  • Patent number: 5123822
Abstract: A screw compressor comprises a pair of screw rotors provided in a casing, a cylinder fixed to the casing and having a first chamber and a second chamber, a first piston fitted in the first chamber, a second piston fitted in the second chamber, a built-in volume ratio adjusting valve operated by the first piston, a volume control slide valve operated by the second piston, a stopper fixed to the casing to limit the backward movement of the built-in volume ratio adjusting valve, and a volume control slide valve. When built-in volume ratio adjustment is unnecessary, the built-in volume ratio adjusting valve is held immovable between the stopper and a spacer fixed to the built-in volume ratio adjusting valve and resting on a fixed surface of the casing. All the forces acting on the immovable built-in volume ratio adjusting valve are sustained by the casing, so that the rest of the components of the screw compressor are not exposed to excessive forces.

  • Patent number: 5120207
Abstract: The invention relates to a rotary screw compressor with liquid-injection means. The axes of the rotors (18, 20) are in a horizontal plane and the inlet channel (26) reaches the compressor from below. According to the invention there are provided means for preventing that liquid leaking out from the working space of the compressor through the inlet port (46) reaches the inlet channel (26). These means include partition walls (34, 36) mounted in an inlet chamber (28) connecting the inlet channel (26) to the inlet port (46).

  • Patent number: 5120208
Abstract: A molecular drag pump for delivering a gas under molecular flow conditions comprises a pair of parallel, helically threaded rotors rotatably mounted in a stationary housing. The rotors have respective helical threads and respective helical grooves, and are held in close mesh with each other. The helical threads are helically inclined in one direction to the axes of the rotors, and have a flank angle such that the helical threads are closely received in the respective helical grooves while keeping the threads out of contact with each other. The rotors are rotated in one direction about their respective axes to move a gas introduced through an inlet port toward an exhaust port axially along the rotors.

  • Patent number: 5117628
Abstract: A mixer arrangement for a bypass type gas turbine engine is disclosed. The mixer is convoluted and generally annular and defines radially and axially extending first and second chutes adapted to receive, respectively, a hot gas stream from the engine core and a cooler gas stream from the fan duct. A pre-mixer is disposed upstream of the mixer and is also convoluted and is aligned in flow communication with the second chutes of the mixer such that the hot gas stream received by the pre-mixer is mixed with the cooler fan air stream received by the second chutes to raise the temperature of the fan air entering an afterburner section of the engine.

  • Patent number: 5112204
Abstract: An oscillatory rotating engine has a pair of rotors each defining a pair of diametrically opposed radially extending lobes, the rotors are mounted for rotation within a cylindrical housing and sealingly engage the walls of the cylindrical housing to define four working chambers. Each rotor is drivingly connected to an output shaft by means of an internal/external gear train, the external gear being mounted for rotation with the rotor and the internal gear being mounted rotatably with respect to the output shaft for orbital motion in mesh with the external gear. Each internal gear has an arm with a longitudinal slot which is engaged by a pivotal block which will act to rotationally restrain the internal gear and impose a periodic variation in velocity on the gear train, this periodic variation in velocity for the two rotors being out of phase so that the working chambers are alternately expanded and reduced in volume.

  • Patent number: 5108275
Abstract: A rotary pump comprises a housing and at least a pair of rotatable, meshing gears positioned within the housing. The meshing gears define teeth which extend helically in the general direction of the axis of each gear rotation. A flow inlet and a flow outlet are positioned in the housing to permit fluid to flow longitudinally along the gears generally in the direction of said axis as the gears rotate relative to each other. By this invention, the helically extending teeth define on at least one of the gears a total angle of wrap from end-to-end of the gear upon which they are carried of essentially 360 divided by twice the number of teeth on the gear, in degrees, multiplied by a number N of 1/2 to 3. This relatively low total angle of wrap provides significant improvements in gear pumps.

  • Patent number: 5104297
Abstract: A rotary compressor has an electric motor and a compression mechanism drivingly connected thereto by a crank shaft including an eccentric portion having flangelike thrust bearing sections and an eccentric pin section on which a rolling piston is mounted for eccentric rotation in a cylinder bore. The eccentric pin section has formed therein at least one axial through-hole for reducing the mass unbalance of the pin section. The crank shaft has formed thereon coaxial sections each concentric to the axis of rotation of the crank shaft and disposed between the eccentric pin section and one of the thrust bearing sections to decrease the axial dimensions thereof and of the eccentric pin section for thereby decreasing the total mass unbalance of the eccentric portion of the crank shaft whereby crank shaft deflection due to mass unbalance is remarkably reduced particularly at a high speed operation.

  • Patent number: 5100308
Abstract: A vacuum vane pump wherein one or more stages are installed in an annular extension of the casing for the pump motor. Each stage has a rotor which is driven by the motor shaft by way of an elastic key, and an annular housing which surrounds and is eccentric relative to the rotor. The housing is pivotable about a pintle which is installed in the end walls of the casing and is parallel to the motor shaft.
