  • Patent number: 9748899
Abstract: The present invention provides an amplitude modulator, which is disposed in an area through which a magnetic field flows so as to modulate amplitudes, comprising: a substrate; a first driving electrode which receives a first frequency signal and a second frequency signal supplied from the substrate and carries out resonant motion by the magnetic field; and a second driving electrode for receiving the second frequency signal and carries out resonant motion by the first driving electrode and the magnetic field, wherein a modulated signal is generated by modulating the amplitudes of the first and second frequency signals through the resonant motions of the first and second driving electrodes. Therefore, since the signal generated by modulating a carrier signal through mechanical resonance according to the magnetic field is outputted, amplitude modulation can be carried out without a complicated circuit configuration.

  • Patent number: 9739851
Abstract: A nano-oscillator magnetic wave propagation system has a group of aggregated spin-torque nano-oscillators (ASTNOs), which share a magnetic propagation material. Each of the group of ASTNOs is disposed about an emanating point in the magnetic propagation material. During a non-wave propagation state of the nano-oscillator magnetic wave propagation system, the magnetic propagation material receives a polarizing magnetic field. During a wave propagation state of the nano-oscillator magnetic wave propagation system, each of the group of ASTNOs initiates spin waves through the magnetic propagation material, such that a portion of the spin waves initiated from each of the group of ASTNOs combine to produce an aggregation of spin waves emanating from the emanating point. The aggregation of spin waves may provide a sharper wave front than wave fronts of the individual spin waves initiated from each of the group of ASTNOs.

  • Patent number: 9735792
Abstract: Embodiments of an integrated circuit (IC) comprising circuitry to determine settings for an injection-locked oscillator (ILO) are described. In some embodiments, an injection signal is generated based on a first clock edge of a reference clock signal, and is injected into an ILO. Next, one or more output signals of the ILO are sampled based on a second clock edge of the reference clock signal, and settings for the ILO are determined based on the samples. In some embodiments, a sequence of two or more time-to-digital (TDC) codes is generated based on a reference clock signal and a free-running ILO. In some embodiments, the TDC circuitry that is already present in a delay-locked loop is reused for determining the sequence of two or more TDC codes. The ILO settings can then be determined based on the sequence of two or more TDC codes.

  • Patent number: 9722539
Abstract: A phase-locked loop circuit comprises a multi-phase oscillator having a plurality of coupled oscillators. A calibration module detects mismatches between frequency characteristics of the different oscillators in the phase-locked loop circuit during a calibration process. The calibration module then calibrates the various oscillators to compensate for the detected mismatch. Once calibrated, the phase-locked loop circuit can operate with little or no performance degradation despite the mismatch in frequency characteristics between the different oscillators.

  • Patent number: 9716406
Abstract: A photovoltaic system has a plurality of subsystems, each with a photovoltaic generator and an associated inverter. The inverter has a control element for setting the maximum power point of its subsystem. A battery is connectible in parallel with the photovoltaic generator. The inverters are connectible to a power grid, which is operated by a utility operator. When a control device receives an emergency signal from the utility operator indicating impending instability of the grid, the following is initiated: If the battery voltage is above the current voltage as set by the MPP control element, the battery is immediately connected to the input of the inverter while the generator remains connected to the inverter. If the battery voltage is below the current voltage the battery connection is delayed until the MPP control element has adjusted the voltage. Then the voltage is further lowered to generate a discharge current from the battery.

  • Patent number: 9706621
Abstract: Lighting control interface techniques and corresponding circuitry are provided. The techniques include receiving a first signal potentially representative of a first lighting control signal, and receiving a second signal potentially representative of a second lighting control signal, and determining if either of the first and second signals complies with a first or second lighting control protocol. The lighting control signal may be applied to the same interface connector (regardless of the protocol), thereby eliminating the need for separate dedicated interface connectors. In some cases, the techniques further include determining that a dummy control signal is manifesting in the first and/or second signals, thereby indicating that no lighting control signal is being applied. Depending on the resulting determination, the techniques may include, for example, setting output lighting power according to a pre-established value, or according to the first or second lighting control protocol.

  • Patent number: 9698727
Abstract: A two-walled coupled inductor includes an outer wall and an inner wall separated by a slit. The outer wall has a first width and the inner wall has a second width. The inner wall and the outer wall may be configured to be coupled to oscillator circuitry. The two-walled coupled inductor may include an electrically conductive stub coupled to the outer wall to be coupled to a power supply. A common mode current flows through the outer wall, and the stub if one is present, and a differential mode current flows through both the outer wall and the inner wall, but not the stub. The first and second widths, and dimensions of the stub, may be sized to increase an inductance of the common mode compared to an inductance of the differential mode, thereby reducing phase noise of the inductor-based resonator.
