Abstract: Processes and systems for offering and granting digital rights that govern distribution and usage of content, services and resources. The processes and systems provide a basis for flexible business models and negotiation transactions between content providers and users. The concept of meta-rights, which permit digital rights to be derived, permits upstream parties in a content distribution chain to dictate rights granted and received by downstream parties. Therefore, each transaction can be considered as a two party transaction between a rights supplier and a rights consumer.

Abstract: A method and system for managing use of items having usage rights associated therewith including a point of capture system adapted to generate content of a future event when the event occurs, a content distributor adapted to generate a rights label having usage rights associated with content of the future event before the content is created, the rights label having a distribution key for encrypting the content as the content is generated, the distribution key being encrypted with a public key. The system also includes a license server adapted to generate a license associate with the content from the rights label before the content is generated, the license including the distribution key encrypted with the public key, and a content distributor adapted to distribute the license before the content is generated.

Abstract: A software installation system and method using a first mobile electronic device and a second mobile electronic device records an installation record of a software application of the first mobile electronic device and generates an installation list of the software application. The system and method further transmits the installation list to a server, and accesses the installation list by a second mobile electronic device and sends a request to the server for installing the software application. Furthermore, the system and method transmits the installation file to the second mobile electronic device, in response to the determination that the software application is available at no cost, and installs the software application in the second mobile electronic device according to the installation file and the installation record.

A method of registering wireless video modules may include, for example, transmitting a first registration message from a first wireless video communication module to a second wireless video communication module, wherein the first registration message includes first information identifying the first module to the second wireless video communication module; receiving at the first module a second registration message from the second wireless video communication module, wherein the second registration message includes second information identifying the second module to the first wireless video communication module; and based on the first and second registration messages, registering the first video communication module at the second wireless video communication module and the second video communication module at the first wireless video communication module.

Abstract: The present invention provides for a method and apparatus for distributing digital information, such as software applications, to application users. By providing the digital information on unused memory space of a computer system, and providing a process for authorizing access to the information, the information can be efficiently and cost effectively transferred to users. Traditional inventory and distribution channel difficulties are avoided.

Abstract: The invention is a system and method of managing equipment. The system incorporates a tagging device to attach identification tags to each piece of equipment. A scanning device is used to read the identification tags and relay this information to an equipment server. An input device is used to input information to the equipment server. The equipment server runs the equipment management program. The system flags a potential asset assigned to an asset creating individual. Equipment is designated an asset after use in an asset creating event.

Abstract: In order to prevent leakage of confidential data, a meeting system includes a MFP and a projector. The MFP includes a data obtaining portion to obtain data, a participant information obtaining portion to obtain user identification information as participant information, an access permission determination portion and an output permission determination portion to determine whether or not a user identified by the participant information can access the obtained data, to determine that the obtained data can be output if the determination result shows that all the meeting participants can access the obtained data, and to determine that the obtained data cannot be output if any one of the meeting participants cannot access the obtained data, and an output portion to output data on condition that it is determined by the output permission determination portion that data can be output. The display device displays an image based on the data output from the data processing apparatus.

Abstract: Tokens containing a unique identification code that allow admission or access to entertainment or personal services are sold and distributed. A seller-distributor node on a global computer network affects transactions that exchange tokens for payment. The tokens represent remittance for services provided by a plurality of service providers. For each token obtained through the seller-distributor node, the system allows a variable rate of redemption at the plurality of service providers upon use by the token (ticket) holder. The token (ticket) holder/user selects which one of the plurality of service providers to request remittance for services at the respective service provider's rates. Different rates exist for a same or equivalent service across at least some of the service providers. Rendering of the token enables remittance for service by the ticket holder/user selected service provider at the selected service provider rate.

Abstract: A powerfully simple digital media player and methods for use therewith are disclosed. In one embodiment, a digital media player with a simplified user interface is disclosed that, like an FM radio, allows a user to easily select a category of digital media for playback. In another embodiment, to make the experience more FM-radio-like for a user, instead of charging the user for the digital audio files, digital media files can be distributed for free (or at a reduced charge) by playing advertisements before, during, or after the playback of a digital audio file. In yet another embodiment, an exemplary network infrastructure is provided. In another embodiment, a generic streaming content file interface is presented. Other embodiments are disclosed, and any of these embodiments can be used alone or in combination with one another.

Abstract: A content receiver is compatible with a plurality of rights management and protection methods (RMP) devised for each content distribution system. Only the format which specifies the specification of the RMP formed of information such as content billing, security, and copyright protection, is standardized. Each content provider inputs encrypted content and rights processing information to content in a form conforming to the standardized specification. For content users, by merely being provided with functions corresponding to each RMP method in advance, even if the content is based on any RMP method, the content can be decrypted and used in the same content receiver.

Abstract: An on-line value bearing item (VBI) printing system that includes one or more cryptographic modules and a central database is disclosed. The cryptographic modules are capable of implementing the USPS Information Based Indicia Program Postal Security Device Performance Criteria and other required VBI standards. The modules encipher the information stored in the central database for all of the on-line VBI system customers and are capable of preventing access to the database by unauthorized users. Additionally, the cryptographic module is capable of preventing unauthorized and undetected modification, including the unauthorized modification, substitution, insertion, and deletion of VBI related data and cryptographically critical security parameters.

Abstract: Systems and methods for the dynamic processing of royalties are disclosed. Sales records are processed on a transaction basis rather than in batch mode. This process also allows correction of information retroactively, rather than delaying the entire processing of the information. One embodiment includes a system comprising a message broker in communication with a plurality of clients and services, a state machine, a processor and a time manager. The message broker interacts with the processor to execute a common service based on events produced by the state machine. Another embodiment includes a method comprising providing a rate matrix, receiving a sales record from a database and calculating a royalty payment using the sales record and the rate matrix.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods and systems to enable fast, efficient, and scalable means for fingerprinting textual information using word runs. The present system receives textual information and provides algorithms to convert the information into representative fingerprints. In one embodiment, the fingerprints are recorded in a repository to maintain a database of an organization's secure data. In another embodiment, textual information entered by a user is verified against the repository of fingerprints to prevent unauthorized disclosure of secure data. This invention provides approaches to allow derivative works (e.g., different ordering of words, substitution of words with synonyms, etc.) of the original information to be detected at the sentence level or even at the paragraph level. This invention also provides means for enhancing storage and resource efficiencies by providing approaches to optimize the number of fingerprints generated for the textual information.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for securely displaying and communicating trusted and untrusted internet content via a web browser is described. In a preferred embodiment, the invention is an electronic marketplace system in which auction-related content is displayed in one window of a customer's web browser while item-related content is displayed in a second window of the customer's web browser, such that the auction-related content and the item-related content are substantially prevented from substantially interacting. The invention further provides a method and apparatus for communicating predetermined information between multiple documents opened in multiple web browser windows, where the documents are served from multiple domains.

Abstract: A system and method for managing use of items having usage rights associated therewith. The system includes an activation device adapted to issue a software package having a public and private key pair, the public key being associated with a user, a license device adapted to issue a license, a usage device adapted to receive the software package, receive the license and allow the user to access the item in accordance with the license, and a subscription managing device adapted to maintain a subscription list including the public key associated with the user. License's is issued by the license device upon verifying presence of the public key in the subscription list corresponding to requested content.

Abstract: A system for managing use of digital content within a trusted community. An access list defines the trusted community. License requests for use of content made from outside the trusted community are handled in accordance with a license request policy process.

Abstract: A payment authentication service authenticates the identity of a payer during online transactions. The authentication service allows a card issuer to verify a cardholder's identity using a variety of authentication methods, such as the use of passwords. Also, the only system participant requiring a certificate is the issuing financial institution. Authenticating the identity of a cardholder during an online transaction involves querying an access control server to determine if a cardholder is enrolled in the payment authentication service, requesting a password from the cardholder, verifying the password, and notifying a merchant whether the cardholder's authenticity has been verified. A chip card and the authentication service independently generate cryptograms to match in order for the service to verify that the correct chip card is being used by the cardholder.
