  • Patent number: 7899475
Abstract: A facility for sending enhanced SMS messages is provided. The facility at a sending SMS subscriber unit encodes the original text of an SMS message to produce an encoded SMS message, and transmits the encoded SMS message for receipt by the intended recipient of the SMS message. The facility at a receiving SMS subscriber unit receives the transmitted encoded SMS message and decodes the encoded SMS message to produce the original text of the SMS message. In some instances, the facility at the receiving SMS subscriber unit may not decode the received encoded SMS message and, thus, provide the received SMS message in its received form. In some instances, the facility at the sending SMS subscriber unit may send the original text of the SMS message and have the receiving SMS subscriber unit decode (translate) the original text into a different form.

  • Patent number: 7844279
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for measuring radio channel quality in a radio communication system. In the method a modulated signal is received over a communication channel. The modulated signal has been modulated by using modulation parameters. A decoder decodes (305) the modulated signal and forms decoded data. The decoder creates (306) a decoder performance indicator (PS) that depends on the decoded data. Then a radio channel quality indicator (RCQI) is created, the radio channel quality indicator being essentially independent of the modulation parameters.

  • Patent number: 7844272
Abstract: Provided is a method for preventing excessive handovers in a mobile communication system. In the method, a periodic measurement report message is transmitted from a mobile terminal to a network. The network determines, on the basis of the measurement report message from the mobile terminal, whether a handover of the mobile terminal needs to be performed. Thereafter, the network transmits a Handover_Command message to the mobile terminal if the handover of the mobile terminal needs to be performed. Upon receipt of the Handover_Command message, the mobile terminal performs a handover to a target handover cell according to the Handover_Command message, transmits a Handover_Complete message to the network, and transmits a first measurement report message including neighboring cell information set to Null from the mobile terminal to the network after the transmission of the Handover_Complete message.

  • Patent number: 7843890
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for locating synchronization channels (SCH) in a downlink which are received by a user equipment (UE), such that the downlink synchronization channels are transparent to shared channel users (or UE) which can be used, e.g., in evolving and future systems such as EUTRAN, 4G, 3GPP2, etc. The synchronization channels are arranged so that they are transparent to the UE in a normal active operation state. For that, the resources given to the SCH are chosen to be one or more allocatable resources (resource units) in a sub-frame or in a plurality of sub-frames. In an allocation table, these resources may not be allocated to the UE and in the active state the UE sees that and discards these resources just as it discards any other resource that is not allocated to it.

  • Patent number: 7839834
Abstract: A forward link (FL) RLP and a reverse link (RL) RLP that are different in design are used for data transmission on the forward and reverse links, respectively. The asymmetric RLP designs may be quantified by, e.g., different feedback mechanisms and/or different data transmission mechanisms used for these RLPs. The FL RLP may utilize a negative acknowledgment (NAK)-based feedback mechanism whereas the RL RLP may utilize an acknowledgment (ACK)-based feedback mechanism. The NAK-based FL RLP may transmit each RLP frame once in sequential order and retransmit RLP frames out of sequence when not received correctly. The ACK-based RL RLP may transmit RLP frames in sequential order, one frame at a time until the frame is received correctly or the maximum number of transmissions have been attempted. Timers with adaptive values computed based on actual traffic conditions may be used to facilitate data transmission by the NAK-based FL RLP.

  • Patent number: 7826403
Abstract: When no messages exist which must be notified to a mobile transmitting/receiving apparatus (102), a carrier signal of non-modulation is outputted in an area of control information of transport data having a frame structure. As a specific example, an FSK modulator (16) causes a carrier signal of non-modulation to be outputted by a transmitting circuit (17) from a line control apparatus (101) in correspondence with the area for control information in which non-modulation data is set by a frame data processing unit (15), while causing a modulated wave signal as four-level FSK modulated to be outputted in the areas other than the non-modulation data area. When non-modulation data is set in the area for control information, function channel identification information in the same frame is set as non-modulation identification data, thereby allowing any unstable operation in the mobile transmitting/receiving apparatus (102) on the receiving side to be avoided.
