  • Patent number: 9400767
Abstract: Embodiments relate to subgraph-based distributed graph processing. An aspect includes receiving an input graph comprising a plurality of vertices. Another aspect includes partitioning the input graph into a plurality of subgraphs, each subgraph comprising internal vertices and boundary vertices. Another aspect includes assigning one or more respective subgraphs to each of a plurality of workers. Another aspect includes initiating processing of the plurality of subgraphs by performing a series of processing steps comprising: processing the internal vertices and boundary vertices internally within each of the subgraphs; detecting that a change was made to a boundary vertex of a first subgraph during the internal processing; and sending a message from a first worker to which the first subgraph is assigned to a second worker to which a second subgraph is assigned in response to detecting the change that was made to the boundary vertex of the first subgraph.

  • Patent number: 9396574
Abstract: Techniques are proposed for animating a plurality of objects in a computer graphics environment. A crowd choreography system receives a first beat description defining potential motions for the plurality of objects, where the first beat description includes a first motion characteristic. The crowd choreography system selects a first object from the plurality of objects and selects a first value for the first motion characteristic based on the first beat description. The crowd choreography system creates a first motion path for the first object based on the first value and animates the first object based on the first motion path.

  • Patent number: 9384575
Abstract: Systems and methods for automated rule-based labeling of space constrained small format visual analytics are disclosed. A label engine receives visual analytic data and metadata. Using default or specific rules, the label engine analyzes the metadata to determine a number of measures and dimensions of the visual analytic data. The label engine then analyzes the measures, dimensions, and other metadata according to the rules to generate a set of labels, and a set of locations within the visual analytic into which to insert the set of labels. Placement of the labels can be based on the size and format of the visual analytic. In addition, the placement of the labels can be based on a dashboard framework in which the visual analytic is disposed. Any labels that are redundant with the information in the context of the dashboard framework can be omitted from visual analytic.

  • Patent number: 9360888
Abstract: A motion detection and interpretation system comprising a camera plus an infrared transmitter/receiver paired with a single reflective surface that records image data from two vantage points. The camera is connected to a computer and a display screen. The system creates a virtual touch screen for interaction with the display screen. The components of the system can be protected behind a transparent barrier while the virtual touch screen is provided for user interaction thus preventing user interference with, deterring vandalism and theft of, and prolonging the usable life of the equipment. In addition to finite hand movements detected by the virtual touch screen, the system can also simultaneously perform facial recognition and body movement recognition. The system is capable of interpreting multi-touch inputs. All recognitions are defined in the computer to carry out preprogrammed responses.

  • Patent number: 9355464
Abstract: Systems, methods and program storage devices are disclosed, which comprise instructions to cause one or more processing units to analyze input images to a texture atlas and determine how each texture should be modified before being stored in the texture atlas to prevent undesirable drawing artifacts. For example, “tileable” images may be identified on a per-edge basis (e.g., by determining whether each edge pixel is above a certain opacity threshold). The tileable images may then be modified, e.g., by extruding a 1-pixel border identical to the outer row of pixels, before being stored in the texture atlas. “Character”-type sprites may also be identified on a per-edge basis (e.g., by determining whether each edge pixel is below the opacity threshold). The character-type sprites may then by modified by adding a single pixel transparent border around the outer rows of pixels before being stored in the texture atlas.

  • Patent number: 9262860
Abstract: Provided are systems and methods that address the problem of single scattering in homogeneous volumes. In one implementation, an importance sampling technique is provided that avoids a singularity near point light sources. The system and method can be extended to the situation of area lights of arbitrary shapes. The error caused by the non-constant distance to the finite-extent area light is distributed by using random sample points within the area light as points from which lighting is calculated for sampling points along the ray.
