  • Patent number: 5293858
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for simultaneously cone cutting of crown portions and pavilions of gemstones are provided by the present invention. Each of the gemstones to be simultaneously cut are individually mounted in a motor rotating collet which is mounted on a base plate. One of the base plates is provided with additional motor-driven apparatus to move the plate at an angle of approximately 45.degree. to the axial center line of the gemstone. The second gemstone is rotated by a motor attached to the collet by a support plate. The support plate moves in a direction toward the first gemstone at an angle approximately 45.degree. to the axial center line of the second gemstone and, such that, it is perpendicular to the back and forth motion provided by the motor apparatus of the first gemstone. In this manner, each of the gemstones are simultaneously coned shaped at first its crown portion and then at its pavilion portion or visa versa.

  • Patent number: 5288179
Abstract: A cutter for producing face gears, comprising a disc-shaped cutter body with cutting teeth (23) fitted on the periphery. The cutting edge (24) of each cutting tooth lies in a surface of revolution which is produced by turning an imaginary gear wheel of infinitely low thickness about the axis (20) of the cutter and simultaneously about its own axis. Each cutting tooth (23) of the cutter is of such a shape that the cutting tooth is re-grindable, without the shape of the cutting edge of the cutting tooth changing as a result. This is achieved through the fact that the profile of each cutting tooth shifts in planes (22, 22a, 22b...) from the cutting edge (24) of the cutting tooth to the rear side thereof in the direction of the axis (20) of the cutter.

  • Patent number: 5285597
Abstract: A device for subdividing semiconductor bars into wafers comprises a grinding tool having two concentrically arranged grinding discs. A rough grinding disc is arranged inside of an outer smooth polishing grinding disc. The grinding tool grinds a lower face of a semiconductor bar to a smooth planar form. A first electrolytic truer operates in conjunction with the outer smooth polishing grinding disc while a second electrolytic truer operates in conjunction with the inner rough grinding disc. The truers are arranged to define an axial offset between the grinding surfaces of the grinding discs so that a lower face of the bar is smoothed. The device also has a slicing tool for slicing the bar into wafers which will have a smooth planar form.
