated to authenticate the information. As such, the content management system may determine the originator in the best position to authenticate the data. The content management system may also receive a request from subscribers for content and create the content in response to the request.

Abstract: A method is provided for determining a correlation between a reference user and another user on the basis of two sets of ratings, where each rating is associated with a respective user. In response to a trigger, user ratings associated with the reference user and user ratings associated with the other user are collected, and all co-rated items of these two sets are correlated in the basis of an adjusted cosine correlation function which is weighted by a first and a second weighting function. The correlation is then stored and may be repeated for a plurality of users. The stored correlations may be used e.g. for ranking purposes.

Abstract: A distributed database synchronization capability is provided herein. The distributed database synchronization capability may be implemented using one or more of a timer-based scheme and a token-based scheme. The distributed database synchronization capability enables synchronization of databases of nodes in various types of networks, including dynamic networks (e.g., such as rapidly deployable wireless networks) and various other types of networks. The synchronization of databases may include synchronization of databases as a whole and/or portions of databases (which may include any suitable database table or tables). The distributed database synchronization capability enables synchronization of databases of nodes under various dynamic conditions (e.g., synchronization of databases of nodes within a cluster of nodes, synchronization of databases of nodes between clusters of nodes, synchronization of databases of nodes by administrative domain, and the like).

Abstract: One embodiment provides a system for comparing documents based on different document-similarity calculation methods using adaptive weighting. During operation, the system receives at least two document-similarity values associated with two documents, wherein the document-similarity values are calculated by different document-similarity calculation methods. The system then determines the weight of a respective document-similarity calculation method for each of the two documents, as well as a weight-combination function for calculating a combined weight of the respective document-similarity calculation method associated with the two documents. Next, the system generates a combined similarity value based on the document-similarity values and the weight-combination function.

Abstract: A method and a system are disclosed for querying a document collection based on the layout of only a fragment of the content of a document, specified as a query zone. The method includes providing an index for a collection of documents. In the index, content of a document page in the collection that has been decomposed into layout blocks is indexed according to representations of the blocks and one or more geometric relations between the blocks. A query is generated which is based on representations of blocks determined to be within the query zone and geometric relations between them. This is used to query the index to retrieve pages of documents in the collection which can each be expected to include a layout zone somewhere in the page that is similar in layout to the query zone.
