  • Patent number: 6405625
Abstract: A printer is provided with a cutter for cutting recording paper in arbitrary lengths or cutting recording paper with a part left after cutting. A pair of movable blades, at least one of which is displaced in a direction approximately orthogonal to the paper path, are driven in a cooperative relationship to effect a cutting operation with a fixed blade. The dispersion of force required for tearing off the cut recording paper is reduced, a torn trace of a left part after cutting the recording paper looks nice, and the position of a left part after cutting the recording paper can be arbitrarily set respectively without increasing the size in the direction of the recording paper width.

  • Patent number: 6397714
Abstract: The cutting cylinder of a rotary cutting machine has at least one radial needle for retaining waste projecting radially from its surface. A waste ejector has a rectilinear part parallel to the generatrix of the said cylinder and traversed by at least one slot coinciding with the trajectory of said radial needle for the passage thereof. A support has a first part secured to the frame of the rotary cutting machine, a second part secured to said ejector and connected to the first part by a guide defining a transverse trajectory relative to the edge of said ejector and intersecting said cylinder. An adjustment device moves the said second part along the transverse trajectory and an elastic connection exerts a prestressing of the second part on the adjustment device.

  • Patent number: 6397715
Abstract: A punch and die tool for cutting a slug from a sheet of material that is retained in the opening of the die and does not adhere to or follow the punch on its upward stroke, and a method for retaining a slug in a die, are disclosed. The die is formed with one or more irregularities or grooves on the edge of the die face so that the slug cut by the operation of the punch and die will have a burr on its edge. The burr causes the slug to lodge in the inside surface of the die and prevents the slug from following the punch on its upward stroke.

  • Patent number: 6386416
Abstract: A tape dispenser comprises a generally palm-sized housing formed of a single piece of material. The housing completely encloses a roll of tape mounted within the housing for rotation relative to the housing. The housing comprises a body enclosing the roll of tape, an opening in the body for dispensing the tape, and a thumb-engageable cover integrally formed with the body. The thumb-engageable cover is pivotable relative to the body to open and close the opening. The cover includes a cutter (e.g., cutting teeth) for cutting pieces of tape from the roll of tape as the cover is moved to its closed position. Alternatively, cutting teeth may be arranged along both the cover and the body of the housing so that a piece of tape may be cut from the roll be pulling the end of the tape against either row of cutting teeth. Methods of making and using the tape dispenser are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6378409
Abstract: A three hole punch system is for use in an image capturing device. The three hole punch system uses elastomeric rollers that punch holes in the edge of a sheet as it passes between two rollers. If desired, the rollers can act as a transport for the sheet without punching holes in the sheet. After the holes are punched, the resultant slugs are pushed back into the holes and the sheet is retrieved by the operator.

  • Patent number: 6374704
Abstract: An earth boring bit is shown having a bit body and at least one cutter rotatably secured to the bit body. The cutter has a plurality of teeth formed integrally thereon and arranged in circumferential rows. Each of the teeth includes an outer end, an inner end, a pair of flanks and a crest which transversely connects the ends and flanks. During the manufacturing process, a temporary protective coating is applied at a region of the tooth root which comprises a sharp corner at the intersection of the flanks and ends in order to prevent a carburized case from forming in that region during subsequent carburization of the cutter.
