  • Patent number: 6167030
Abstract: A system and method for controlling the cell priority of cells transmitted from a cell source to network destinations across a network connection is provided. Each of the cells transmitted is registered in a measurement buffer upon being output from the cell source. The registered cells in the measurement buffer are discharged at a discharge rate corresponding to the current occupancy level of the measurement buffer. Cell priority values are generated by correlating the current buffer occupancy level to one of a plurality of predetermined buffer occupancy ranges to determine which occupancy range coincides with the current occupancy level. The generated cell priority values are loaded into cells transmitted from the cell source for use by the network connection.

  • Patent number: 6160809
Abstract: A packet processing system or router is disclosed that has at least one central packet-header processor, a packet broadcast bus, and local packet controllers that communicate with each other and the central packet-header processor via the packet broadcast bus. Packets received by media access controllers are passed to the associated local packet controllers and then broadcast on the packet broadcast bus. These broadcast packets are stored in packet buffer memories of the controllers, and the processor snoops for at least headers of the broadcast packets. The headers are analyzed and the processor issues forwarding instructions concerning the broadcast packets to the local packet controllers. As a result, the packet data only traverses the bus once. Only a relatively short forwarding decision is generated after the packets are broadcast and this can occur on a separate control bus, if desired.

  • Patent number: 6157658
Abstract: A pointer processing apparatus in an SDH transmission system used to serially conducting a pointer process on inputted multiplex data has an address generating unit for allocating an address to each channel of the multiplex data, a RAM for holding an information group obtained by a pointer extracting process and a pointer process, and RAM controlling unit for controlling a sequence of an operation to write-in/read-out the RAM to serially conduct the pointer process on the received multiplex data, thereby largely decreasing the circuit scale, the power consumption, the number of distributions and the like. A POH terminating operation process is conducted in a POH terminating operation process unit, and an obtained result of the POH terminating operation is stored in a storage area for a corresponding channel of a storage unit, whereby the POH terminating operation process can be conducted without separating a multiplex signal into channels.

  • Patent number: 6151313
Abstract: A SAMA QAM demodulator and packet detector receives SAMA transmissions from multiple transmitters. The received data packets have bits divided into chips in a first spreading sequence in the in phase branches of the transmitters, and a second spreading sequence in the quadrature branches of the transmitters. A demodulator at the hub station has a received signal splitter and an oscillator and phase shifter and multipliers for mixing the incoming signals with the oscillator output and with the phase shifted oscillator output on different branches. Low pass filters are connected to the mixers to remove the carrier signals and to leave chip signals with cosine and sine of phase offsets. The signal from each low pass filter is fed to an in phase matched filter and a quadrature matched filter, four matched filters in total, to produce despread signals from all of the active transmitters with phase relation and start offsets.

  • Patent number: 6151303
Abstract: A fast reservation protocol type ATM switching method and ATM switching equipment which are capable to suppress deterioration in transmission efficiency by reducing a cell discarding rate even in case of transmitting a huge ATM cell burst is provided. A buffer monitoring circuit monitors the number of idle slots in a buffer of an ATM switching equipment. • Patent number: 6147982
Abstract: A system and method for a synchronizing acquisition of a transmitted signal with a local code in a code modulated communication system. The local code is comprised of a replica of the transmitted code. Samples of the transmitted code are correlated with the local code and resulting periodic output samples having indexes are compared with a threshold. Selected indexes of the samples exceeding the threshold are stored and verified for synchronization. Stored correlation indexes which exceed the threshold are combined, and a responder achieves synchronization between transmitted signal and the local code.

  • Patent number: 6148004
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the establishment of dynamic Enterprise System Connection ("ESCON") connections over a Fibre Channel connection allows a port state machine (or port module) to request dynamic ESCON connections from the exchange context of the Fibre Channel frame and to implement dynamic linking of the Fibre Channel exchanges to ESCON ports while also linking and monitoring the status of these connections for all subsequent frames associated on a particular exchange. In a particular embodiment, the method and apparatus provides the ability to establish dynamic connections through an ESCON Director switch based off of the Originator Exchange Identifier ("OX.sub.-- ID") of the FC-2 header and information contained in the FC-4 header of the Fibre Channel frame. Once a connection path has been established for a particular OX.sub.-- ID, that connection is maintained until the exchange is terminated.

  • Patent number: 6130876
Abstract: A method and apparatus for restoring communications in a network. The network includes a plurality of nodes, with each pair of nodes connected by a link, and with each link having information channels and restoration channels. An idle signal is sent on each restoration channel for each link. The failure of a link is detected, with the failed link connecting an originating node with a terminating node. In addition, the failed link includes at least one information channel carrying information signals. An alternate path through the network is determined for the information signals using restoration and idle signals sent over the restoration channels. The information signals are then routed from the originating node to the terminating node in accordance with the alternate path.

  • Patent number: 6130893
Abstract: The present invention enables multiple analog telephones to communicate over a two-wire line via the Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) standard. The analog signal from a standard analog telephone appliance is converted in a terminal adapter associated with the telephone to digital data packets and transmitted over the telephone lines to a central office (CO) using the ADSL standard. Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) frequencies are separated from digital data frequencies by a filter and passed to each terminal adapter on a separate line. On a power-off condition, the terminal adapter connects the telephone to this line. The present invention enables the user to add additional lines without additional wiring into the premises.
