Abstract: Systems and methods are described for customizing a display of media asset information based on a user preference profile. In particular, media asset description information is customized by changing a term to a synonym that matches an event or keyword in the user preference profile.

Abstract: A system and a method are disclosed for providing additional information associated with an object visually present in live media content. Live media content is acquired with a video capture system and displayed in an injection tool having a display and a grid dividing the display into a plurality of zones. The subject invention defines object images for any object that may be visually present in the live media, selects one or more of the zones where the object is visually present and associates the selected zones and the object image. An object injection time is defined and a live element parameter is defined as including the object injection time, the selected zones and the object image. Next, a package update is created that includes the live element parameter and the package update is delivered to the viewer device and the initial portable package is updated with the live element parameter.

Abstract: Sensing interfaces associated with a home entertainment system are used to automate a system response to events which occur in a viewing area associated with the home entertainment system. Data derived from such sensing interfaces may also be used to enhance the response readiness of one or more system components. Still further, user presence data derived from such sensing interfaces may be used to capture and report user viewing habits and/or preferences.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for generating for display identified supplemental content relevant to metadata of a particular scene of a media asset. The systems and methods may identify metadata of the media asset corresponding to the time of the particular scene, identify supplemental content relevant to the metadata of the particular scene, and determine the particular scene of the media asset has concluded. In response to determining the particular scene of the media asset has concluded, the identified supplemental content relevant to the metadata of the particular scene may be generated for display.

Abstract: Systems and associated methods are described for providing media content. The system retrieves from memory a media consumption pattern profile, which includes first and second media characteristics associated as a pattern of media consumption and a time duration indicating how long a first media content item having the first media characteristic was output by a user device before the user device changed to outputting a second media content item having the second media characteristic. The system outputs a media content item onto the user device. In response to detecting the media content item has the first media characteristic and has been output for the time duration, the system outputs a third media content item having the first and second media characteristics onto the user device and after outputting the third media content item, outputs a fourth media content item having the second media characteristic onto the user device.

Abstract: The disclosed computer-implemented method includes accessing cluster hardware information that identifies at least two different types of storage media within a cluster and provides an indication of a respective amount of data throughput for each identified type of storage media. The method next includes accessing popularity information for digital content that is to be stored in the cluster. The popularity information indicates how often the digital content is predicted to be accessed over a specified future period of time. The method also includes allocating the digital content on the different types of storage media within the cluster according to the popularity information. Accordingly, digital content predicted to have higher popularity is placed on storage media types with higher throughput amounts, and digital content predicted to have lower popularity is placed on storage media types with lower throughput amounts. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Abstract: Techniques are described for delivery and handling of automated user-responsive video sub-content. For example, a user is consuming video content associated with content-of-interest (COI) identifiers corresponding to certain sub-content relevant to the video content during certain playback time windows. During playback, embodiments use one or more sensors detect dynamic user input. At some time during playback of the video content, some of the COI identifiers are considered to be actively relevant, and detected dynamic user input is determined to invoke at least one of the actively relevant COI identifiers. A COI query can automatically be generated based on the invoked one or more COI identifiers, and a corresponding query response can be automatically generated and output to the user based on response data associated with the invoked one or more COI identifiers.

Abstract: A technique allows curating content such as videos to be specific to some event/theme. The technique allows creating an event in a calendar, and a backend system internally has an algorithm to pick the movies/TV shows based on viewing history.

Abstract: Systems and methods for mapping keys on a remote control device to digital content items are disclosed. An algorithm is trained, based on user's consumption pattern, to determine whether a digital content item would be relevant to the user. If the digital content item matches the consumption pattern, then a key is automatically mapped, and if it does not, then a notification that includes a mapping suggestion is generated and mapped upon approval. A mapping table is updated to store only valid mappings. An input of a key results in quick display of the mapped digital content item from where it was previously exited. A key can be mapped to a single or multiple digital content items. If similarities are detected between multiple digital content items, then they may both be mapped to the same key.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for managing presentation of stream portions are disclosed. The systems and methods may involve receiving a first list of stream portions; determining a first set of high-priority stream portions; retrieving at least one portion of the first set of high-priority stream portions; storing the retrieved portion of the first set of high-priority stream portions; receiving a second list of stream portions; determining a second set of high-priority stream portions; determining whether any stream portions in the stored portion of the first set of high-priority stream portions are not in the second set of high-priority stream portions; deleting from the memory any stream portions in the stored portion of the first set of high-priority stream portions that are not in the second set of high-priority stream portions; and determining whether any stream portions in the second set of high-priority stream portions are not stored in memory.

Abstract: Systems and methods for generating supplemental content for a program content stream include functionality that generates supplemental content such as educational questions. The questions may be generated based on the content of the program as learned by the system performing natural language processing (NLP) of the verbal content of the program content stream as the program is being presented on a television or mobile device. The system may pause the programming during presentation of the questions on the television or mobile device. The programming is then resumed once a correct answer is received or a timer runs out, whichever occurs first. The generated supplemental content may also be saved as metadata associated with the program for subsequent presentation when the program is played again for the viewer or other viewers.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for displaying recommendations that are temporally relevant to activities of a user and are contextually relevant to a portion of viewed media. This may be accomplished by a media guidance application identifying activities a user has planned, as well as respective times for which each of the plurality of activities was planned to be performed by the user. The media guidance application may filter the activities by determining which of the first plurality of activities has a corresponding respective time that is within a threshold period of time. The media guidance application may then identify characteristics of each filtered activity and of a media asset that the user is consuming at the present moment, and may compute whether the characteristics match. If the characteristics match, the media guidance application may generate for display a recommendation relating to the respective activity.

Abstract: A method, a set-top box, and a non-transitory computer readable medium for content switching and content control based on multi-user profiles. The method includes: capturing, by the set-top box, the facial information of two or more users of the plurality of users viewing content on a media play device, the media play device configured to display content from the set-top box; sending, by the set-top box, the captured facial information of the two or more users of the plurality of user viewing content on the media play device to the server; and receiving, on the set-top box, recommended content for the two or more users viewing the media play device based on a multi-user profile for the two or more users from the plurality of user profiles.

Abstract: A system may receive a plurality of requests to record a plurality of programs. Based on these requests, resources may be provisioned for transcoding variable bit rate streams into constant bit rate streams. Resources may be provisioned based on assigning transcoding tasks to an existing set of deployed devices in which the transcoding tasks correspond to the plurality of requests. Resources may further be provisioned based on incrementally deploying an additional device to the existing set of deployed devices when the transcoding capacity reaches a certain level.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for controlling the volume of a content. In one embodiment, sound associated with a content is received as well as a request for a volume change associated with the content. An equalization ratio is then obtained based on an amplification and a compression parameter. It is then analyzed whether a volume change will cause a coordinate change in the amplifier or compression levels associated with the content. If a volume change will cause a coordinate change in the amplifier or compression levels associated with the content, the volume change is limited.

Abstract: A system for interactive video content includes one or more interactive engagement platform servers communicatively couplable to a plurality of user devices configured to display one or more video programs received from video provider servers. In another embodiment, the one or more interactive engagement platform servers are configured to: receive at least one of an event ID or metadata associated with the at least one video program stream of the one or more video program streams; retrieve one or more data payloads including supplemental content related to the event ID or metadata associated with the at least one video program stream from at least one of a third-party content provider or a third-party service provider; and generate one or more control signals configured to cause the plurality of user devices to display an interactive content overlay configured to display information associated with the one or more retrieved data payloads.

Abstract: Using a sentiment analysis model, a reaction to a presentation of a first content is measured. Using the first content and the reaction, a content generation parameter is determined. Using a first content generation model and the content generation parameter, second content corresponding to the first content is generated. Using a second content generation model and the content generation parameter, third content corresponding to the first content is generated. The first content is adjusted by combining the first content with the second content and the third content, the adjusting resulting in an adjusted content.
