Abstract: The present invention is directed to a cleaner for removing gunpowder residues from the surfaces of firearms and to a method of use of such a cleaner. The cleaner comprises a liquid solution of an oxidizing agent, a liquid detergent surfactant, a scenting agent and an alcohol which is applied to the surfaces of the firearm, preferably with a mild abrasive action. In its preferred form the oxidizing agent is a 3% by weight solution of hydrogen peroxide and is present in the cleaner in an amount of 95% to 99% by weight, the liquid detergent surfactant is sodium dodecyl sulfate in an amount of 0.5% to 1% by weight to the total cleaner solution and the scenting agent is citric acid in an amount of 0% to 1% by weight. The alcohol may be any normal alcohol and is present in an amount of 0.5% to 3% by weight. A coloring agent may also be added.
Abstract: The present invention relates to improved environmentally friendly solvent compositions for materials such as pipe dope, thread lubricants and the like and methods of utilizing such compositions. The nonaqueous solvent compositions are basically comprised of an emulsion of a surface active agent for breaking up and dispersing the materials, and D-limonene and a mixture of other terpenes including dipentene for dissolving the materials and glacial acetic acid.
Abstract: A shampoo formulation containing a polyglyceryl ester as the viscosity builder is disclosed. These polyglyceryl esters have the formula:R.sup.5 OCH.sub.2 --CH(OR.sup.4)--CH.sub.2 --(O--CH.sub.2 CH(OR.sup.3)--CH.sub.2).sub.n --O--CH.sub.2 --CH(OR .sup.2)--CH.sub.2 OR.sup.1wherein n is from 4 to 14 and one or more R groups is an acyl group containing from 8 to 22 carbon atoms and the remaining R groups are hydrogen. Such shampoos may be formulated to meet the criteria for both baby and adult shampoos without the need of using ethylene oxide derivatives. By tailoring the polyglyceryl ester employed, a pearlescent appearance can be created and characteristics such as viscosity and clarity may be affected.

Abstract: A process for inhibiting the re-absorption of migrating dyes in the wash liquor comprises introducing into a wash liquor containing a peroxide-containing detergent, from 0.5 to 150 mg, per liter of wash liquor, of one or more manganese compounds having the formula (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6) or (7) as defined in the specification. Abstract: The present invention is a thickened viscoelastic cleaning composition comprising, in aqueous solution:(a) 0.1 to 5 weight percent of an active cleaning compound; and(b) 0.5 to 20 weight percent a viscoelastic thickening system comprising a hexadecyl dialkyl amine oxide and an organic counterion, and wherein a ratio of amine oxide to counterion is between 4:1 to 1:2, the system possesses a Trouton ratio of at least about 50 at a shear rate of 500-10,000 sec..sup.-1, and an initial viscosity at 21.degree. C. and 5 rpm of at least 20 cP.The present invention is characterized as a means of reducing the characteristic "bleach odor" found in hypochlorite cleaning compositions of the art, particularly those which are volatilized upon dispensing. The composition of the present invention may be formulated to have utility as a hard surface cleaner, or as a drain-opener.

Abstract: A process for the suspension agglomeration of amidoperoxyacids which leads to improved rheological storage stability of aqueous suspensions made from these agglomerated peroxyacids is disclosed. Abstract: The production of paste-form, bleach-containing and substantially water-free detergents or cleaning preparations was to be improved by the direct use of hydrated zeolite. This was essentially done by impregnating the zeolite with 3 times to 10 times the quantity, based on its weight, of an organic polar deactivating agent which is liquid at room temperature and normal pressure and which has a dielectric constant at 20.degree. C. of at least 2.3 C.sup.2.
Abstract: Bleaching compositions comprising an inorganic peroxygen compound and a bicyclic or tricyclic diketone as an activator for the peroxygen compound. The composition preferably comprises about 1 to about 75% of the peroxygen bleaching compound and about 1 to about 75% of the bicyclic or tricyclic diketone bleaching compound activator. The conventional additives such as surfactants, antifoaming agents, fabric softeners, stablizers, inorganic builder salts, buffers, enzymes and the like may be present as indicated. The compositions can be formulated as dry concentrated, aqueous solutions, aqueous solutions containing non-aqueous solvents, etc. The compositions are environmentally safe, effective as bleaching agents from below room temperature to higher temperatures, biodegradable and otherwise highly desirable.

Abstract: An improvement in the process of granulating bleach activator using an organic binder selected from starch and cellulose derivatives polyacrylates, polymaleates and polyvinyl pyrrolidone, the process comprising dry mixing particulate activator and at least a portion of the binder in particulate form and then moistening the mixture with a granulating liquid, comprises using as granulating liquid an aqueous solution of a granulating aid which is a sequestrant optionally combined with a water-soluble inorganic salt. The granules are then dried. The product has improved activity in laundry detergents especially in low temperature wash and cold fill conditions.
