  • Patent number: 6102476
Abstract: A furniture with an integrated computer comprises an easy chair with large, thick cushions, and a pair of wide armrests that extend from about waist level to almost the ground. The right armrest is hollow, and serves as the case of a personal computer by housing the circuit boards, power supply, and hard disk drive. A small console at the front of the right armrest houses removable media drives within easy reach. A pad on the right armrest supports a mouse, joystick, or other input device. A monitor support and a keyboard support are mounted on a horizontal arm pivotally attached to the left armrest, and respectively support a monitor and a keyboard. A pair of speakers are mounted on either side of a headrest. A reclining mechanism arranged under the seat enables a backrest to be reclined, and a footrest to be extended by moving a lever on a side of the chair.

  • Patent number: 6089664
Abstract: A back and waist support device mounted on a seating furniture equipment such as, for example, a chair or a legless chair is disclosed. The device includes a first arm for supporting a longitudinally extending first projection arranged for forcedly pressing the back of a user and a second arm for supporting a longitudinally extending second projection arranged for forcedly pressing his waist, as well as springs arranged on the first arm and second arm so as to urge the first projection and second projection in a direction of forcedly pressing the back and waist, respectively, resulting in being constructed in a manner to be pivotally movable. The first and second arms per se each may be constructed into an elastic structure, to thereby eliminate arrangement of the springs. Also, an angle between the first arm and the second arm may be adjustable.

  • Patent number: 6068555
Abstract: A flexible disc is arranged between first and second flanges each designed to be secured to a shaft, the flexible disc being alternately fixed at angular spacings to one each of the flanges. A torsional vibration suppressor is associated with one of the two flanges and has a suppressor collar integrally formed with the flange, a gyrating mass, and a rubber spring suspension system which is secured by vulcanization to the suppressor collar and the gyrating mass. A centering device having a centering collar formed integrally with the flange, a centering body rigidly connected to the other flange, and a rubber spring suspension system secured by vulcanization to the centering collar, is provided for mutually centering the two shafts. This obviates the need for expensive fits or matches and facilitates the assembly of the shaft coupling.

  • Patent number: 6045188
Abstract: A system for mounting a seat back relative to a seat bottom includes a rod having circumferentially spaced threaded and non-threaded portions. The non-threaded portions have a smaller diameter than the threaded portions. The rod extends through a bore in a lock ring. The lock ring bore has threaded and non-threaded portions. The threaded portions of the ring have a smaller diameter than the non-threaded portions. The lock ring is rotatable between a locked position at which its threaded portions are aligned with the threaded portions on the rod. At this position, the rod cannot move. The rod is fixed to a seat back pivot bracket, and when the rod is fixed, the seat back is prevented from pivoting relative to a seat bottom. However, when the locked member is rotated such that its non-threaded portions are aligned with the threaded portions on the rod, the rod can move. At this position the seat back can pivot relative to the seat bottom.

  • Patent number: 6041723
Abstract: The portable collapsible self-assembling desk having a desktop, base unit, pivotal side supports, a tray and a lower shelf The desk in its collapsed configuration allows for easy transportation and storage and can be carried by a handle in a suitcase-like manner. The desk in its erected configuration provides a substantially horizontal work space. The pivotal side supports are automatically extended to provide support to the desktop allowing the desk to be easily converted between the collapsed and erected positions. These two configurations allow the desk to be in a collapsed configuration providing a small footprint and occupying substantially less space than when in the erect position.

  • Patent number: 6038738
Abstract: A hinge assembly normally limits pivotal movement of a door within a first range and selectively permits pivotal movement of the door within a second, larger range. The hinge assembly includes a body hinge member fixedly attached to a frame and a door hinge member fixedly attached to the associated door. The body hinge member and the door hinge member are pivotally interconnected. The hinge assembly further includes a latch mechanism which normally limits pivotal movement of the door within the first range. Manual urging of the latch member to a release position selectively permits the door to be pivoted beyond the first range. The latching member is operable to automatically return to its latched position in response to closing of the door.

  • Patent number: 6032589
Abstract: A shelf for the top of a monitor has a base with groups of seriate polygonal sockets formed on the bottom and two support feet each including an upper foot and a lower foot. The upper foot has a top polygonal plug correspondingly fitted into the socket of the base, a series of slots and a channel in communication with each one of the slots. The upper portion of the lower foot is formed to be detachably inserted into the upper foot and has a plurality of axially defined grooves and two T-shaped bosses formed on the opposite sides of the upper end thereof. The bosses are pressed toward each other when the lower foot is inserted into the upper foot. Afterwards, due to the provision of the grooves, the elasticity of the surface of the lower foot enables the bosses to project out from the channel and one of the slots, by which the engagement between the lower foot and the upper foot is secured.

  • Patent number: 6027167
Abstract: A method for safe restraint of occupants in a crashing vehicle using safety belts, and a double tube frame construction vehicle seat. In a crash the kinetic energy of the occupant is restrained by the belt and by the cooperating resiliently deformable double tube frame construction in such a way that, at a moderate load, the upper portion of this double tube frame construction will move resiliently, but with a bigger load a permanent deformation will be the result. The device includes a seat frame with a seat portion and a back rest portion being made of a parallel tube frame having two tubes arranged above/under and forward/behind, at the seat portion and at the back rest portion respectively, up to a height at the breast of the occupant. The tubes are twisted above this height to a position side by side. Reinforcing, deformable form plates are rigidly arranged between the parallel tubes at least at the seat portion and at the lower portion of the back rest portion.
