  • Patent number: 11871936
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to devices, systems and methods adapted for implementing intermittent displacement of blood to mitigate peripheral nerve neuropathy such as that induced by chemotherapeutic agents (i.e., chemotherapy-induced neuropathy (CIN)) that are administered to a patient. Such devices, systems and methods advantageously provide for precise, uniform and controlled blood flow occluding (and optionally blood displacing) compression along irregular surfaces of an appendage of a patient. Such precise, uniform and controlled blood occluding compression is imparted upon the epidermal and dermis skin layers within the aforementioned areas of a patient's extremities to decrease the time that free nerve endings located in the epidermal and encapsulated nerve endings located in the dermis skin layers are exposed to nerve damaging chemotherapy chemicals, thereby substantially decreasing CIN caused by prolonged exposure to such chemicals.

  • Patent number: 11826502
Abstract: An oxygenator with a housing wall, which delimits a housing space with a blood inlet and a blood outlet, a gas inlet and a gas outlet, has a heating element which is arranged in the oxygenator between blood inlet and blood outlet in order to control the temperature of blood flowing through the housing space. For this purpose, the oxygenator has a radiation source and a receiver. The radiation source can be an infrared emitter and the receiver a matte-black surface, or the radiation source is an induction coil and the receiver has a material capable of induction. In a method for regulating the heat output on a heating element of an oxygenator, the through-flow of the blood through the oxygenator and the power of a pump acting on the through-flow are measured, and the heating power is adjusted in accordance therewith.

  • Patent number: 11806490
Abstract: The present invention provides a cerebrospinal fluid shunt system that monitors the intracranial pressures over a portion of a monitoring cycle to calculate short intervals of drainage for every monitoring cycle necessary to produce the desired pressure correction. The system operates to significantly reduce the time during which draining occurs allowing tissue surrounding the catheter to rebound from the catheter holes returning to its normal position for a sufficient amount of time to recover its normal shape.

  • Patent number: 11724067
Abstract: A flexible, polymer sleeve is provided that is everted into a body passageway in such a manner as to exert minimal rubbing friction on the internal walls of such passageway. The sleeve is housed within a tube assembly comprising a posterior tube that telescopingly slides into an insertion tube. The sleeve everts over the insertion tube, upon forward pressure applied thereon, as it extends forward into a body passageway, and consequently, causes the posterior tube to retract into the insertion tube. Multiple tubes can be telescoped to support the polymer sleeve and to keep a passageway open for the expelling of urine or body fluids, the insertion of tools, sanitation/antibacterial substances, or for the flow of liquids through the sleeve. The insertion tube can be locked in reference to the sleeve to prevent unintended removal of catheter assembly. Sleeve and tubing are removed by reversing the insertion and eversion movements.

  • Patent number: 11712507
Abstract: A manifold for a medical/surgical waste collection system. An outlet opening and a fitting are in fluid communication with a manifold volume within a housing. The fitting receives a suction line. A filter element with porous features is disposed within the housing such that a fluid communication path is established across the filter element. The porous features trap material entrained within the fluid. A material collection volume is at least partially distal to and below a bottom of the filter element. As the fluid and the material is drawn through the fluid communication path, the material collects within the material collection volume. A flow diverter may be positioned within the housing for directing the material towards the material collection volume. The material collection volume may be at least partially defined by a tissue trap removably coupled to the housing.
