  • Patent number: 4596416
Abstract: A glove compartment in the dashboard of a motor vehicle is closed by a movable door having brackets which carry pins slideably retained in arcuate guide tracks provided in the side walls of the glove compartment. By virtue of the appropriate curvature of guide tracks, the door, while being opened, is able to move along the outer contour of the dashboard and inside of the dashboard. The glove compartment is preferably divided into upper and lower compartments. A spring acts between the compartment and the door and one of the pairs of guide tracks have depressions into which the spring pulls the pins to retain the door in either the fully closed position closing both compartments and a partly closed position opening the upper compartment.

  • Patent number: 4592596
Abstract: An improvement in an axle assembly for off-road vehicles 10 having a swing arm 18 carrying left and right rear wheels 20 in which the assembly comprises an elongated shaft 22 centrally journaled in thread-lockable relation on the swing arm and having left and right hand end portions defining wheel mounting hubs 44 outboard of the swing arm in a manner subjecting the shaft portion 50 between the hubs and the swing arm to severe bending moments likely to cause cracking in shaft threaded portions 48, comprising thread-lockable shaft locking apparatus separable from the shaft, the locking apparatus including an internally threaded nut 62, an exteriorly threaded slide 60 nonrotatably keyed to the shaft, and shoulder device 68, 70 opposing the slide in blocking relation responsive to threaded adjustment of the nut on the slide to lock the shaft relative to the swing arm free of cracking-prone threading on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4588233
Abstract: A padded rail plate for use on a tracked vehicle is provided having a track rail plate adapted to be affixed to a track of a tracked vehicle, a resilient pad affixed to a surface of the track rail plate in order to protect the track rail plate and a road surface to be contacted thereby from damage during operation of the tracked vehicle, an anchoring device which provides a bearing surface for the resilient pad and which anchors the resilient pad between the bearing surface and the track rail plate in order to prevent pad material from being ripped from the track rail plate.

  • Patent number: 4585268
Abstract: An overhead guard is provided for counterweighted lift trucks of different lengths. The overhead guard has a top portion supported at its front end by a pair of laterally spaced front legs extending downwardly to attaching points on the front of the truck and the top portion is supported at its rear end by adjustably positioned laterally spaced rear posts. The top of the rear posts may be attached to different longitudinally spaced points on the upper portion of the guard and the bottom of the rear posts are attachable to support posts on the counterweight which is at different longitudinal positions on different length trucks.

  • Patent number: 4571005
Abstract: A wheel, especially a disk wheel has six components, namely, two mirror-setrical hub sections, a wheel rim, two bending resistant wheel disks and a thrust and/or shear resistant body enclosed by the rim, by the two hub sections, and by the two wheel disks whereby metal components and fiber composite material components are bonded to one another to form the wheel. The materials of these components are selected for three purposes, to simplify the construction, to optimize the strength characteristics of the wheel, and to greatly increase the wheel's ability to dampen vibrations. The hub sections and rim are made of metal, the disks are made of fiber compound material and the enclosed body is made of metal or fiber compound material all held together by an adhesive bond. The hub sections have radially extending flanges which intermesh with the radially inner edge of the wheel disks in a multilayer fashion. The thrust and/or shear resistant body has preferably a honeycomb type structure.

  • Patent number: 4568117
Abstract: A storage turntable is comprised of a prism having spaced apart polygonal ends connected by a plurality of rectangular sides. Each of the sides provides a desired storage accessory such as a beverage container receptacle or a coin storage device. One side of the turntable is a plain planar surface which merely closes the opening. The console has a rectangular opening and the turntable is rotatably mounted within the opening by axles which extend from the polygonal ends of the prism and are rotatably journaled in bearing blocks attached to the console housing so that rotary movement of the prism sequentially registers a desired one of the storage accessories with the console opening for access by the vehicle occupant. A round thumb wheel is attached to the prism and extends above the surface of the console to provide a convenient means by which the turntable can be rotated. A detent is provided to retain the turntable at the selected position.
