  • Patent number: 5253364
Abstract: A baseball-style cap includes a crown portion and a bill that is rotatable about a generally horizontal rotational axis. The bill projects outwardly from the crown portion, but is repositionable along the outer periphery of the crown portion from a forward eye-shading position to a rearwardly directed neck-shading position. Resilient members fix the bill to the crown portion and provide a force that maintains the bill in a desired position. Fastening members can be used to maintain the bill in traditional eye-shading position.

  • Patent number: 5249347
Abstract: A wire mesh face mask for hockey or other sports is manufactured from a steel having carbon content in the range of AISI grades C-1018 to C-1038, and preferably C-1022. The mask is made by forming a grid of generally horizontal wires overlaid by generally vertical wires, shaping the grid into a mask shape, welding the wires to each other where they intersect, heat treating and quenching the grid to increase hardness, dipping the grid to coat it with an epoxy coating. This combination of materials and processes permits the use of a thinner wire than has previously been possible in face masks.

  • Patent number: 5249308
Abstract: An after shower hat is fabricated from a towel-like material. A rectangular piece of the material is folded in half. The open sides are sewn forming first and second seams, and elastic is sewn around the opening to provide a snug fit. The seams are also provided with a stiffening material, whereby when the hat is worn with the seams at the front and back of the head, the hat stands relatively straight out from the wearer's head. This permits the hair to dry without flattening.

  • Patent number: 5247709
Abstract: A paper hat is formed from stiffly flexible paper-like material such as kraft with a rectangular top panel forming a crown, and four planar side panels and four planar side panels attached to the top panel along fold lines. The side panels have lower arcuate borders forming an oval, head-shaped opening toward the crown. Four arcuate panels flare from the side panels forming a brim with an ovate outer edge. One of the side panels has a transverse fold line parallel and intermediate the crown and the brim allowing the side panel to be folded flat. Additional fold lines along hinges joining the side panels and fold lines perpendicular to the crown allow the hat to be folded into a flat form with all panels in parallel planes.

  • Patent number: 5243709
Abstract: A cup member defines a cavity for covering an infant's ear, and an annular member extends from an end portion of the cup member. The cup member and the annular member each comprise a first sound attenuating layer of foam material which attenuates high frequency sound and a second sound attenuating layer of a material which attenuates low frequency sound. The annular member has a surface for placing the earmuff against the infant's head. A hydrogel adhesive is disposed on the surface for bonding the earmuff to the infant's head. The hydrogel layer preferably extends along the plane defined by the surface of the annular member and into the cavity defined by the cup member for bonding the earmuff to a substantially hairless portion of the infant's head located behind the pinna.

  • Patent number: 5243711
Abstract: An eye shield, particularly directed to hair spraying and styling, provides a transparent lens portion fitted with a resilient peripheral seal forming a wall surrounding the eyes and conforming to facial contours so as to effectively protect the eyes from exposure to hair spray or other airborne substances. The shield is fitted with side arms which press inwardly against the temples to hold it in place without interfering with the styling of the hair. The shield provides convenient eye protection suited to many activities involving airborne sprays, including professional hair styling, and is particulary beneficial in enabling a person doing his or her own hair styling to apply hair spray and to simultaneously view the progress of the styling continuously while having full use of both hands for the spraying and styling without risk of eye damage or irritation from the spray.

  • Patent number: 5233704
Abstract: A scarf or other band-like apparel member which includes a pliable metal wire positioned interiorly of the scarf or the like, together with means to facilitate grasping the metal wire to aid in forming the scarf or other apparel member to the desired configuration or adjustment. When used us a scarf, the band-like apparel member of the invention is adapted to be easily adjusted to the proper neck size of the wearer since the pliable metal wire which forms part of the scarf can be twisted to adjust the size of the scarf to the proper neck size, thereby eliminating the need for additional accessories or the like such as scarf clips, pins or knots. A particular feature of the band-like apparel member of the invention is that once it has been adjusted to a desired optimum position, location, or angle it remains in that adjusted position until purposely changed.
