  • Patent number: 6624572
Abstract: An organic EL display panel has a multi-layered structure in which a first electrode and a second electrode are formed on a transparent panel and an organic EL layer is formed between the first and second electrodes. A method for sealing the organic EL display panel includes the steps of forming a buffer layer of an organic matter such as silicon oxide and silicon nitride on the transparent panel, and locating a shield cover on the buffer layer. Thus, adhesive strength between the panel and an adhesive is enhanced to prevent external humidity and oxygen from being permeated into the panel, thereby increasing life span of the display.

  • Patent number: 6623140
Abstract: A flashlight having multiple light sources that may be actuated by a user. A first light source located at or near a first end of the flashlight provides a concentrated, linear beam of light from a head module that is generally parallel with the flashlight when the first light source is actuated. A reflector focuses the beam of light. A second light source in combination with a reflector located a tail module, which is at or near a second end of the flashlight, provides radial illumination with respect to the tail module when the second light source is actuated. The reflector diffuses illumination at the tail module. A switching mechanism enables a user to selectively actuate or deactuate the first and/or second light sources.

  • Patent number: 6619820
Abstract: An optical coupling element for use in large numerical aperture collecting and condensing systems. The optical coupling element includes a lens having a curved surface and a tapered light pipe. The curved surface reduces the angle of incidence of the light striking the input end of the optical coupling element such that the Fresnel reflection is greatly reduced. Electromagnetic radiation emitted by a source is collected and focused onto a target by positioning the source of electromagnetic radiation at a first focal point of a first reflector so that the source produces rays of radiation reflected from the first reflector that converge at a second focal point of the second reflector. The optical coupling element is positioned so that a center of the lens is substantially proximate with the second focal point of the second reflector and the curved surface is between the second reflector and the center.

  • Patent number: 6605893
Abstract: A vacuum container for a flat image display apparatus includes a rear substrate having an electron-emitting device mounted thereon, a face substrate arranged to face the rear substrate, having thereon a phosphor emitting light when the electron emitted from the electron-emitting device collides therewith, and an outer frame arranged between the dace substrate and the rear substrate. For this vacuum container, the outer frame is provided with a plurality of frame members. With the structure thus arranged, this vacuum container contributes significantly to manufacturing a light weight, but highly robust flat image display apparatus at lower cost. By providing a plurality of frame members for the outer frame portion, thinner substrates can be utilized with a good sealing mechanism, while securing the sufficient robustness of the edge circumference of the vacuum container.
