Abstract: In printing an electronic document on a paper, an MFP prints a code image created by encoding a paper ID including a local ID issued to the paper and stores paper information with the paper ID. The MFP determines a type of data format, creates a paper ID in the data format, and prints a code image created by encoding the paper ID. In copying a printed paper, the MFP decodes the code image printed on the paper to acquire the paper ID and retrieves paper information associated with the paper ID according to the data format. The MFP specifies the electronic document as a print source from retrieved paper information and performs printing using the electronic document.
Abstract: In a document feeder, a length of a discharge path from a reading position to a discharge position is longer than a length of a supply path from a feeding position to the reading position. An idling discharge position is disposed, where the distance with the discharge position through the discharge path is shorter than a distance between the feeding position and the reading speed switching position. A control device controls driving of registration rollers, conveyor rollers and discharge rollers simultaneously when a trailing edge of an original reaches the discharge idling position of the discharge path by the discharge rollers while the discharge rollers is stopped. The document feeder efficiently supplies originals sequentially to the reading position, stably reads the image of the original without discharging a previous original during a reading, and aligns and stores the originals in a discharge stacker.
Abstract: Upon printing on a tab, a printer driver presents a screen for setting index information of a tab sheet, and receives designation of a position where an index is to be added and an item to be added to the index. Further, it receives designation of the number of letters, letter size, or the number of lines as a threshold value for determining whether the title information input to be printed on the tab should be converted into an index or not. When the input title information exceeds the threshold value, the printer driver controls such that one or more alphanumeric characters are printed on a tab, instead of the title information, and such that the input title information is printed on an index sheet together with the alphanumeric character(s) of the corresponding tab sheet.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a technique for correcting tones of a digitized image, for use in a mobile terminal or the like. The use of a conventional image tone correction technique to backlight correction imposes a limit on improvement in local contrast in a bright region or a dark region.
Abstract: A multi-function peripheral (MFP) device having enhanced security for processed data is disclosed. The MFP includes both a non-volatile memory and a volatile memory. The MFP also includes a user interface configured to allow a user to prevent data from being stored on the non-volatile memory. The MFP further includes a processor or a switch configured to disable access to the non-volatile memory. The MFP blocks data from being stored on its non-volatile memory upon a user's selection via the user interface. The data is only temporarily stored on the volatile memory, and is erased after processing. This configuration prevents others from having access to the data.
Abstract: During a display of a slideshow of a composite image comprising a plurality of images, a user operates a print bookmark, resulting in composite images and individual images that can be printed being set and stored as print candidate images. By displaying, in a list, stored candidate images on a display unit as print candidate images, an image processing apparatus is provided which enables the user to specify a desired image for printing.
Abstract: A system and method for accurately controlling a printing process regardless web width or printing layout. A user interface is provided for configuring a printing application that includes a plurality of sensors arranged to form an interface region. The sensors are configured to generate feedback indicating user interaction with the interface region. A controller is configured to map the plurality of sensors into virtual keys based on at least a columniation of the printing application and adjust parameters of the printing application based on the feedback.

Abstract: In a method for reading a document set on a document positioning plate to output image data, an edge area of an image of an entire reading area is extracted to form a first rectangle area including the extracted edge area. If a position of an apex of the first rectangle area farthest from a reading reference position and a size of the first rectangle area satisfy predetermined conditions, image data corresponding to a second rectangle area including the first rectangle area and the reading reference position are output.
Abstract: A content transmission device for transmitting content, whose copying is controlled, includes an authentication section for performing an authentication procedure between the content transmission device and a content receiving device, a first copy-control-information processing section for processing first copy control information describing copy control information concerning the content, a second copy-control-information processing section for processing second copy control information including content information different from the first copy control information, and a content transmission section for generating and transmitting, to the content receiving device, a packet including a header including the first copy control information and the second copy control information, and a payload obtained by encrypting the content with a predetermined content key.
Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes an image pickup element that emits an electrical signal based on received light, a document table including a reading window, a document cover, a base plate including a flat portion that opposes the reading window, the base plate being displaceable in a direction of separating from the document cover and a direction of approaching the document cover, a spring portion that is integrally formed with the base plate, and a document presser that presses the document placed on the document table toward the reading window and includes an elastic member that is elastically deformable and is adhered to a reading window side of the base plate. The document cover includes a first pressing portion that conveys force due to a weight of the document cover acting to press the spring portion toward the reading window when the document cover covers the reading window.
Abstract: An image processing device manages data for each object transmitted for each image forming device with respect to a plurality of image forming devices, which are transmission destinations of data for each object, and controls transmission of data for each object which has not been transmitted to each image forming device based on the management contents.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for determining optimum noise filter setting to be used by a scanner in a system including a printer and a detector forming a closed loop system. A test image including a plurality of horizontal lines, vertical lines, slanted lines and dots are printed using the printer and scanned back using the scanner. The scanned test image data is compared to the input test image data representing the test image, and based on such comparison, the optimum noise filter setting for the printer/scanner pair is determined and stored for future use. This method is particularly useful for printing barcodes having high data capacity.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus for forming an image on a sheet based on image data and performing post-processing with respect to the sheet having the image, includes a post-processing designator for designating a post-processing side of a sheet bundle, and a post-processing position with respect to the post-processing side. The post-processing designator identifies four sides of the sheet based on combination information relating to combination of discrimination as to whether the post-processing side is a long side or a short side of the sheet, and discrimination as to whether the post-processing side is a left side, a right side, an upper side, or a lower side of the sheet, depending on whether the image to be formed on the sheet is a portrait image or a landscape image, and designates the post-processing side by using the combination information.
Abstract: The invention provides a method for determining parameters relevant to the print quality of a printed product. A macroscopic photogram of a measuring field of the printed product is recorded using a camera having a macro lens. An actual value of a parameter relevant to the print quality is determined from the macroscopic photogram. The actual value is compared to a nominal value of the parameter relevant to the print quality. Whether the measuring field is printed with adequate quality is determined based on the comparison of the actual valve with the nominal value of the parameter relevant to the print quality.
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and product for reducing resource footprints for printer operation outputs, comprising: specifying a print job rendering criteria; receiving a request to print a print job having a page number amount; and automatically selecting and printing a portion of the print job as a function of the print job rendering criteria, wherein the portion has a page number amount smaller than the print job page number amount. The print job rendering criteria may comprise a set maximum number of pages to print during one printing session, where the portion to print is less than or equal to the maximum number of pages. Where the print job comprises a plurality of document components, automatically selecting and printing a portion of the document may comprise selecting a subset of the plurality of components as a function of the identified component relevance to each selected component and printing the representation.
