  • Patent number: 4856375
Abstract: A tractor transmission includes a pair of dual power clutches that connects an engine to an input shaft through a gearset that selectively makes a direct connection or overdrives the input shaft in accordance with the stat of the clutches. Two nonsynchronized couplers connect the input shaft in accordance with the movement of the gear shift lever by the vehicle operator to high speed and low speed forward gear ratios and to a reverse drive mechanism. Hydraulically actuated disk clutches located in the driveline between the couplers and the drive wheels are selectively operated to transmit power through a multiple speed ratio gearset. A friction clutch or torque converter transmits power from the power source to the input of the dual power clutches. A hydraulically-actuated brake holds a gear and countershaft, located between the couplers and the dual power clutches. A clutch pedal is depressed by the operator.

  • Patent number: 4854193
Abstract: A key interlock system for an automatic floor mounted transmission shifter adapted to be used with an ignition key located in the steering column and adapted to translate a key slide actuator upon rotation of the key through a pinion acting on a gear rack on the slide actuator includes a cable assembly with a conduit fixed at one end adjacent the ignition key and at the other end adjacent the automatic floor mounted transmission shifter. A strand is connected at one end to a spring loaded pawl adjacent the actuator and at the opposite end to a shifter cam plate adjacent the shifter. In the key out position, the pawl engages the key actuator placing the strand in tension so that the shifter is prevented from movement from a park position. When the key is advanced to the start, run or off position, the pawl engages a groove in the key actuator allowing the shifter cam plate to be moved from park position to the desired drive gear position.

  • Patent number: 4854194
Abstract: A starting speed stage selector for starting a vehicle at all times from an optimum speed stage in response to load conditions of the vehicle. The selector is employed in an automatic transmission control system in which a speed of a transmission having preset speed stages is shifted up or down sequentially on a step-by-step basis in response to the load conditions. The speed stage selector selects one of the present speed stages optimum for starting the vehicle in response to the vehicle load conditions and a road surface gradient.

  • Patent number: 4854190
Abstract: The invention comprises an all gear mechanism for a continuously variable transmission that provides a wide range of output speeds and torques. The Basic element of the transmission is a floating gear assembly which relates output speed to input speed. The floating gear assembly can either comprise a floating gearbox or a floating gear arrangement incorporated into a differential assembly with idler gears. Various controlling mechanisms are shown and described which include first and second mechanical feedback loops. With these speed control systems, the output gear ratio can be made to change either linearly to geometrically to produce a desired output speed and torque.

  • Patent number: 4854192
Abstract: A centrifugally controlled two-speed accessory drive for operation of one or more automotive vehicle accessories to provide a two-stage operation depending on the engine speed, the drive including a gear box secured to the face of the accessory and having an input shaft driven by a pulley and belt from the engine, an output shaft driving the accessory, and a planetary gear set connecting the shafts. The gear set includes a sun gear connected to the output shaft, a ring gear rotatably mounted in the gear box and a planet carrier rotatable with the input shaft and mounting a plurality of planetary gears between the sun gear and ring gear. A cone clutch engages the ring gear to ground it through a Belleville spring, piston and fulcrum, and centrifugal weights act to unground the ring gear; a one-way clutch between the shafts allows the output shaft to overrun the input shaft when the ring gear is grounded and rotate the output shaft with the input shaft as a unit when the ring gear is ungrounded.

  • Patent number: 4850237
Abstract: A tooth profile in a meshing mechanism is arranged in such a way that the tooth profile of a deflectable tooth row is formed by a circular-arc-shaped addendum and lines tangential to the circular arc, while the tooth profile of two second tooth rows meshing with the tooth row with that tooth profile, one of the second tooth rows being fixed and the other being moveable, are based on an envelope of the locus of movement of the circular-arc-shaped addendum, or a line approximated thereto by circular arcs and straight lines. In the meshing mechanism having this tooth profile, the deflectable tooth row and the two tooth rows mesh with each other over a wide region and a low level of angular backlash can be obtained thereby. For this reason, the contact pressure on the working surfaces of the teeth can be alleviated, and the lifetime of the teeth can be prolonged.

  • Patent number: 4848186
Abstract: A hydrostatic transmission includes a mechanically driven hydraulic pump connected in hydraulic circuit with first and second hydraulic motors. The hydrostatic outputs of the first and second motors are respectively applied to the ring and sun gears of a planetary gear set whose carrier constitutes the transmission hydrostatic output. Acceleration under low speed, high torque conditions is achieved by varying the displacements of the pump and second motor, while the first motor is removed from the hydraulic circuit and the ring gear is braked. At an appropriate shift point, the first motor is inserted into the hydraulic circuit and the ring gear is released, such that further acceleration is achieved by varying the displacements of the pump and both motors in coordination.

Abstract: A throttle follower controller for establishing a release throttle position upon the release of the throttle by the vehicle operator which is maintained at a specified value for a predetermined time if the vehicle transmission is experiencing an upshift or if an upshift will occur upon the release of the throttle to provide for a smooth upshift. Upon completion of the upshift or if no upshift will occur upon release of the throttle, a controlled transition of the throttle angle to a predetermined lower coastdown value is established to prevent drive-on while preventing a sudden harsh drive line jerk upon release of the vehicle throttle.

  • Patent number: 4846019
Abstract: Normally a first target value is given and a reduction ratio of the continuously variable transmission is adjusted in such a direction as to bring the actual value into agreement with the first target value. However, when a predetermined heavy load condition on an engine is detected, a second target value is immediately given and the reduction ratio of the continuously variable transmission is adjusted in such a direction as to bring the actual value into agreement with the second target value. Subsequently, when a deviation of the actual value from the second target value becomes less than a predetermined value, a third target value is given and the reduction ratio of the continuously variable transmission is adjusted in such a direction as to bring the actual value into agreement with the third target value.

  • Patent number: 4846009
Abstract: A countershaft transmission includes an input shaft, a countershaft, an output shaft, first and second disc type directional clutches associated with the input shaft, and disc type speed clutches associated with the countershaft and output shaft to selectively connect a plurality of constantly meshing gears in preselected patterns to provide three forward speeds and three reverse speeds for a work vehicle such as a track-type tractor. The gears and clutches are functionally arranged in a forward and reverse mechanism serially connected to a three-speed mechanism and a speed reduction ratio change can be made to the speed mechanism without effecting the speed reduction ratio of the forward and reverse mechanism. Reverse speeds greater than 20% faster than the corresponding forward speeds are possible using a three-gear train in the forward and reverse mechanism. The gears, and the directional and speed clutches are arranged to provide a radially and longitudinally compact transmission.
