Patent number: 5520763Abstract: Colored or metallic foil is applied to toner printed onto a substrate, such as paper, in a high speed, versatile manner, using a rotating impression cylinder, and a rotating transfer cylinder having circumferentially spaced heated raised portions. The toner, which preferably includes a thermoplastic component, is applied to the paper with any suitable printer, such as a computer controlled MIDAX (ion deposition) print engine. The toner may be heated by an infra red heater just before the paper is fed to the nip between the impression and transfer cylinders. A foil strip having an adhesive layer facing outwardly, a foil layer, and a release coating on a backing, is also fed to the nip, and the backing taken up downstream of the nip. Heat and pressure applied at the nip transfer the adhesive and foil from the foil strip to the tacky toner, producing the desired foil printed paper, which then may be further processed.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1992Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Assignee: Moore Business Forms, Inc.Inventor: Robert H. Patent number: 5423927Abstract: A die paste transfer system wherein a first layer of bonding paste is transfer to a surface of the die as the die moves through the paste station in a controlled manner. The control for the transport controls orientation which the die passes through the paste station and the orientation of the die at the bonding site. The height of the die is varied as it passes through a second layer of paste. The speed at which the die and the second layer of bonding paste move well to each other is also adjusted to produce the desired thickness of the first layer on the die. Shear is produced in the second layer to affect transfer of the bonding paste from the reservoir to the die. For larger dies, the die may enter and leave the paste more than once to produce individual plateaus spaced from the edge of the die.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1994Date of Patent: June 13, 1995Assignee: Kulicke & Soffa Industries, Inc.Inventors: Edward T. Patent number: 5409560Abstract: A method of making liners for tool boxes provides custom formed liners to fit a specific selection and arrangement of tools in a tool chest, box or drawer. The method comprises first cutting a backing sheet and a tool receptacle sheet to fit the selected tool drawer or container, and laminating the receptacle sheet to the underlying backing sheet. The selected tools are then laid out on top of the receptacle sheet according to the pattern desired and their outlines traced on the top of the receptacle sheet. The tool receptacles are then cut through the receptacle sheet, down to but not through the underlying backing sheet, along the traced lines. A liquid plastic or vinyl material may be added to the bottoms of the completed receptacles if desired, and allowed to cure to further cushion any tools placed therein. The liquid plastic material may be provided in different colors to assist in the proper placement of tools and in the determination of missing tools.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1994Date of Patent: April 25, 1995Inventors: Erik D. Patent number: 5403414Abstract: A method of constructing a floor so as to prevent squeaking due to movement of the floor decking relative to the joists. The joists are installed, and strips of resiliently compressible cushioning tape are laid on the upper edges of the joists so that an adhesive side of the tape adheres thereto to keep the strip in position, and so that a non-adhesive side of the tape faces upwardly therefrom. Floor decking is placed on top of this so that the strip of tape is sandwiched between the decking and the joists, and the non-adhesive surface of the tape permits the decking to be slid thereover to a desired position. Fasteners are then driven through the decking and into the joist to secure the decking in position, and the resilient cushioning tape fills any gaps between the joists and the decking so as to prevent the decking from moving on the joists and causing squeaks. A tool for laying the strips of tape is made up of a handle portion and a spool portion.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1993Date of Patent: April 4, 1995Inventor: Charles Corston
