  • Patent number: 11633525
Abstract: A system for calculating cardiac output (CO) of a patient undergoing veno-arterial extracorporeal oxygenation includes measuring first oxygenated blood flow rate by a pump in the extracorporeal blood oxygenation circuit as introduced into an arterial portion of the patient circulation system and a corresponding arterial oxygen saturation, then changing the pump flow rate, such as decreasing, to produce a corresponding change in arterial oxygen saturation (wherein such change is outside of normal operating variances, operating errors or drift), which change in the arterial oxygen saturation is measured. From the first flow rate and the second flow rate along with the corresponding measured arterial oxygen saturation, the CO of the patient can be calculated, without reliance upon a measure of venous oxygen saturation.

  • Patent number: 11589844
Abstract: The urine collection insert, or infant urine collector, is an insert for placement inside a typical diaper. Placement of the insertion preferably occurs with the first diapering after birth. The infant's urine is channeled into a portal, through a one-way valve, and into a reservoir. Coincident with the next diaper change, the insert is collected and the urine withdrawn for testing. Throughout the process, all chain-of-custody requirements being followed. The design of the urine collection insert prevents contamination from the infant's feces, most likely to be meconium—the feces of a newborn formed from epithelial cells, lanugo (hair), mucus, amniotic fluid, bile, and water. By avoiding contamination, the integrity of the sample will be maintained and accuracy of results increased, whether positive or negative.

  • Patent number: 11583670
Abstract: A catheter directionally conducts a pulsating body fluid and has a line segment defining an inner volume. A pump chamber section is arranged proximally as an extension of the line segment and defines a pump chamber having a frame therein accommodating a balloon. A first opening connects the inner volume to an external volume and a second opening is arranged proximally from the first opening to connect the inner volume to the external volume. A check valve is assigned to the second opening and the check valve includes a valve foil having an aperture formed therein offset from the second opening. A third opening communicates with the pump chamber. The frame is of a shape memory material which provides rigidity for a pulsatile operation of the balloon. During operation, the pulsating body fluid is conveyed in the inner volume directionally between the first and second opening by operating the balloon.
