  • Patent number: 9485702
Abstract: In systems and methods of wireless device communication using carrier priority, it is determined for a wireless device using a lower priority carrier that a signal strength of a higher priority carrier meets a signal strength criteria. It is further determined that a loading of the higher priority carrier meets a loading criteria. When the loading meets the loading criteria and the signal strength meets the signal strength criteria, a handover is performed of the wireless device from the lower priority carrier to the higher priority carrier.

  • Patent number: 9215745
Abstract: Using the feature named “KEY_SEARCH_AD1” in the Atheros 11n chipset, an access point can determine whether to send an ACK packet in response to a message packet in response to whether the BSSID present in the sender address is present in the keycache. The AP can maintain a list of about 128 arbitrarily selected BSSID's, to each of which it will respond with an ACK packet if it receives a message from a mobile station with that BSSID. (1) the number of mobile stations that can be assigned to that AP is relatively greater. (2) the selection of those BSSID's is no longer constrained by having to match the AP's BSSID using a mask. With selection of those BSSID's being no longer so constrained, it is easier to assign BSSID's to mobile stations while allowing those mobile stations to roam among multiple AP's.

  • Patent number: 9191869
Abstract: A device receives a default cell handoff parameter set from a base station within a cellular network. The device receives a modified handoff parameter set, wherein the modified handoff parameter set is different than the default cell handoff parameter set, and tests a mobile device in different geographic locations served by the base station, using the modified handoff parameter set, to measure one or more network/call service parameters associated with handoff of the mobile device to a neighboring cell. The device identifies optimum modified handoff parameters for the mobile device based on the measured one or more network/call service parameters.

  • Patent number: 9179399
Abstract: A mobile communication device identifies and selects a wireless local area network (WLAN) available for communications in its coverage area. Automatically, without detecting any requests made by a user via a browser application. The mobile device initiates a request (e.g. an HTTP GET request) to a predetermined server site of a communication network which is outside of the WLAN. In response to initiating the request, the mobile device receives a response message via the WLAN and identifies, from the response message, whether the request to the predetermined server site has been redirected to a redirect server site. The WLAN may be a WLAN “hotspot,” where the redirect server site is a login server. The identifying may be performed by comparing content from the response message to predetermined content of the predetermined server site. In response to identifying that the request has been redirected, the mobile device causes an indication to be produced at its user interface.

  • Patent number: 9137690
Abstract: A mapper for use in processing messages captured from a telecommunications network is disclosed. In one embodiment, one or more LTE messages are received from a LTE network, and one or more CDMA messages are received from a CDMA network. An LTE/CDMA mapper entry associated with the LTE and CDMA messages is identified. The LTE/CDMA mapper is associated with UE that is capable of operating on both the LTE and CDMA networks. The LTE and CDMA messages are processed using the LTE/CDMA mapper. The processing of the LTE and CDMA messages may comprise extracting parameters from the LTE or CDMA messages and storing the parameters to the LTE/CDMA mapper. The content in the LTE or CDMA messages may be deciphered using authentication parameters stored in the LTE/CDMA mapper. A generic client library may be used, for example, to access the LTE/CDMA mapper.

  • Patent number: 8995993
Abstract: The Aircraft Mobile IP Address System provides wireless communication services to passengers who are located onboard an aircraft by storing data indicative of the individually identified wireless devices located onboard the aircraft. The System assigns a single IP address to each Point-to-Point Protocol link which connects the aircraft network to the ground-based communication network but also creates an IP subnet onboard the aircraft. The IP subnet utilizes a plurality of IP addresses for each Point-to-Point link thereby to enable each passenger wireless device to be uniquely identified with their own IP address. This is enabled since both Point-to-Point Protocol IPCP endpoints have pre-defined IP address pools and/or topology configured; each Point-to-Point Protocol endpoint can utilize a greater number of IP addresses than one per link. Such an approach does not change IPCP or other EVDO protocols/messaging but does allow this address to be directly visible to the ground-based communication network.

  • Patent number: 8989084
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described where loading information regarding loading conditions at a neighboring base station is received at a first base station and then communicated, e.g., broadcast, by the first base station to mobiles within the cell in which the first base station is located. Since the neighbor base station's loading information is being communicated to a mobile currently connected to the first base station via a reliable communications channel of the first base station, the mobile can be expected to be able to reliably recover loading factor information corresponding to not only the first base station but to the neighboring base station. By utilizing such loading factor information, the mobile can generate an improved uplink interference report. The first base station receives such interference reports from wireless terminals in its cell, facilitating efficient resource allocation and interference control.

  • Patent number: 8855639
Abstract: A handover performing method and a method of allocating a connection identifier (CID) at the time of handover are disclosed. The method includes transmitting a handover request message to a serving base station, and receiving a handover response message including CID update information used in a target base station from the serving base station. At this time, the CID update information may include a transport CID (TCID) allocation start position and a TCID allocable value used in the target base station. Accordingly, it is possible to minimize service delay of a mobile station by providing a method of updating the CID of the mobile station for performing fast handover.
