  • Patent number: 10773331
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to communicate via a weld cable are disclosed. An example welding-type power supply includes a power converter, a receiver circuit, and a controller. The power converter converts input power to welding-type power based on a weld voltage setpoint and to output the welding-type power via a weld circuit. The receiver circuit receives a communication via the weld circuit while current is flowing through the weld circuit or after the current has stopped flowing through the weld circuit. The communication includes weld voltage feedback information measured at a device remote from the power supply while the current is flowing through the weld circuit. The controller controls the welding-type power output by the power converter according to a voltage feedback loop using the weld voltage feedback information to regulate a weld voltage at the remote device to the weld voltage setpoint.

  • Patent number: 10766094
Abstract: A plasma ejection unit (21) of an arc welding device includes a plasma torch (26), a copper plate (27), a container (28), and a gas supplying unit (29). Plasma gas inside the container (28) is pressurized by argon gas supplied from the gas supplying unit (29), and ejected from first to eighth ejection ports. The plasma gas ejected from the first to eighth ejection ports is concentrated in a concentration area (CA) between vehicle body plates (16-17) to form through holes (40) in the vehicle body plates (16-17), and is separated. The air pressures, in eight areas, of the plasma gas reaching a vehicle body plate (18) are approximately one-eighth of the air pressure of the plasma gas in the concentration area (CA). Accordingly, while the through holes (40) are formed in the vehicle body plates (16-17), no through hole is formed in the vehicle body plate (18).

  • Patent number: 10751827
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing welding-type power derives motive power from a variable speed engine and driving a variable frequency generator with the motive power to provide a generator output. The generator output is preregulated to provide an intermediate signal, and the preregulating is controlled at least in response to feedback indicative of the welding-type output power. Welding-type output power is derived from the bus, and controlled at least in response to the welding feedback. Auxiliary output power is also derived from the bus, and controlled at least in response to feedback indicative of the auxiliary output power. The speed of the engine is controlled at least in response to one of the auxiliary feedback and the welding feedback. Energy produced by the engine that is not used as an output is stored by batteries. When the output exceeds the energy generated, the difference is supplied by the batteries.

  • Patent number: 10661370
Abstract: Melting energy exemplified by an arc (24) is delivered to a metal alloy material (22, 23), forming a melt pool (26). A metal oxide material (34) is delivered (33) to the melt pool and dispersed therein. The melting energy and oxide deliveries are controlled (44) to melt the alloy material, but not to melt at least most of the metal oxide material. The deliveries may be controlled so that the melting energy does not intercept the metal oxide delivery. The melting energy may be controlled to create a temperature of the melt pool that does not reach the melting point of the metal oxide. Deliveries of the melting energy and the oxide may alternate so they do not overlap in time. A cold metal transfer apparatus (22) and process (18, 19, 20) may be used for example in combination with an oxide particle pulse delivery device (42, 46).

The method includes the step of forming each marking by locally heating the substrate, for example using a fibre laser. A step is also performed of monitoring the temperature of the substrate, e.g. using a temperature sensor, whilst each marking is being formed. The method may be used to form a magnetic encoder scale on a stainless steel substrate having a high content of martensitic material. The local heating causes the martensitic material to be transformed into austenitic material. An encoder scale made using the method is also described.
