  • Patent number: 11173672
Abstract: Adhesive bonds are applied by mixing two adhesives with different properties and dispensing them to form bondlines between substrate pairs. The adhesives are then thermally cured and cooled. Varying the mix ratio permits one to vary the properties of the adhesive mixture so formed for use in bonding many different substrate pairs. The process allows potentially infinite variations of adhesive properties between those of the respective starting adhesives, simply by varying the mix ratio. The invention is especially adapted for use in manufacturing settings in which adhesives are to be applied in multiple places, but differing adhesive properties are needed among the various bonding areas.

  • Patent number: 11143959
Abstract: A method for making three dimensional structures using photolithography and an adhesively bondable material is disclosed. A thiol-ene-epoxy (OSTE(?)) material undergoes a first reaction upon partial irradiation in a pattern to become a partially cross-linked polymer network. Non-cross-linked parts are dissolved in a solvent and removed. An initiator is added to activate the cross-linked polymer network so that it becomes adhesive and can then be covalently bound to another object to form an article. The method can be utilized to manufacture an article with a complicated three dimensional shape in an easy way.

  • Patent number: 11130293
Abstract: A method of reversible bonding based on deposition of a coating capable of an indefinite number of reversible bonding cycles as enable by bond exchange reactions is provided. This is accomplished by deposition of crosslinkable aromatic polyester oligomers on a substrate. The coated article is heated to produce a fully thermoset network by condensation reactions. The fully thermoset network has access to a type of bond exchange reaction within the resin that permits the dynamic exchange of ester bonds within the resin. To execute the bonding step a source of heat is applied at a pressure. To debond, there is applied force in tension and/or shear that causes the coating to fail. The reversibility of the process is contingent on the cohesive (rather than adhesive) failure of the coating—that is, the coating must not delaminate from the substrate. Failure must occur in the resin of the reversible coating.

  • Patent number: 11124676
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an optical member which can improve bonding properties between a first member having a light transmitting property and a second member. The method includes a precuring step of forming a photocuring precured resin layer on a surface of the first member or the second member, the photocuring precured resin layer having a thin film on a side to be bonded with the second member or the first member, a bonding step of bonding the first member and the second member via the precured resin layer, and a final curing step of final-curing the precured resin layer to form a light transmitting resin layer. It is thereby possible to reduce the elastic modulus of the precured resin layer, suppress protrusion during bonding, and improve bonding properties.
