  • Patent number: 10320612
Abstract: A network element (“NE”) is capable of starting an automatic configuration in response to an initiator such as a dongle. In one embodiment, after resetting a counter used for identifying a signal, a process for the automatic configuration forces a first test signal at a test mode output (“TMO”) pin of a console interface to a logic state zero. Upon detecting a break condition at a receiver pin, a second test signal at the TMO pin is forced to a logic state one. When logic state one is detected at the receiver pin of the NE, an automatic configuration mode at the NE is activated.

  • Patent number: 10122615
Abstract: A switch (110R.3) uses a forwarding database (140F) to forward multicast packets. The switch participates in a multicast protocol (e.g. PIM) with other switches, and also uses a snooping database (e.g. for IGMP snooping) to learn about local group members, i.e. members for which the router serves as a local multicast router (e.g. the local members do not participate in the multicast protocol). When the switch learns of a local member of a multicast group, the switch updates the snooping database but may or may not install the snooping information in the forwarding database. Thus, the forwarding database is not necessarily provisioned for locally sourced data packets addressed to the group until receipt of a locally sourced data packet addressed to the group. If no such packets are received, the forwarding database is not provisioned for such packets, and therefore its size is reduced. Other features are also provided.

  • Patent number: 10122614
Abstract: Methods and network devices are disclosed for failure protection in traffic-engineered bit indexed explicit replication networks. In one embodiment, a method includes receiving at a node in a network a message comprising a message bit array, where bit positions in the message bit array correspond to respective links in the network. The method further includes evaluating a bit value at a bit position in the message bit array, where the bit position corresponds to a network link represented in a forwarding table for the node, checking for a failure state of the link represented in the forwarding table, and, responsive to a determination of a failure state of the link, modifying one or more bit values in the message bit array. In one embodiment a network device includes a network interface, a memory configured to store a forwarding table, and a processor configured to carry out the methods.

  • Patent number: 10098158
Abstract: A wireless device, a base station, a random access method and a preamble configuration method are provided. The mobile communication system defines a plurality of preambles, a plurality of low priority preamble sets, and a high priority preamble set. The low priority preamble sets have a strict partial order relationship therebetween. The high priority preamble set and the highest-order low priority preamble set are independent from each other. When requiring random access from a base station, the wireless device randomly selects a preamble from the low priority preamble sets to transmit a random access request message to the base station by using the selected preamble. When the request for random access fails, the wireless device with low priority randomly reselects a preamble from the higher-order low priority preamble set, and the wireless device with high priority randomly reselects a preamble from the high priority preamble set.

  • Patent number: 10044420
Abstract: A method for transmitting payload data from a base station (BS) to a user equipment (UE) via a MIMO channel is provided. Channel estimation is performed first and the channel-estimation result is used for optimizing data transmission. Instead of reporting CQI, RI and PMI to the BS, the UE reports a first channel transfer function characterizing an end-to-end process of obtaining received CSI-RS symbols from originally-sent CSI-RS symbols. Computation burden at the UE is reduced as computation of the CQI, RI and PMI is eliminated. At the BS, an effect caused by the antenna port-to-transceiver unit (AP-to-TXRU) virtualization operation is removed from the first channel transfer function to yield a second channel transfer function. With the second channel transfer function closer to the MIMO channel transfer function than the first one, the “content” of the MIMO channel is better utilized in optimizing data-transmission performance.

Abstract: A network of physically linked elements includes at least a first switch, a second switch, and a third element. The third element is caused to transmit a data unit. A first timestamp and a second timestamp are obtained from the first and second switches, respectively. The first timestamp is associated with receipt of the transmitted data unit by the first switch and the second timestamp associated with receipt of the transmitted data unit by the second switch. The first timestamp and the second timestamp are compared. Based on the comparison, a determination is made that the first switch is physically located between the third element and the second switch.

  • Patent number: 10034302
Abstract: Mechanisms are disclosed for improved transmission of uplink control information by a user equipment (UE) that is link budget limited. In one embodiment, the UE transmits a message to the base station indicating that the UE is link budget limited. In response to the message, the base station sends an uplink grant to the UE, enabling the UE to transmit uplink control information on the physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) instead of on the Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH). In another embodiment, the base station sends an uplink grant to a link-budget-limited UE each time downlink traffic is transmitted to the UE, enabling the UE to send ACK/NACK feedback on the PUSCH instead of the PUCCH. In another embodiment, the UE transmits a scheduling request (SR) to the base station as part of a random access procedure, enabling the SR to be transmitted on the PUSCH instead of the PUCCH.
