  • Patent number: 6182550
Abstract: A gear drive system for a printer designed to print upon a continuous roll of paper and having a blade used to cut off printed portions of paper from the paper roll is implemented. The gear drive system consists of a drive shaft 330, a slip clutch 401, a clutch gear 116, a drive gear 110, and a staggered gear 112 which controls the paper cutter blade 106. During printing, clutch 401 allows the drive shaft 330 shaft to slip relative to the clutch gear 116. When printing stops, clutch 401 locks clutch gear 116 which is engaged with the first portion of staggered gear 112 and causes staggered gear 112 to rotate until the second portion of staggered gear 112 engages the drive gear 110. Staggered gear 112 is then driven by the drive gear 110. A cutter blade is controlled by staggered gear 112, with the blade cutting off the paper as the drive gear 110 is in reverse rotation.

  • Patent number: 6182547
Abstract: A steel blank can be removed from the space between a lower stationary die and an upper movable die by employing a belt conveyor in a cavity in the upper die. The frame for the conveyor belt mounts an array of permanent magnets that exert a magnetic pick-up force through the lower run of the belt into the steel blank. The conveyor frame is floatably suspended to follow the upper die, while being downwardly deflected by the action of a stripper pad carried by the upper die, such that the blank is dislodged from the upper die and then transported out of the space between the two dies.

  • Patent number: 6182533
Abstract: A method of making a drill blank which is elongate and which has a vein of a bonding material located in an end surface thereof. A recess is formed in a surface of a cemented carbide body. Either a layer of ultra-hard abrasive or a mass of ultra-hard abrasive particles is then placed on a surface of the recess. A cemented carbide piece, having the same shape and cross-sectional size as the recess, is inserted into the recess. The cemented carbide body is subjected to conditions of elevated temperature and pressure so that either the abrasive compact layer or the layer of the ultra-hard abrasive bonds the cemented carbide piece to the cemented carbide body. Finally, the cemented carbide body is severed through either the abrasive compact layer or layer of ultra-hard abrasive to produce one or more drill blanks.

  • Patent number: 6170372
Abstract: A dual spring hold down for use with wood working tools, such as table saws, routers and shapers comprises a bracket mounted on the wood working table behind the tool and a hold down bar pivotably attached to the bracket with the hold down bar surrounding the wood working tool. A threaded rod is threaded into and extends upward from an extension arm of the bracket and though a slot in a hold down bar cross plate. A first coil spring surrounds the threaded rod immediately above the cross plate and a second, stronger coil spring surrounds the threaded rod above the first coil spring while a cylindrical sleeve surrounds the first coil spring. The hold down bar is free to drop down to act as a safety barrier when no wood panel is present. Then, initial lifting of the hold down bar by a wood panel is initially against the relatively light downward bias of the first coil spring until the sleeve is lifted to a “hold down height” at a point sufficient to compress the first coil spring within the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 6148526
Abstract: A handheld machine tool, for example a circular saw, has a disk-shaped tool which is driven in rotation in a housing which holds a drive motor and a tool shaft carrying the tool. The tool can be clamped between a clamping nut, a clamping screw, and two supporting flanges. One supporting flange can be rotated easily relative to the tool shaft without use of auxiliary tools and is supported with an extensive friction at the tool. This supporting flange can be dependably clamped or loosened without tools. The machine tool further has an adjusting device which is coupled with that supporting flange to displace the latter axially toward the tool when that supporting shaft is rotated relative to the tool shaft due to rotational driving. The adjusting device therefore clamps the tool with an increasing force and tries to displace that supporting flange axially away from the tool automatically when the tool is stopped and accordingly reduces the clamping force.
