Abstract: In one embodiment, a stream of data packets originated by a visual data source is received at an edge device in a network. The data packets include at least one of video data, image data, and geo spatial data. Next, a visual data attribute is extracted at the edge device from the stream of data packets according to an edge-based extraction algorithm. The extracted visual data attribute is vectorized at the edge device via quantization vectors. The vectorized visual data attribute is then indexed at the edge device in a schema-less database that stores indexed visual data attributes.

  • Patent number: 9602352
Abstract: A network element of a software-defined network includes functional entities (321-325) capable of transferring data between each other and providing connections to other network elements. One or more of the functional entities are configurable with configuration data received from a controller of the software-defined network. The network element is adapted to transmit, to the controller, entity-specific capability descriptors related to the functional entities configurable with the configuration data. Each entity-specific capability descriptor expresses operations capable of being carried out by the respective functional entity. As the controller is made aware of the capabilities of the functional entities, the goal of the software-defined networking to provide controlled management of the data-forwarding functionality of a network element as a whole can be extended to the functional entities, e.g.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for pre-fetching resources referenced on a network page using a browser application executable on a client device. A network page predicted to be accessed by a user of a browser application may be identified that references resources, such as image, video, text, and multimedia resources. A prioritization of retrieval may be determined for the resources according to retrieval criteria. The browser application may retrieve at least a portion of the resources according to the prioritization of retrieval and store the retrieved sources in memory, thereby causing the network page predicted to be accessed to render more quickly, when accessed.

  • Patent number: 9578577
Abstract: A method in a legacy access node for selecting a suitable RAN, of a plurality of RANs for a LTE UE, capable of both PS and CS sessions in a global communication network. The method comprises connecting the UE to a legacy RAN via a radio interface module and then establishing a PS session with the connected UE. The bandwidth that the UE currently is consuming is monitored and compared with a predefined bandwidth threshold. If the consumed bandwidth exceeds the predefined bandwidth threshold an attempt will be made to trigger transferring of the UE from the current legacy RAN to the LTE RAN. A corresponding method is disclosed in a eNodeB where the attempt to trigger transferring of the UE from the LTE RAN to the legacy RAN is made if the consumed bandwidth falls below the predefined threshold. Related legacy access nodes and eNodeBs perform the methods.

  • Patent number: 9571394
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for enhancing operations of virtual networks. In some examples, a network system includes a plurality of servers interconnected by a switch fabric comprising a plurality of switches interconnected to form a physical network. Each of the servers comprises an operating environment executing one or more virtual machines in communication via one or more virtual networks. The servers comprise a set of virtual routers configured to extend the virtual networks to the operating environments of the virtual machines. A virtual router of the set of virtual routers is configured to aggregate a plurality of inbound tunnel packets according to a same virtual network identifier in order to generate an aggregate tunnel packet. The virtual router is further configured to route the aggregate tunnel packet to a host associated with a virtual network identified by the same virtual network identifier.

  • Patent number: 9572176
Abstract: Certain embodiments of the invention may be found in a method and system for antenna and radio front-end topologies for a system-on-a-chip (SOC) device that combines Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11 b/g WLAN technologies. A single chip radio device that supports WLAN and Bluetooth technologies receives a WLAN signal in a WLAN processing circuitry of the radio front-end and in a Bluetooth processing circuitry of the radio front-end. Signals generated by the WLAN processing circuitry and the Bluetooth processing circuitry from the received WLAN signal may be combined in a diversity combiner that utilizes selection diversity gain combining or maximal ratio combining (MRC). When a generated signal is below a threshold value, the signal may be dropped from the combining operation. A single antenna usage model may be utilized with the single chip radio device front-end topology to support WLAN and Bluetooth communications.

  • Patent number: 9571387
Abstract: Network devices can use maximally redundant trees (MRTs) for delivering traffic streams across a network, and for transitioning traffic to a new set of MRTs after a topology change, without dropping traffic. The disclosure describes distributed computation of a set of MRTs from one or more ingress devices to one or more egress devices of the network. In one example, network devices in a network compute a set of MRTs, and establish a set of LSPs along the paths of the set of MRTs. After a change to the network topology, convergence sequencing is managed by a central controller, which centrally orchestrates the sequence for moving traffic from being sent on the old MRT paths to being sent on newly computed MRT paths after the controller determines that all new MRT forwarding state has been installed on the network devices.

  • Patent number: 9544922
Abstract: A method for enabling different priority messages in a contention-based wireless network where units use a common channel. Relative to high priority messages, if the channel is not busy when a message is ready for transmission, then the message is transmitted immediately. When the channel is busy, the message is not transmitted until the channel becomes available and a selected back-off period (while the channel is available) expires. Back off periods are illustratively randomly selected by the units. Low priority messages are similarly not transmitted when the channel is busy, and additionally are not transmitted for a preselected pre-emption interval when the channel is available to high priority messages but not to low priority messages. Like with high priority messages, low priority messages that not transmitted when ready are held back a back-off period before they are transmitted.

  • Patent number: 9531523
Abstract: A geographic region in which an access point AP lies is divided into sectors, each sector associated with a group; and a station is assigned to a group based on location information of the station relative to the sectors. The station can assign itself to a group autonomously, after determining the number of groups from signalling received from the AP. Or the AP can do the group assignments, such as by assessing distance between adjacent stations. The AP can utilize the station's location information to test whether a first link between the station and a first node of a first group is sufficient. If the test indicates that the first link is sufficient the AP can assign the station to the first group, else it will utilize the location information to test whether a second link between the station and a second node of a second group is sufficient.

Abstract: Suitable beam pattern control is performed while performing access control based on physical carrier sense. A communication device transmits frames having a long preamble under a state where signals will not reach unless a beam pattern is formed, thereby enabling access control based on physical carrier sense, and under a state where signals will sufficiently reach without a beam pattern being formed transmits frames having a shorter preamble, thereby suppressing transmission overhead. Also, a beam pattern and preamble type are decided based on transmission/reception history of access control following CSMA/CA procedures.
