Abstract: A method for forming a protective film of a fluorine-containing polymer composition excellent in smoothness and adhesiveness on a photoresist. Moreover, there is provided a means for removing the protective film without impairing the underlying photoresist. A polymer coating composition obtainable by dissolving a fluorine-containing polymer compound in a solvent comprising a fluorinated acetal having a specific structure is applied on a photoresist and dried to form a protective film. A fluorinated acetal having the specific structure is suitable as a solvent for being brought into contact with a fluorine-containing polymer film, peeling the film, and forming a photoresist or a lithographic pattern.

Abstract: A method of making imaged elements such as lithographic printing plates is achieved by imagewise exposing a positive-working imageable element using energy of less than 300 mJ/cm2 to provide exposed and non-exposed regions. The imaged element is developed using an alkaline, silicate-free solution containing a carbonate to remove predominantly only the exposed regions to provide an image. The imageable element comprises a substrate and a radiation absorbing compound, and has an imageable layer on the substrate that comprises a developability-enhancing compound and a poly(vinyl acetal) in which at least 25 mol % of its recurring units comprise pendant nitro-substituted phenolic groups.
Abstract: A mask-forming film has a transparent layer between the imageable layer and the carrier sheet, which transparent layer has a refractive index that is lower (by at least 0.04) than that of the carrier sheet or any immediately adjacent layer between it and the carrier sheet. This lower refractive index layer modifies the path of incident radiation during mask image transfer so as to provide steeper shoulder angles in the relief image solid areas. This mask film is used to form a relief image such as in a flexographic printing plate.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to methods and apparatus useful in the nanopatterning of rotationally symmetric disk materials, like magnetic and optical disks, where a rotatable mask is used to image a radiation-sensitive material. Typically the rotatable mask comprises a cone. The nanopatterning technique makes use of Near-Field photolithography, where the mask used to pattern the disk is in contact or close proximity with the disk. The Near-Field photolithography may make use of an elastomeric phase-shifting mask, or may employ surface plasmon technology, where a rotating cone surface comprises metal nano holes or nanoparticles.

Abstract: A manufacturing method of an ink jet recording head includes steps of forming a liquid flow path mold material of a soluble resin on a substrate on which an energy generating element is formed, the energy generating element being configured to generate energy for use in discharging ink; forming a coating resin layer of a negative photosensitive resin on the substrate on which the mold material is formed; exposing and developing the coating resin layer to form an ink discharge port in the coating resin layer; and dissolving and removing the mold material to form a liquid flow path. During the exposing of the coating resin layer, a total amount of exposure energy per unit area applied to an exposure region other than a region of the coating resin layer positioned above the mold material is greater than that of exposure energy per unit area applied to the region of the coating resin layer positioned above the mold material.
Abstract: A method of processing an on-press developable lithographic printing plate involving the removal of the overcoat after laser imaging and before on-press development is described. The plate comprises a substrate, an on-press ink and/or fountain solution developable photosensitive layer, and an overcoat. The laser imaged plate is mechanically stripped off the overcoat, and then developed with ink and/or fountain solution on a lithographic press. Such a process allows the use of overcoat to achieve faster photospeed and improved durability of the plate without having various issues as related to overcoat such as contamination to the fountain solution, difficulty to remove of certain overcoat, and limited white light stability.
